The Providence spirit of compassionatecare radiated throughout every corner ofthe Valley in 2010, as our three medicalcenters went about the business of heal-ing and changing lives through excel-lence in healthcare each and every day.As the dedicated people at ProvidenceHoly Cross, Saint Joseph and TarzanaMedical Centers embrace patients andfamilies with care, and reach out to helpthe poor and vulnerable in our commu-nities, I view the Foundation as a strongpillar of support that transforms theMission of Providence into reality in somany ways each year.

Despite the challenges evident in our eco-nomic climate, I speak on behalf of every-one at Providence in applauding theFoundation’s resourceful philanthropicinitiatives and dedication that raised morethan $14 million for our Valley hospitalministries in 2010. e true meaning ofthis generosity is almost unimaginable inthe abstract, yet the tangible impacts areseen clearly in the wonders of medicaltechnology, new services and programs, and capital projects that are born from

the seeds of this giving in pursuit of theProvidence Mission.

From the Disney Family Cancer Centerat Providence Saint Joseph to the newneonatal intensive care unit beds at Prov-idence Tarzana to the laser tattoo removalmachine at Providence Holy Cross, thespirit that drives our Foundation to do itsgood work exemplifies our tradition ofexcellence established by the Sisters ofProvidence 153 years ago.

Our work at the Valley ministries ofProvidence Southern California relies onthe Foundation’s continuing commitmentto giving and unwavering belief in ourMission, just as our patients and thosewho are not as fortunate in our commu-nities rely on the People of Providence todeliver the gift of high quality care. esuccesses achieved by our Foundation in2010 have set the stage for a future of ex-panded service to all those in our care.We are grateful for the opportunity tobring our healing Ministry to more whoneed us throughout our community formany years to come.

Looking back on 2010, I’m heartened bywhat we as a community accomplishedduring such challenging economic times.

We opened our magnificent Roy and Pa-tricia Disney Family Cancer Center atProvidence Saint Joseph Medical Center. We prepared to open the beautiful expan-sion at Providence Holy Cross MedicalCenter and we’ve built an incredible com-munity support base at Providence TarzanaMedical Center.

Our success was the result of two things –the extraordinary health care provided byProvidence medical centers and our verygenerous donors who have contributedfunding to ensure we can expand to servethe growing population and to equip ourhospitals with the latest technology. Prov-idence has raised its profile tremen-

dously in the San Fernando Valley. We’ve enhanced our services, sharpenedour focus, expanded our outreach to thepoor and vulnerable and found new waysto improve upon excellence. Our medicalcenters offer the same level of quality pa-tients find at the prestigious academicmedical centers, but with our specialbrand of compassionate care.

is year’s Annual Report features onecase from each of our three Valley ServiceArea Medical Centers. e stories of theseextraordinary patients and our remarkablemedical staff are truly inspirational.

We look forward to another year of cele-brations thanks to all who have con-tributed through our Foundations. Wethank our donors and all who have sup-ported our work in the Valley.

As a longtime member of the ProvidenceHoly Cross Board of Governors andChair of the Providence Health & Serv-ices Foundation Board of Directors, I un-derstand all too well the important rolethat each Foundation donor plays. Onbehalf of our three Valley Service AreaFoundations, I thank you for your support.

Now, more than ever, philanthropy is keyto maintaining the success and quality ofour medical centers. During these diffi-cult economic times, all of us have clearlyfelt the impact. Our fundraising goals forthe much needed expansion at HolyCross, e Hycy and Howard Hill Neu-roscience Institute at Saint Joseph’s andthe campaign to expand Pediatric services

at Tarzana have been challenging toreach. Happily, we are getting there withyour generous support. Over the pastdecade, the Foundations have raised over$114 million for our medical centers. edetermination of our donors to keep theProvidence Medical Centers as leaders of quality care in our communities is clearly evident.

