MALLIA'S MOMENTS
Have you ever prayed for the gift of the Holy Spirit?
Maybe you have prayed to the Holy Spirit, but have you
really prayed for the gift of the Holy Spirit? I am not sure
that I prayed for the gift of the Holy Spirit even at my
Confirmation. I know I have often prayed to the Holy
Spirit and I know that I have prayed for various gifts at
various times, but being changed and molded by the Holy
Spirit? That was a much more gradual shift in my
thinking and praying.
The Holy Spirit gives life to all things. We hear about it
in the book of Genesis when God breathes on the waters.
We hear about this life when Ezekiel preaches to the
dead bones and the come back to life and of course we
hear about it in the feast of Pentecost and in the activity
of the early believers.
But it is not enough to know what the Holy Spirit has
done in the past or that there are gifts of the Holy Spirit
given to us. At this point in the life of the Church, we are
in need of a rebirth, a conversion of mind and heart that
can only come from the Holy Spirit. As a people of God in
a world that is becoming less religious and lacks
responsiveness built on conviction of spirit, our need to be
radically transformed by the Holy Spirit is an essential
ingredient to our being able to proclaim the Good News of
Jesus Christ in this modern world.
It is important therefore, that we all pray for the gift of
the Holy Spirit to come into our personal and collective
hearts as we prepare for Pentecost and our Missionary
Strategic Plan. I believe God wants to do great things
through us and to make that happen, we need the Holy
Spirit to be among us breathing new life in us. God bless
you all.
Please return your raffle tickets:
If you are registered at Holy Family and you received
your raffle tickets either at church or through the mail, it is
very important that you return the purchased or sold
tickets as soon as possible. The financial success of the
festival really depends on those raffle ticket sales. If you
did not receive any tickets and would like some, please
make sure you contact the parish office.
Dinner Tickets on Saturday June 15
th
This year we will be having a catered dinner by The
Village Café on Saturday night with entertainment
provided by The Favorites. I really hope you can attend.
We are limiting the dinner tickets to 150 people. So,
please get your tickets early to make sure you do not miss
out. If you are not able to make the dinner, please join us
for the music. Carry out orders will be available. The
silent basket auction is also available that night.
All Parish Picnic on June 16th
On Sunday we will be having an outdoor mass under
the tent at 10:30am, followed by a free-will offering lunch.
We will also have a petting zoo, games, bounce houses
and other activities for the kids including a free raffle for
great prizes, but you must be present to win. We will also
have entertainment under the tent, bingo in the hall and
the silent basket auction. It should be a great time for all
ages and everyone is welcome. Hope to see you there.

MALLIA’S MOMENTS Continued from Page 1
Walk with Jesus: Corpus Christi Pilgrimage Walk
The following Sunday is our annual pilgrimage walk and
everyone is invited to attend. You are welcome to join us for
mass at 6:30 am and then join the walk after mass. If you
are unable to walk, transportation will be provided as in the
past. We will conclude the walk at Holy Family in time for the
10:30 am mass. If you can’t make the whole walk, please
feel free to join us at any point.
It is an important statement of faith that we do by showing
our basic belief in the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity is
present in the Blessed Sacrament. I ask that we try to
maintain a proper spirit of prayer during the pilgrimage walk.
This is not a parade. It is a part of our spiritual journey
signifying that we always seek to follow Jesus. Thank you in
advance.
Please Think about:
1) Registering for our school. We have limited
space especially in Pre-School which is almost
full already. We also offer a Transitional
Kindergarten as well as a regular K-8 program.
All of our classrooms have certified and highly
qualified teachers, Smartboards and we are
constantly increasing and diversifying our learning
experiences for our students. Please check out
our program today.
2) Registering for our Vacation Bible School. It is a
great way to kick off the summer with fun
activities and great spiritual learning. Join the fun
today.
3) I want to again encourage our high school age
students to think about our summer retreat
opportunity at Stubenville Ohio. This is a great
chance to deepen your relationship with Jesus
and find a deeper truth in your life. Don’t miss
out.
4) Finally, I hope you will be generous again this
year with our CSA drive. You should have
received your letter in the mail. If you did not,
please call the office and we will get a letter out to
you. Thank you for your support.

The Day of the Lord:
An Unleash the Gospel Pastoral Note
from Archbishop Vigneron
In his latest pastoral note to the faithful, entitled The
Day of the Lord, Archbishop Vigneron encourages
the faithful to “reclaim Sunday as a day set apart for
the Lord, the family and for works of mercy” in
recognition of Christ’s resurrection, the pouring out
of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost Sunday and
the first “rest” of God after the work of creation.
In the pastoral note, Archbishop Vigneron also
announced a new policy to cease youth sporting
activities on Sundays. This re-commitment to
honoring Sunday is rooted in Synod 16 when the
faithful of the archdiocese expressed their desire to
rededicate Sunday to worship, rest and family time.

