Please engage the school to solve your concern so that we can find a suitable solution for all parties involved. Under no circumstance is a parent or carer allowed to approach another child about a matter that may have occurred at school. Children have the right for school to be a safe place for them, and as Principal this is something that I will advocate for on behalf of all members of our community. Schools come under the Inclosed Lands Protection Act 1901 and the Principal has the ability to control access to our school grounds. Approaching a child could be considered an illegal act and potentially referred to NSW Police. As teachers with the Department, we have to cooperate fully with any Police investigation. Acceptable behaviour is also to be extended to all staff. No staff member should feel threatened by a member of the community when they come to work. Our staff do an amazing job supporting the students at Pennant Hills Public School. There may be times when things are not how you may have hoped please ensure that you address all your concerns in a respectful manner. The Intermediate Band received a Highly Commended, and Senior Band were placed second in A Division. Two very well-deserved and outstanding results for students who placed a lot of time and effort in to this program. Principal’s Report School Grounds and Student Safety is Paramount As members of the Pennant Hills Public School community, we have an obligation to ensure that we all behave appropriately to ensure students, staff and parents feel safe when on our school grounds. There are going to be times when you may not be happy with something that has occurred at school and I encourage you to initiate conversation with the school to resolve your concerns. So to all Band families now is the time to be considering whether you may be able to fill this role. Raelene has a wealth of knowledge and self-nominating now means you will be able to transition into the role over the next six months to ensure that you are well-supported. If a convener is not found the band program will be in jeopardy of not being able to run next year.

Classroom Resources This year all teachers were asked to provide me with a wishlist of the resources they would like to support their teaching and learning programs. All teachers’ wishlists have been approved for any resource relating to learning, excluding furniture. Staff have purchased readers for the classroom, maths supplies, art supplies, PDHPE equipment to name a few areas to assist them in the classroom. Late last week I purchased eight interactive TVs to replace the failing Interactive Whiteboards that are in many classrooms. These interactive TVs will arrive in the next couple of weeks. With the introduction of the MiniLit and MacqLit programs to support students, many thousands of dollars have been used to purchase specific resources to support these beneficial programs. These purchases would not be possible without the wonderful support of the school’s P&C. Thank you so much for all your support as it goes straight back in to supporting your child’s education.

Kind regards, Mr Matt Pinchbeck Principal

Please meet at the Trebor Road office at 10am and I will be delighted to show you our wonderful school. K-2 Athletics Carnival What a wonderful day for the K-2 Athletics carnival last Thursday! The students had a wonderful time as did the families who attended. Thank you to those who were able to make it on the day, it made it extra special. A huge thank you to Mrs Parras for coordinating the event and all of the K-2 teachers for ensuring a successful day.

Movement skills Movie Night A very successful evening was had at the Movie Night on Wednesday last week. The Year 6 students conducted themselves brilliantly, organising and signing in students, providing popcorn and poppas and generally making sure everyone had a fabulous time. A special thanks to Mrs Griffith for coordinating the event and the school leaders for providing a wonderful experience for all students and conducting an amazing clean up at the end! Funds from the Movie Night will go towards the Year 6 gift to the school at the end of the year. Great job!

Classroom visit 5F demonstrated the inventive ways that they were using the makey makey devices. I could see why the students were so enthusiastic to demonstrate their projects, they were brilliant! Collaboratively, there were groups who created stories with voice recordings and sound effects, some groups created whole pianos playing their own compositions with their feet, others used instrumental sounds to recreate known songs like ‘Baby Shark’. It was very impressive, well done 5F!

Fete Outcomes We are excited to report that the 2019 Fete event raised a nett profit of $55,133! This is an extraordinary achievement - especially given the committee’s decision to downsize the fete this year by eliminating some higher labour stalls. This meant we were able to funnel extra classes where they were really needed, leading to a more manageable, sustainable event. THANK YOU to all those who responded to our Fete Survey. If you indicated that you would like to help in a particular capacity next year, please email [email protected] with your details. To those of you who requested that some retired stalls (Second Hand Clothes/ Hot Chips etc) be reinstated next year, what we need is someone to volunteer to run these. Feel free to let us know if you’re interested! Finally we are thrilled to announce that we have a brand new Fete Coordinator who will be succeeding Dayan McLeod next year. Christine Kulatunga has kindly agreed to lead the team in 2020. Christine is currently the convenor of the P&C Communications Group and a member of the P&C Executive.

The Green Team Let’s look at the last of the 3 R’s, REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE, here are some tips to help you RECYCLE the waste created in your household; Soft Plastic Includes chip, bubble wrap and biscuit packets (not the trays), old shopping bags, including the reusable ones (they are made from recycled plastic). Soft plastics can’t go into your yellow bin, but can be taken to Coles/Woolworths or to the council run community recycling centre at Sefton Road, Thornleigh Plastic Bottles/Drink Cartons If the lid is made of the same material put it back on and don’t crush, check if they are eligible for Return and Earn (you can use the bin in the school playground) Cardboard/Paper Newspapers, boxes (cut the tape and fold them flat so they take up less space in your recycling bin). Metal Empty steel and aluminium containers from tinned foods and aerosols can go into your yellow bin. The community recycling centre can take aerosols with contents. Glass Medicine bottles, jars and wine/beer bottles can go into co-mingled recycling or may be eligible for Return and Earn Plastic Disposable containers, laundry/cleaning product containers/sprays Glasses/Spectacles Donate to charity Batteries Take to Thornleigh community recycling or Ikea Paint Take to Thornleigh community recycling PLEASE REMEMBER: do not put your yellow bin recyclables into plastic bags, it should all be loose. Make sure your recyclables are as clean and dry as possible Follow this link for the A-Z waste and recycling guide - https://www.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/property/waste/recycling You can contact The Green Team at [email protected] Thanks to the Canteen Committee for organising the lunches for the Athletics, everyone was very thankful for the hot lunch!
