THE 2017 BISHOP LIGHT FUND
Dear Friends,
The Phoebe Needles Center is about the business of spiritual formation. The Center provides spiritual and educational programs that create an environment and experiences that bring about transformation – transformation for children, youth, families, and adults. These experiences change lives, perspectives, and even the deepest aspects of the human spirit. We believe these opportunities give people of all ages a chance to experience God’s presence, and that changes lives. We have testimony after testimony to support that point.
One of the regular participants in the Center for Lifelong Learning programs recently commented, “I have met the most interesting people, participated in fascinating seminars, and been part of a wonderful Christian fellowship – the Phoebe Needles Center is such a blessing!”
Your contributions to this ministry matter!
In 2010 Bishop Light wrote, “This year I celebrated my 56th year of ordained ministry. There are many changes that have taken place during these years, but one constant factor has been the generosity of God’s people. Through years of great abundance, and times of economic distress, the people of God regularly rise to the challenge to support our common mission of our Church. Phoebe Needles continues to serve our common mission as a gathering place for Christian community, forma-tion, and renewal for people of all ages.”
We hope you will support the Phoebe Needles Center again this fall!
God’s blessings - The Rev. John H. Heck

YOUR DONATION MATTERS!We are asked from time to time, “What is the best way to contribute to the ministry of the Phoebe Needles Center?” There are many ways you might consider making a contribution. Here are a few ways that some of our other donors use:
~ Mailing a check ~ A payroll deduction ~ With a credit card (using PAYPAL) ~ Gift an asset electronically from a brokerage account ~ Elecronically using PAYPAL (you can even set up a regular monthly deduction) ~ And don’t forget IRA Distributions
For a regular IRA, there are specific rules on both contributions and with-drawals. Withdrawals for distributions are generally not taken before age 59½. With limited exceptions—such as uniform distributions over a lifetime, disability, separation from employment after age 55, or other exceptions—there is a 10% excise tax in addition to the regular ordinary income tax on withdrawals before age 59½. Therefore, very few individuals take early withdrawals before age 59½.
Between ages 59½ and 70½, there is an optional period for withdrawals. The withdrawals are not required, but you may take withdrawal of any amount. Of course, for a regular IRA the amount withdrawn is taxable to you and no longer grows tax free in the fund. Therefore, you may not want to take withdrawals unless you actually need the funds for living expenses.
After you reach age 70½, there are required minimum distributions (RMDs). The distributions start at approximately 3.8% at age 71 but increase with age each year. The distribution is calculated using your balance on December 31 multiplied by the appropriate percentage, and must be taken by the end of the next year. If you fail to take your distribution, there is a 50% penalty, so an error or an intentional disregard of the RMD rules is quite rare.
ALL donation to the Phoebe Needles Center are fully tax deductible.