Festival yard signs Chair – 60 Small
yard signs-prepare, hand out signs to
parishioners and collect after festival.
Seven Large yard signs-prepare and
set up signs at designated spots.

tables, chairs, dance floor, bars, port-a
-johns (the 2019 contracts are already
set) and oversee their deliveries; make
arrangements to get picnic tables from
the Good Old Days and the stage from
Holy Family. Oversee the setup with
parishioners on set up night.
Someone will assist you this year and
into the next and explain the complete
set up process to you so that the
transition to chairperson is easy.

Volunteer Information
We have decided to keep the volunteer sign up this year
online only as it proved to be very beneficial. However,
it was too difficult to keep the signup board in church and
the online signup in sync with each other last year. So,
there will not be a signup board in the church this year.
There will be two ways for you to sign up online:
Visit our website www.staugustinecatholicparish.org,
click on “Parish Festival” at the top, then click on
“For Parishioners” in the left column. Scroll
down to “Volunteers” where you will find
instructions, a link to a printable version of the
list of volunteer descriptions and time slots, and
a link to our Sign-Up Genius page. If you are
already familiar with Sign up Genius, simply go
to www.tinyurl.com/stafestival2019 to sign up
If you do not utilize the internet, we will be
available after all masses on Saturday, June 8
th
and Sunday, June 9
th
to help you with the online
signup. Future sign up dates will be published in
the bulletin.
A flyer with all the descriptions and time slots will be in
the bulletin several times for you to review. You can
also visit our website as indicated above to print one off.
If you have any questions, please call Cindy Manchik at
810-217-9058.

The Catholic Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of
Detroit is looking for qualified candidates for leadership
positions at our summer camp operation. The jobs are
posted on the Archdiocese of Detroit website, aod.org,
under the “Careers” tab at the top of the home page.
The positions are:
Camp Program & Marketing Director
Camp Operations Manager
Camp Program Administrative Assistant
Camp Maintenance Supervisor
The Camp Program & Marketing Director will operate out
of the AOD offices at the Chancery. The other positions
are “on campus” at our camp property in the greater Port
Sanilac area.
A Job Well Done
I can’t express how proud I am of our school’s Science
Olympiad team this year. They had an exceptional
showing at our Regional Tournament, with each student
team member walking away with at least one medal. But
that isn’t the primary reason why I am so proud of them.
They worked very hard throughout the school year, and
were willing to come to each practice ready to learn from
their coaches. A lot of effort was put in on their part,
even outside of practices, and their hard work showed on
competition day. Additionally, the students showed
outstanding sportsmanship and handled each event
victory or loss with a great deal of humility and maturity
for their age. They represented our school very well, and
I would say they acted as a good representative for other
Catholic schools as well.
My hope is that each of our Science Olympiad team
members walked away from this experience with a sense
of accomplishment, confidence in themselves, and a new
appreciation for learning and the STEM fields. They
were able to see firsthand the result of their hard work,
and that tackling challenging material is both manageable
and fun. It is also my hope that the skills they developed,
and the new knowledge they’ve learned through
participating in Science Olympiad will carry over into
other facets in their lives for the better.
Kyle, Victoria, Roman, Luke, Tyler, Antonio, Aaron, and
Derek: You did an awesome job this year and I couldn’t
be prouder of you! Keep up the good work!
Deb, Tony, Jennifer, and Jonathan: Thank you so much
for coaching and for all the hard work you put into this!
Parents, Mrs. Lenn, Ms. Savoyard, Fr. Joe, and the
School Staff: Thank you for your support in establishing
this program as a part of our school, and I look forward
to your continued support!
Have a blessed week everyone!

Cardinal Mooney Summer Camps
It is hard to believe but summer is right around
the corner. Cardinal Mooney Catholic High
School will be hosting Summer Camps for
students going into 5th-9th grade. Your
student will have many camps to choose from,
including Mock Trial, Football, Robotics,
Basketball and Volleyball.
Some of the camps begin as early as June, so make sure
you reserve your spot today. You can find the registration
form at cardinalmooney.org or you can contact our

Camp Sancta Maria is honored to have a role in
the process of forming young Christian lives.
At Camp Sancta Maria, your son will experience
1 – 2 weeks full of fun, personal growth and
spiritual development in a technology free zone.
Their time at camp is filled with activities for everyone:
horseback riding, swimming, ropes course, sports, arts
and crafts and more.
But most importantly, their time at CSM balances out the
physical activities with a strong spiritual environment, with
campers attending daily Mass, praying the angelus and
having quiet time to reflect on their relationship with Christ.
To learn more about Camp Sancta Maria or to register,
visit CampSanctaMaria.aod.org.