We have achieved such an outstandingresult in large part due to you. Ourdonors give with a vision for the future. We thank you for all that you do for usand hope that this recognition helps con-vey to you how very much we appreciateyou, and all you continue to do for ourcommunity.

It was Christmas when all four of theaging elevators at Providence Holy CrossMedical Center shut down – just beforedinner time. e scene that unfolded isthis ministry’s legacy. Undaunted, foodservices personnel lined the stairs fromthe basement kitchen to the first, secondand third floors, passing trays and onlystopping to rest after every patient hadbeen served.

2010 could have been written off as a yearof growing pains as upgrades were madeand construction neared completion onthe hospital’s new four-story SouthWing. But the problem elevators, the clo-sure of the main lobby and the diningroom and the temporary relocation ofseveral services didn’t dampen spirits.Rather, these inconveniences spurred en-thusiastic efforts to find solutions. Provi-dence Holy Cross physicians, nurses, staffand volunteers worked as a team as theyalways have, making sure patients andtheir families were treated with excellenceand compassion, the Providence trademark.

Providence Holy Cross often has beencalled “the little hospital that could” forits low profile but extraordinary quality of

medicine, nursing and overall care. ANurse Magnet hospital, Holy Crossstands for excellence across-the-boardand is continuously ranked among the tophospitals in the nation.

In 2010, Providence Holy Cross was rec-ognized for excellence in maternity careand treatment of stroke and heart failure. It was honored for promoting breast-feeding classes for both patients and em-ployees. It won Providence Health &Services’ President’s Award for a nurse-driven effort to improve care at bedside. And the Emergency Department wasnamed the best among a group of ERsacross the nation.

e final months of 2010 were filled withanticipation as we looked forward toopening our beautiful four-story expan-sion, a project that sparked wide commu-nity and employee support through ourFoundation. e 138-bed South Wingwill bring much-needed beds to alleviatefrequent overcrowding, this community’sfirst neonatal ICU and a new chapel. egoal as we become one of the area’s largesthospitals is to expand upon the uniquecharacter that is Providence Holy Cross.

Since the Sisters of Providence venturedto Southern California nearly 70 yearsago to build Providence Saint JosephMedical Center, this ministry has neverseen such advances as in 2010.

is was the year we opened our state-of-the-art Roy and Patricia Disney FamilyCancer Center, the first fully comprehen-sive cancer program in the San FernandoValley. e dream of the visionaries whodeveloped this center was to bring to-gether experts from across the care spec-trum to meet all the needs of each patient. Our success is measured by the gratitudeof patients so thankful for our dedicationto treating mind, body and spirit.

e year also was marked by the ground-breaking for our new Hycy and HowardHill Neuroscience Institute, a programbuilt on our excellence and compassion intreating stroke patients and others withneurological illnesses and injuries. Ourstroke and inpatient rehabilitation pro-grams, as well as our stellar group of physi-cians, nurses, therapists and technicians, have laid the foundation for this next step.

ese projects would not have happenedwithout the support of our donors whohave worked with the Providence Foun-dation to help fund cutting-edge equip-ment and facilities to enhance theProvidence tradition of compassionatecare. e Disney Family Cancer Centerwas seeded by a generous donation fromthese friends of Providence as well asfrom numerous studios in the area – thesame businesses that helped build ouroriginal hospital. Hycy and Howard Hillalso have provided tremendous support tothe hospital and we look forward to open-ing the Institute that bears their name.

Among so many members of the commu-nity who have contributed to our growthis the Cusumano family, pillars of Bur-bank’s business community, who donated$1 million to help fund the cutting-edgeequipment for the Neuroscience Institute. And equally touching in their generosityhave been our physicians, employees, vol-unteers, Guild members and our formerpatients and their family members whoreached out to us to thank ProvidenceSaint Joseph for the care they received.

It was a year that provided awe-inspiringmoments as Providence Tarzana MedicalCenter fully embraced our Mission of out-reach to the poor and vulnerable.

