PRESIDENT’S CORNERSWACHA Continues to Find Ways to Lead the Electronic Payments Discussion with the 2nd Annual Executive Leadership Payments Summit

Payments are hitting the headlines on a regular basis these days—from major merchant breaches to, most recently, Apple Pay’s entry into the mobile payments space. But, what does it all mean for your institution and your customer relationships?

Finding the right balance between driving innovation and providing a safe payments environment is proving to be difficult for financial institutions. In fact, just staying ahead of the local, national and global issues that impact you is a challenge. SWACHA endeavors to help our members by raising awareness of these issues and fostering productive dialogue in the financial community, to drive better outcomes in terms of the policies and processes related to electronic payments.

To that end, we are bringing executives together at our annual Executive Leadership Payments Summit to introduce you to some of the industry’s experts and give you the opportunity explore opportunities that will shape the future of the electronic payments industry, as it undergoes dynamic change.

This is our second year hosting this event, and I am excited to reveal to you our lineup of topics and speakers that will join us on November 6 at the Irving Convention Center in Irving, Texas. We are pleased to have Gloria Colgan, PYMNTS.com; Erin Fonte, Cox Smith; and Dan Wood and Phillip Hinkle, with the Texas Department of Banking as featured speakers who will share their knowledge and help you address some difficult questions:

• Emerging technologies and generational preferences changing the face of consumer payments: How should your institution prepare?

• The pros and cons of EMV technology implementation: Is it the best approach for securing consumer payments?

• New entrants littering the payments landscape: Who will your institutions be competing with tomorrow?

• The transformation of the U.S. payments industry: Will technology, market demand and industry convergence lead to a completely new US payments platform?

We hope you will be able to join us for the 2nd annual Executive Leadership Payments Summit. We are confident it will leave you better positioned as you navigate your institution through the sea of changes occurring in today’s electronic payments industry. For more information about the 2014 Executive Leadership Payments Summit: Global Issues, Local Solutions, visit swacha.org or call 800-475-0585.

What are Bots, Botnets and Zombies? You have probably heard terms such as “bots,” “zombies,” and “botnets” in recent news stories about data breaches and other cyber security risks. But what exactly are they, how do they work, and what damage can they cause? A “bot,” short for “robot,” is a type of software application or script that performs tasks on command, allowing an attacker to take complete control remotely of an affected computer. The compromised machine may also be referred to as a “zombie.” A collection of these infected computers is known as a “botnet.” Read More
