MATCH REPORTS 8U Wendy Vigenser League Carlingford Braves vs Castle Hill Cavs Result: Loss 22-41 Player of the Match: Harry It was a nice sunny day at Castle Glen Reserve for our sixth game of the season. The Castle Hill team had their batting prowess on display and were a formidable opponent. But our Braves kept trying throughout and still managed to come up with some great moments to celebrate. Our fielding overall was done with passion, but the ball just didn’t want to stick in the glove today. There were some great attempts and almost catches by Charlee at pitcher and Ethan at 2nd base. Ruben pulled off a great tag between first and second base in the sixth innings and Ethan beat the runner to second in the final innings of the day to finish the game with a great out. Our batting was consistent and everyone did some great hitting, including our newest member Ryan. What great hitting for his first game! Leo showed off his fantastic sliding skills, while Thomas hit a great hit into the outfield to get several of our players home at once. Overall, everyone tried hard and had a good time. We look forward to our next challenge on Saturday.

9U Don Petroff Modball Carlingford vs Quakers Hill Result: Loss 5-34

Congratulations to Marcus L, our player of the match, for a great strike into the outfield which gave him a home run and got two others home!

The Cardinals started with a great first batting effort by Xavier M, looking strong as he ran to safe on 1st base. Unfortunately it was a quick 1st innings for Carlingford with several strikes, and Quakers Hill came out to bat strongly. The 1st innings saw good fielding by Tamati and Xavier M, as well as an impressive stop by Xavier S. The 2nd innings also saw Quakers Hill strong in the batting department with some big shots into the outfield. There were some good plays by Carlingford, working as a team when fielding. It was good to see some of those throws going straight to the mit.

In the 3rd innings Ethan did well getting to first base when batting and there were some nice plays by Xavier M and Luke to 1st base when fielding. Ben did a wonderful stop near 3rd base. The opposition were still looking very strong. Leading into the 4th innings, Luke did a great strike and was unlucky to be run out on 1st base. The hits were starting to flow and The Cardinals were starting to come alive after a slower start. Tamati got to first, and Ben just got run out on first by a whisker. Fielding improved with Xavier S tagging a runner to get him out and there

were skilful stops by Ethan, with backing up by Tamati.

The 5th innings saw hits by Marcus which got him to 2nd and Ethan again to 1st. Mitch did a fantastic strike but the catch by Quakers Hill at left field was just too good. Finally in the 6th we had loaded bases - could this be our chance to get one home? With loaded bases and several strong hits the crowd and team applauded as we got 5 players home - Jayden, Xavier, Luke, Marcus L and Marcus P. A fabulous home run by Marcus L in the final innings lifted everyone’s spirits. There was some great solid running by the boys.

The Carlingford Cardinals have more progress to make but it was good to see their efforts today in encouraging each other and thinking about their movements. Thanks to our team parents for their encouragement and support, and fulfilling weekly duties. Keep at it boys!

: 12U Phil Leonard Minor League Carlingford Cardinals vs Kellyville Result: Loss 3-8

Despite a really bright start and strong middle innings display Carlo ultimately went down in a final innings blow out resulting in a score line which in no way reflected how close this game was. Gabriel Muldong led the way with a perfect start after getting off base with a great strike and around for the first run thanks to a powerful hit behind second from Luke Howieson. Josh Barclay backed this up beautifully with a hit beyond first and these two were brought home by a Steve Walther screamer into the back field off the tee to give Carlo a three run start in the first innings. Kellyville could only get Patrick Kennedy home in response as Steve

Walther and Abbie Carcevic combined impressively as a unit to dominate from the mound and catcher to strike out two and catch the third to end the first innings 3-1 up. The Second innings passed quickly as both batting sides failed to trouble the scorers after some great fielding and pitching from both teams (although the pitchers continued to trouble the umpire with two hits!). Only Kieren Prior and Owen Edgar-Hughes provided any resistance from either batting line up and both were desperately unlucky to see powerful shots connect well, disappear deep into left field only for them to land over the foul line. The pattern continued into the third with Kellyville scoring the only run of the inning after Cooper Gravina launched a shot into the back field which also gave us arguably the game’s best fielding moment. After a great effort Gabriel Muldong was really unlucky not to hold onto the catch before snapping a return to first where Samuel Leak took a sharp catch only for the Kellyville batter to be ruled safe in a very marginal call. This handed the momentum to Kellyville into the fourth and final inning with Carlo ahead only 3-2. Mitchell Clarke tried to lead the way home with the bat with a brilliant hit deep into the back field that was unfortunately matched by an equally brilliant catch and the Carlo inning ended scoreless. This bought an energised Kellyville into bat for the final time and despite great work from the changed combination of Joshua Barclay at Pitcher and Rex Urquhart at catcher a tiring Carlo

were unable to prevent Kellyville adding six more runs to end the game with a final scoreline that flattered the eventual winners. 13U Jeff Catt Intermediate West Baulko/Carlo v Castle Hill Cavaliers Result: Draw 15-15 Down to 9 players with a few missing, saw us up against Castle Hill today getting our first "point" on the board this season, the win was there for the taking, but not to be on this occasion. We got 10 runs in the top of the 4th with Castle Hill replying with 9 runs to draw the game. Highlights: Every player got on base, with Ryan & Kobe getting 2 hits each. Awesome pitching by Kobe today, striking out 3 A great catch by Jackson in the outfield at the end of the game and getting the ball to Dom on 3rd for the double (which saved us from losing the game) 14U Peter Street League Carlingford vs Quakers Hill Result: Loss 6-8 Player of the game was Josh with his batting and relief pitching. Today we played against 4th place Quakers Hill Pirates in the early game. The vibe was good and warm ups were completed with a lot more intention. It was a game to win!

Page 12

We fielded first and got off to a reasonable start. Our ground ball fielding has improved but we couldn't quite convert a couple of plays to get off to a really good start and conceded 4 runs. Our turn to bat and with Kieran on base, up stepped Josh to hit a triple to get Kieran home. Josh got stranded on 3rd and we were 4-1 down after 1 innings. The second innings was a much improved in-fielding for a couple of outs at first. They got a couple of late runs to make it 6. Our second innings was a bit stop start with Darcy getting round to 3rd on some steals before Will got her home with a well-placed hit to second base. Down 6-2 after 2 innings. Up stepped Josh to relief pitch for Jason and the heat was sizzling out of his arm. Connor was catching really well and we only conceded another 2 runs to make it 8-2 with our turn to bat. The tide started turning our way and soon we had loaded bases. We got 1 out trying to steal home on an overthrow from a catch. With 2 out we got the next 4 home to make things interesting. We loaded up more bases and we took one chance to steal home but alas it wasn't to be. We went down 8-6 to 4th place and walked away wondering what could have been. Nevertheless they played well and keep

improving to show we can compete with the higher teams. 14U Graham Hay League Baulko/Carlingford Cardinals vs Rouse Hill Result: Loss 5-11

We were right in this game and were ahead 1-0 after two innings. However what is becoming a concerning trend, we let the game slip in one innings. We had Rouse Hill at 1-1; two down in the third innings and let them pile on six runs, mainly due to simple errors in the infield. In div one baseball, you have to be clean and focused and execute the simple plays, or else your opponent will take advantage and the game will quickly get away from you. We have to get better at closing out innings. That said, we rallied in the last innings to score four with a home run to Harry and singles to Eve and Harrington. Just think, if we had closed out that third innings, we would have been right in the game. Other highlights included a triple to Bailey in the first and triple to Eve to go with her single. .