In 2010, we proudly completed the transi-tion of our hospital to a faith-based ministryin a unique style, recognizing the Catholicheritage of the Providence organization byhanging hundreds of crucifixes about, butalso honoring our Jewish culture with akosher mezuzah on every doorway. is wasa proud first for Providence, and for Catholichealth care. We now reach out to our patientsnot only with excellent care, but with an un-derstanding that their faith is important in healing.

Providence Tarzana also hosted the firstMother Joseph Fund event where our Valleyministries united to grant funds to very wor-thy charities in the community – small or-ganizations that help the homeless, AIDSpatients, children living in poverty and othersin need. Additionally, hand-in-hand withour community partners, we hosted our firstfree health fair that drew hundreds of people, many who had been hurt by the poor econ-omy and in need of basic health checks.

Providence Tarzana always has celebratedexcellence, a tradition shared by physicians, nurses, staff, volunteers and now our Foun-dation. We continue making advances - up-dating our diagnostics and imagingequipment; adding a new electrophysiologylab, providing complex procedures not avail-

able at other Valley hospitals and opening anew outpatient rehabilitation center thatprovides quality rehab programs for all ages.

As the only Providence ministry in the SanFernando Valley with pediatric care, ourfund-raising activities for 2010 were focusedon upgrading our pediatric department, in-cluding a planned expansion and relocationof our pediatric ICU. We extend our thanksto the Phyllis and Angelo R. Mozilo FamilyFoundation for its very generous $2 milliondonation to our PICU. In our NICU, donorsfunded four new Giraffe Beds and a coolingblanket to reduce the possibility of seriousbrain damage in critically ill infants. And inour first ever employee campaign, the Foun-dation raised $149,000.

Providence Tarzana was named the best hos-pital in the state for vascular care in 2010,spotlighting our program, which resulted inincreased demand and underscored the needto add a new special procedures lab. Com-munity contributions to this project will helpenhance not only the care we provide but thenumber of patients we can treat.

With the help of our Foundation, we antic-ipate growth in 2011, expanding our physi-cian base and studying ways to further meetthe healthcare needs of the West Valley. Mypledge is to continue our tradition of qualitycare, to strive to reach new heights and to fur-ther partner with the community in its effortsto help us build upon our tradition of care.

Matt SMolinSki By the time I came back Annabelle was

born, the curtains were drawn and they

were working on her. My wife was alone

with an oxygen mask on. I thought, Jeez,

I left and everything was fine, and I come

back and it’s a disaster.

kriStina Stolba, rn

I clearly remember this case. We had

an uneventful labor. When it was time

for delivery, I called Dr. Kossari. About

a minute prior to birth I lost the baby’s

heartbeat, which was not necessarily

unusual because of the position of the

mother.

pRoVidenCe Holy cross

There was not much commotion really,

just firm, direct talking–“OK I need this.”

“Get that.” Things just happened. It was

not chaotic. They were serious and really

working hard to save her life.

ann Smolinski, with her husband Matt by her side, was in labor

with their second child. the pregnancy had been completely

normal, and now, in the early hours of the morning, labor was

also progressing normally. By all appearances there was time

for Matt to run out to the parking lot and meet his brother

so he could take their son home. But when he returned 10

minutes later, things had gone horribly wrong.

ShahraM koSSari, MD obstetrics-Gynecology

The whole experience was incredible. We

were not expecting any complications. It

was a normal labor, a normal delivery. We

delivered the baby without any difficulty at

all. But as I held the baby, she had no

muscle tone. The baby just draped around

my arm. There was no movement, no

breathing, and soon, we found out there

was no heartbeat. Which came as a horrific

surprise. We weren’t expecting this at all.

