The power of God over the enemy
First Step: Know your enemy
the enemy is not...• your employer
• your spouse
• your mother in law
• any other person
• our struggle is not against flesh and blood...Eph6v12
the enemy is Satan and the good news is .....
• God has absolute power over him
• Jesus defeated him Colossians 2 v 15
• he is not as powerful or as clever as he would like you to think he is
the enemy ...• is a created being and is subject to his creator
• had a beginning and has an end
• still has power; never to be under-estimated
• he runs a big organisation
• his defeat was public, and all his demons saw it
why is satan still around?
• a mystery
• God allows it
• God wants us to choose righteousness
• the man on a desert island
• we have to accept that satan is still around, that he has power, and we need to set our course accordingly
• read the book of Job
Satan is still around because there is a huge demand for what he offers
• every time we say an unkind word or harbour an unforgiving thought, we are retaining satan’s services
• “stay around a little longer; you are supplying something that I like to use”
• but: God has power over satan and He has given us power over him too - try saying ‘NO’
what power do we have?
• delegated power – like the centurion
• the power to resist 1 Cor 10 v 13
• the power to command
• the fish dream
• resisting is vital, it provides a platform for other avenues of authority
• Palm Sunday – Jesus defeated the enemy because He first resisted him
• Goliath had a brother
the problem of passivity
• at its worst “I can’t stir myself to resist”
• just letting the enemy walk all over you
• “This day we FIGHT”
