care of her husband; she will be greatly missed. Judy Clouse has jumped up and taken over the 2nd VP/Membership po-sition and is running with it! We are a blessed club having such great ladies all working together to help us reach our goals. I hear nickers, my favorite sounds....grab an apple and off to the barn!

2015, how did it get here so quickly? What a tremendous year we had! Thanks to all of you we were able to surpass our goals! I cannot thank you enough! We have more to get done this year, and to that end, your board has set a lofty agenda! We will remain involved with our partners at Vista Del Camino, Family Promise, Wreaths Across America, Bethesda Baptist Church,

the Arizona TARS and Hillsdale College. We will either con-tinue to support Fisher House, or choose another great mili-tary organization to support. We have committees that need help, so please give me a call and we will make sure you get involved. You will notice, after you receive your Patriot, that our logo has changed. We are so often confused with the Paradise club that we felt that having a Palo Verde tree as our logo would help to keep our name separate. Many thanks to Loralee DeSanto for creating this lovely new design. On January 23rd we will be competing again for the Best Republican Club in Arizona! I don't see how any other club could surpass us, but keep your fingers crossed for a repeat. The Winter State Meeting for AzFRW is just around the cor-ner, February 27 - 28. It is being held in Tucson, so we will carpool down again! Please let me know if you are planning on attending. The registration form will be in our Patriot. I want to thank Loralee DeSanto for all of her hard work within our club. She has taken a leave of absence to take

Diana Balich, long time member and former board member, passed away on January 6, 2015.

Peter Godfrey, husband of member Nancy Godfrey, passed away on January 8, 2015

Kathleen Gougian, new member, passed away on December 14, 2014.

Rest in Peace. You all were loved and will be greatly missed.

From left to right, Anita Rodriguez, Joan Lang, First

Lady of Arizona, Angela Ducey and Lisa Gray at our

December Christmas party. Lisa visited us in Decem-

ber to tell us why she was running for Maricopa Coun-

ty Chairman. The election took place on Saturday,

January 10th. Lisa lost to Tyler Bower in a run-off.

We applaud Lisa for all that she does for the Arizona

Republican party. And we congratulate Tyler on his

win. We wish him much success in leading the GOP in

Maricopa county.

Also shown below is our president Joan Lang who received a VIP invitation to attend from our new Governor Doug Ducey! Other club members, including Paula and Bruce Linker, also were honored as VIPs. Congratulations! We know how hard so many of us work for the conservative cause! See page 4 for additional photos showing what we’ve been up to...

Continued from page 3: In addition to being able to celebrate November’s Republi-can election victories at the January inauguration, our club has been busy with a number of other activities. Many of us attended Wreath Across America's wreath laying ceremony on December 13th. Even more of us supported the group by mak-ing donations and purchasing wreaths (see page 8 from Wreaths Across America chairman, Michelle Creveling). Additionally, we attended as well as provided spon-sorship for The Arizona American African Committee’s third annual Emancipation Proclamation observation. Thanks to Anita Rodriguez and Joan Lang for providing the Wreath Across America photos.

In December we were honored to welcome who at that time was Governor-elect Doug

Ducey (on January 5th, 2015 Doug officially became our Governor!). Also in attendance

was candidate for Maricopa County Chairman, Lisa Gray. Additionally, we were wonder-

fully entertained by Palo Verde RW Pachyderm and Rockabilly Hall of Fame member Jim

Gray and our very own Marjorie Collins. Jim and Marjorie helped us to get into the holi-

day spirit with some special Christmas songs including “It’s a Marshmallow World”

which many of us were unable to get out of our heads for many days thereafter.

Our giving tree project was a true example of what can be accomplished through selfless acts of charity. We want to thank Cindy Hill for her donation to our project on $500 on behalf of the Police Officers of Scottsdale Associa-tion. One family was speechless and sent thank you notes that are enclosed. Approximately 70 gifts, tree/ornaments, stockings/stuffers and food were delivered on December 18th. Thanks Again, this project exemplified the TRUE meaning of Christmas. Also, many board members donated dozens of cookies, frosting, and sprinkles for the cookie decoration activity at Family Promise following dinner on December 17th. It was so fun! We even persuaded the teenagers to join in!! One of the homeless teenagers (hearing impaired, pictured below) won first prize for his creations.

Palo Verde Republican Women (PVRW) was

chartered in January 1974 under the guidance

of Mrs. Joan Wood who became the club’s first

president. Most of the charter members had

been a part of Scottsdale Republican Women,

one of the most active groups in the state of

Arizona. The club eventually withdrew from

the National Federation of Republican Women

and member Joan Wood and others who

wished to remain in the Federation formed

PVRW. From the beginning, PVRW maintained

a reputation as a vigorous and active club, and

has remained a powerful force within the Fed-

eration to this day. We educate our members

through programs presented at our monthly

meetings (the third Wednesday of every

month—except July and August), through our

monthly newsletter (The Patriot), and by

attending AzFRW quarterly meetings.