Dee relucio, rn When the baby came out, she was pale,

with no spontaneous respiration, no heart

rate, and so we started resuscitating. I

was doing the chest compressions and the

respiratory therapist was doing the

ventilation. Every 30 seconds I checked

the heart rate, but I didn’t hear anything, so

I continued the resuscitation. Nobody lost

their cool, nobody panicked. Everyone

knew their role. It was very systematic.

kriStina At first we thought it was transitional.

However, after a couple of minutes it was

clear that the baby was down more than

transitionally. It was very intense. At that

point we called for backup.

Dr. koSSari The crash team came in. Once I stabilized

the mother, I went to the baby and

confirmed there was no heartbeat. We

were resuscitating the baby, doing CPR

and preparing to intubate. We immediately

called the neonatologist.

kriStina The neonatologist was giving orders over

the phone, on his way. I was trying to calm

the mother down. The mother and family

were in shock.

Matt I probably hadn’t missed the birth by more

than a minute or so. I could see that they

were just really busy. One of the doctors

asked for another doctor to come down

there right now. Like RIGHT NOW.

arvy Quizo, rn A nurse from Labor and Delivery came to

Special Care Nursery and asked for my

help. On the way my mind was racing. I

was praying for the baby, praying that we

could help the baby. I was going over in my

mind what I needed to do, preparing myself

for any emergency.

Dr koSSari We weren’t able to get a line into the baby.

10 minutes passed, 15 minutes passed,

we kept trying and trying.

Dee Getting a peripheral IV line in with no blood

volume is very hard. Arvy Quizo is a great

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse. When

she arrived she was on an adrenaline

rush—she got the line in on the first try.

So I had no doubts. Still, when there’s no

volume circulating, most of the time the

veins are collapsed, so you have a

problem. But I guess somebody up there

was watching over us that night because

everything fell into place and nobody

panicked.

I was trying to calm the

mother down. The mother

and family were in shock.

The mom was bleeding,

There was no movement, no

breathing, and soon, we found out,

no heartbeat. Which came as a

horrific surprise, because we

weren’t expecting this at all.

On the way my mind was racing. I

was praying for the baby, praying

that we could help the baby.

annaBelle FoR 45 MinuteS. SHe Still Had no HeaRtBeat.

Matt I thought that maybe at any moment they

would say OK that’s it--nothing, it’s been

45 minutes, nothing’s happened now, let’s

call it. I could just feel it in the air. But it

seemed like they just kept trying and trying

and didn’t want to give up. It was a team

effort. It went really smoothly. There was

not much commotion really, just firm,

direct talking--OK I need this, get that.

Things just happened. It was not chaotic.

They were serious and really working hard

to save her life.

Dee Once we gave blood you could see the

baby pink up from head to toe. I had the

stethoscope and was doing the chest

compressions. Everyone saw my eyes get

as big as saucers. I said, Oh my God,

there’s a heart beat!

It was like she woke up from a bad dream.

Like nothing happened, a normal newborn.

Her muscle tone was great, color was

great, and the heart rate was strong. She

was crying and kicking and screaming.

Usually we expect a slow response after a

prolonged resuscitation, but not this

baby— hey, I’m born all over again! It was

the best feeling ever.

kriStina I think we were so determined not to give

up on this baby. I had been in Labor and

Delivery for less than a year at the time.

This was one of my first emergencies, so

it was quite a scary experience.

Dee The sister-in-law kept thanking us for not

giving up on her niece. It’s a feeling you

cannot describe. That you did something

to save somebody’s life, by just doing your

job. It’s amazing.

kriStina I remember the neonatologist clearly stating

to the parents that the reason this baby

was alive was because of the nurses who

did not give up. I was not only proud to be

at Holy Cross, but proud to work with all

the people in the room that night.

arvy We hugged and patted each other on the

back. We were really happy when the baby

turned around. You cannot believe how

relieved we were. The next day at work

one of the nurses hugged me again and

told me we did great.

kriStina The team effort was unbelievable. It never

even came up that we were going to call it.

