Shane Hughes was chosen as the winner from a field of three outstanding volunteers. He has been a member of the SES (State Emergency Services) for 35 years & has an outstanding record of volunteer service with the SES. He is a Trainer & Assessor, has earned numer- ous safety certificates & in 2013 was awarded the SES Commissioner’s Certificate of Appreciation. In 2009 Shane was diagnosed with a rare life threatening illness & was told by his specialist he would be dead by last Christmas. Despite this he has battled on & not let it hinder his SES work. Janice Downs received a Certificate of Commendation. She has been a huge family supporter, is a mentor to a child in need, assists the soup kitchen & writes poetry & encourages young people to be creative. Wendy Young nominated by Marine Rescue also has an outstanding volunteer record spanning 23 years. She has worked the radio, been treasurer & Vice President & co- ordinates the Port Macquarie Support Group which has over 600 members. Thanks to Debbie Loveday (Hastings Data Loggers), John Oxley (Accountant) & Dr Ted Giblin (Flynn’s Beach Medical centre) for do- nations for dinner & lunches to the awardees. Shane Hughes was chosen as the winner from a field of three outstanding volunteers. He has been a member of

the SES (State Emergency Services) for 35 years & has an outstanding record of volunteer service with the SES. He is a Trainer & Assessor, has earned numer-ous safety certificates & in 2013 was
