Dear TPS Members, A new season will soon be starting. I hope you have had a great
summer and will now be looking forward to a new season of
making music together. I acknowledge that the spring season was
more difficult than I anticipated and I thank you for your perse-
verance and producing a well performed concert..
The fall season will begin Monday, September 25 with registra-
tion and social time at 6:15 p.m.. and rehearsal at 7:00 p.m.
Again, all rehearsals will be held at Sturgeon Bay United Method-
ist Church. The Saturday rehearsal will be on October 28, 9:00-
11:00 a.m. Dues remain the same($25).
The concerts will feature a cantata by Pepper Choplin titled “I
hear the prophet Callin’ ”. Pepper Choplin was born in the south
and his music reflects the sounds of folk and Appalachian music.
This cantata retells the Christmas story. The songs that make up
the piece are interspersed with readings from the Bible to enhance
the telling of the story. The rest of the concert will be individual
songs, some well known and some new.
Please join me in welcoming our new Assistant Director for this
Fall. Her name is Mary Hall. As you know, our choir membership
has been decreasing over the last several seasons. Please plan to
participate and urge both former and new members to join us.
Personal contact is still the best way to build our membership.

TPS Board News Dear current and former members of TPS:
We are pleased to be able to organize this Fall’s concert so you can share one of your passions
(singing). Your Board includes: Ricki, Jane, Susan, Betty, Roger, George, and Mary Lou. We
have a vacancy on the board so feel free to step forward and volunteer! These members de-
vote at least as much time to their Board tasks as they do to their singing. Please acknowledge
them when you see them at rehearsals.
In addition to organizing the concerts, the Board has been working on two larger objectives:
Membership: Recruiting new members, retaining current ones, and encouraging previous
members to join with us again .
Survey: You will be asked to complete a short survey to provide insight into our mem-
bership development.
Staff Change: Mary Hall will join us this Fall as assistant artistic director. She will replace
Martha Ranek. Mary Hall holds a B.A. in Applied Voice from Butler University (Indianapolis,
IN), with a secondary in Flute. Since returning to Door County in 2000 with her husband
Andy, Mary has been active in community theater (former Artistic/Musical Director at TAP)
and has performed several times with the Peninsula Music Festival Chorus. She is currently
Pupil Services/Special Education Secretary for Southern Door County School District.. A Fa-
cilitator for LEAP: The Human Kindness Project, and can occasionally be found hosting/
serving at the Bluefront Café. September 2017 begins Mary’s 13th year as Choir Director of
Hope United Church of Christ, where they enjoy her enthusiasm and creativity. She also
maintains a small private studio of voice and flute students. Mary and Andy live in Sturgeon
Bay with their two children: Molly(10) and Emmet(1.5). After admiring TPS work as an audi-
ence member for years, Mary is excited to be joining TPS!
Thanks. and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday September 25, 2017.

We promoted our 2016 Holiday Concert at the Sturgeon Bay parade on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Left to right:
Marc Paulson, Susan Morgan, Paul Kok, Betty Bowers, Judy Paulson, Dave Swender, Jane Stevenson, Ricki Mitchell, and
Tim Graul. Tim’s wife Barb walked alongside and handed out concert flyers. A cold and windy day, but still lots of fun!