It was understood and unspoken that we

keep going until somebody came into that

room and said we should quit. I think it’s

not only because we’re nurses, but also

because we want to treat our patients the

way we would want our family treated. If

that were my child, I wouldn’t want the

nurses to give up.

Dr koSSari Without the nursing skill sets and the

passion that they bring to the table, I

wouldn’t be able to do what I do. Every

single case that goes well in the OR, in the

labor room, in the ICU, anywhere, is

because of all the great people who work

here. We really have the cream of the crop.

My confidence was reaffirmed through this

experience. We save lives, just like in this

case, everyday. This is not an exception to

the rule. This is something that happens

everyday at Holy Cross.

Dee Regardless of who you are or what you

can afford to pay, we treat you the same,

we treat you like a human being. I’m

proud to say we live our core values. Even

the doctors themselves say, why do you

think I keep bring my patients here?

Because of the nurses. Because the nurses

use their judgment and knowledge and

skill, I can sleep at night knowing that my

patients are being well cared-for.

Dr koSSari We reviewed the case and couldn’t find

anything that we could pinpoint as to why

this happened. It was just a complication

that arose with the intrapartum issues that

can go wrong. I tell my patients that you

can deliver anywhere, and for ages we

delivered in the barn. Most of the time

everything goes well, because usually you

have healthy patients and healthy babies,

but when things don’t go the way they’re

Matt Annabelle has never had any problems at

all, no learning difficulties. She’s hit all her

benchmarks at the age appropriate level,

as far as crawling and walking and being

able to talk. Now she’s in second grade

and she’s a fun little girl, very nice, very

caring. She’s at the top of her class in

reading, very smart, very creative, just a

wonderful little girl to have. And it would

be really sad not to have her, so I wanted

all the doctors and nurses to know what a

great job they did.

kriStina I’ve been a nurse for nine years and the

letter from this little girl is one of the best

things I’ve ever received. Once in awhile

we would talk about this case, because

this is one of those cases that stays with

you. We knew the baby went home and

everything went well, but you worry about

the long-term effects. So to have a letter

like this come seven years later reaffirms

that we did the right thing. Because of us,

this child is out there—healthy and with no

problems. It’s amazing. It’s a great, good

feeling.

Dee I was so surprised when I got a call asking if

can forget this case? Not in a lifetime.

arvy arvy I read the card the little girl sent and I felt

so happy. It’s amazing it has been seven

years, but that baby stands out for me.

Dr koSSari We always knew the baby was going to

survive. There was no reason to think she

wouldn’t. This was a perfect baby out of a

perfect delivery out of a perfect intrapartum

experience. I could not accept anything

less than perfect.

What struck me the most was the teamwork

that went into this baby, the staff and

the number of people who came to help.

They did not care about anything other

than saving this baby, and that is the spirit

of our nurses at Holy Cross. Because we

drop everything and run if a patient needs

us. And that’s the kind of care this hospital

provides for the community.

heather On the morning of March 15, 2010, I found

out I had breast cancer. Of course I freaked

out and called my mom. I was so stunned

that I couldn’t comprehend how the normal

world was continuing to exist around me.

Why was it still sunny outside? Didn’t those

chirping birds understand I had cancer?

PaM ShriftMan, heather’s mother

When Heather called it was devastating. I’m

an 8-year survivor of breast cancer and that

gave me a sense of hope. My first thought

was that my daughter’s experi ence would be

like mine, but each discussion with the

doctor made it clearer that breast cancer has

different subcategories, and that Heather’s

was significantly different from mine.

according to the american Cancer Society an american woman has about a 12% chance of devel-

oping breast cancer. Currently there are 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the united States. We

would like to hope that everyone diagnosed will survive, but they don’t. it’s predicted that 39, 520

women with the disease will die this year.

as much as we may fear cancer, or hold our breath waiting for test results, we never really believe

we could have it. especially when we’re young and imagining a future full of accomplishments and

adventure and love, and hopefully, a family and children of our own. Heather jones was a vibrant,

single woman of 37, busy with work and a social life when she discovered a lump in her breast.

