We arelooking for new members for our one-year old Drama Group. If you are interested, you are invited to join us on Thursday 26th September in the Teachers’ Club at7pm where we will start planning our activities for the year. We had a veryenjoyable first year putting on sketches for friends and the other College students. We will be more ambitious this year!

STUDENTS’ COMMITTEE PROJECTSThe Student Committee is elected every two years and organizes a range ofactivities for the students as well as helping out with the work of the college. Inaddition to the usual events - the Christmas Party (Thursday 12th December thisyear) and the Students’ Annual General Meeting, it will coordinate a range ofeducational, social and cultural activities during the year, including visits to sitesand exhibitions of topical interest and conferences and workshops on key currentissues. During the year it facilitated events at the week-ends: a Tour of the 1916Mount Street Battle Site, the Botanic Gardens, a first walking tour of 1913 Lock Outsites and a visit to Bully’s Acre, the oldest graveyard in Dublin. Of particularsignificance this year will be remembering the 1913 Lockout – lectures, events andfurther tours of the relevant sites will be organized. Information about these andother events will be circulated in classes, on the website & facebook.

CHOIRThe People's College Choir has vacancies for a small number of new members in thesoprano, tenor and bass lines; the alto line is currently full. The choir has 49 members(29 female and 20 male) and was founded in 1993 as part of the wider culturalprogramme of courses and subjects offered by the People's College. The memberscome from the greater Dublin region and the choir sings a wide range of musicalstyles; from madrigals, spirituals, and traditional Irish airs to arrangements ofmodern popular songs. The choir generally performs at concerts and college socialevents and has participated in festivals both at home and abroad, having travelled toDenmark (2000), Italy (2004), and Austria (2008). The choir has taken part inexchanges with other choirs which brought it to France (2006), Spain (2010) and istravelling again in October of this year to France (La Rochelle) where we will performin concert with Ré-Sonance (Ile de Ré). While the ability to read music would be adefinite asset it is not by any means a requirement for membership of the choir;indeed, most of our members do not read music.