She was in a particularly high-risk category,

not only because of the size of her tumor,

but its characteristics. Her case was

presented at Tumor Board, our

multi-disciplinary conference, and a

decision was made how to approach it. All

the physicians participating in the case had

to be very careful in their communication

with Heather because the last thing you

want is for her to despair and get depressed.

heather When you have a chronic illness you have

to trust your doctors, but you also have to

be your own advocate. You have to look

out for yourself and ask questions. You

have to be willing to say, Hey, wait, stop--I

don’t understand.

Heather was a challenging patient because

mastectomy is the only way to save her

life, it’s overwhelming.

Usually women diagnosed with breast

cancer are older and already have a family.

Older patients are usually more comfortable

with the concept of mastectomy, but

usually their tumors are smaller and they

don’t need a mastectomy. Unfortunately

Heather’s situation was the perfect storm

of devastating news.

A crucial point of oncology is individualiza-

tion of care—not just for the cancer care,

It’s overwhelming for patients, and it’s key

they have a central resource they can

call. I tell them exactly what’s going

on and go over everything that could be

a consideration for that cancer patient.

It could be anything from scheduling

treatment to discussing issues of fertility,

genetics, plastic surgery, and side effects.

heather Before I started any treatments I saw Dr.

Schwartz for at least 2 hours. It’s amazing

how much time the doctors spend with

their patients. Dr. Schwartz gave me a

well-rounded plan for western and

eastern medicine and suggested a

variety of complementary therapies.

Dr Schwartz Heather had several psychological

milestones to endure, since her treatment

decisions were partly based on how her

tumor responded to therapy.

It’s a different journey for every patient.

The most significant factor for Heather in

dealing with this diagnosis was her age.

She went from being a young, single,

happy, employed, successful person

looking for all the things that young, single

people are looking for, to becoming a

patient fighting a life-threatening disease.

heather Having seen my mother go through it I

realized it was totally survivable. I

remember seeing these little old men and

ladies getting treatment, and I thought,

Well, if they can do it, I can too.

Sharon When you’ve been diagnosed with cancer

it’s easy to feel that you’ve lost your power

and that everything happening is out of

your control. It’s important to give patients

some feeling of empowerment and reduce

their anxiety by explaining all the choices

in support services that they can utilize.

Dr Schwartz I’ve seen time and time again the benefits

of acupuncture, Reiki, relaxation classes,

and support groups to help deal with

stress and improve quality of life. People

who meditate have less anxiety, are

happier and sleep better.

Dr arzoo We have extremely modern technologies

complimented by older techniques of

healing all under one roof. I think location

matters. If Heather is here having

therapy and she has a question or

doesn’t feel well, I tell her just come

upstairs and see me.

heather My treatment was always my choice. The

cancer wasn’t anywhere else in my body,

but you don’t want to have to deal with

this again. I say this nonchalantly now, but

I thought--OK, bring it on. Let’s do

everything I can now.

I tell them exactly what’s going

on and go over everything that

could be a consideration for that

cancer patient.

Dr Schwartz Heather has done something that’s very

important—she’s taken responsibility for

her health. She learned about her disease,

about treatments, about side effects, and

then she did what was needed to get the

best results from those treatments.

Heather has been an active participant in

her care, and I think that’s going to have a

huge influence on how this impacts the

rest of her life.

Dr attai You hear the word cancer and you

automatically think--I’m going to be dead.

But women are surviving their cancer.

They’re outliving their cancer. It’s important

to help guide patients through this

process—let them know that things will be

different, but that doesn’t necessarily

mean that they’re going to be worse. In

fact for a lot of patients they feel that their

lives are better.

Some of my patients, whom I thought had

the roughest time with chemo, have come

back a year later and said having cancer

was the best thing that ever happened to

them. It forced them to appreciate what

they have and keep everything in proper

perspective.

heather When I was done with chemo I thought—

Ok, now what? Do I just sit around and

wait for it to come back? I’ve come to

realize there are things I have control over,

like diet and exercise that can make a

huge difference. I see people come in and

out of the Center, and I hope they’re taking

advantage of what’s offered here. It does

make a difference.

I can’t even imagine—all the people that

work in this building, they have to see this

every day. They deal with sick people day

in, day out. This makes me want to cry, but

I feel since I’m positive and friendly and

upbeat, that it helps them deal with it too.

Everybody here is so friendly—this might

sound weird, but I miss my friends here—

I’m not in that club anymore.

And that’s it—it makes it sound so simple,

but it went by very quickly. And here I am,

a year later, going back to work soon. Now

I feel, finally, back to normal.

lavenDer Sickle cell is a very tricky illness. For in-

stance, sickle cell patients get acute chest

syndrome, which appears very similar to

pneumonia, but it’s not. It has to be treated

very differently. That’s a matter of life and

death right there. Any infection is serious.

Their immune system is null and void. Most

sickle cell patients don’t have spleens—

they’ve been destroyed. On top of it, the

treatment can have side effects. Tiffany has

they’re in crisis, they’re in significant and

terrible pain. You have to figure out how to

effects. People who care for sickle cell

bequests

Leave a lasting legacy by remembering our Foundation in

your will.

CharitablereMaindertrusts

These planned giving vehicles help you reduce capital gains

taxes on appreciated property, increase your cash flow and

reduce your income tax payments.

The tax-exempt trusts make payments to one or more indi-

viduals at a stated rate or amount for life or a term of years.

Assets placed in trust will generate an income tax charitable

deduction (based on IRS guidelines), can be reinvested tax

free, and often avoid state tax benefits, since the trust assets

pass to our Foundation when the trust terminates. Donors may

appoint or serve as their own trustee.

CharitableGiFtannuities

Annuities often increase your retirement cash flow and re-

duce your taxes. A gift annuity is a simple agreement be-

tween the Foundation and one or two donors. In exchange

for a gift to our Foundation of $10,000 or more, the Founda-

tion makes lifetime annuity payments to you, based on the

age of the annuitant.

CharitablebequestoFretireMentPlans

andliFeinsuranCe

This allows you to name the Foundation as a beneficiary, or

partial beneficiary, of your life insurance policy, 401(k), IRA

or other retirement plan. There are various estate tax benefits.

PlannedGiFtsbeneFits

You can make a difference in the health care of your com-

munity through planned giving.

beneFitsinClude:

• Simplify and reduce estate settlement costs

• Avoid or reduce capital gains taxes on contributions

of appreciated long-term property with respect to

certain types of planned gifts.

•Obtain a charitable tax deduction.

•Reduce federal estate taxes

•Retain income rights for your lifetime or a loved one's

lifetime.

•Possibly increase disposable income.

•Be our guest at the Partners In Providence Annual

Recognition Event

•Be our guest at a variety of Providence Health &

Services Special Events.

•With your permission, have your name included in

various publications as part of this invaluable

group of donors.

Giving, Ron Bitzer,

Our Partners IN ProvidenCe leave legacies of healing for those who come after us through bequests,

charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities and charitable bequests of retirement plans and life insur-

ance. Donors who make planned gifts to advance the future of health care in our communities ensure that vital

services and new technologies will be available for generations to come.

PartnersIN ProvidenCe embrace our mission by making planned gifts that support our Medical Cen-

ters, with a vision to continue providing excellent clinical treatment with compassionate care. Our vision inspires

us to continually improve and upgrade our services to the community. We thank our friends for partnering with

us in this philanthropic endeavor. FaMiliesbeneFit.YoubeneFit.weallbeneFit.
