will only be given by staff covering lessons. It is a reward for students who successfully complete cover
work.
The RRS achievement can be awarded for a variety of articles relating to RRS. For this policy we highlight
two of these:
Article 29 (goals of education) - education must develop every child’s personality, talent and
abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights as well as respect for
their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.
Article 31 (leisure play and culture) - every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a
wide range of cultural and artistic activities.
Teachers may award students with a Rights Respecting Schools’ achievement if they feel that the
students have met either of the two articles listed above. Examples could include taking part in music,
drama, artistic events etc. Additionally, it may be that a child has taken part in a debate in a classroom
in which he/she shows respect for others’ points of view.
Teachers should always try to recognise when a child puts in an excellent level of effort or displays
exemplary attitude, helpfulness or, indeed, an improved work ethic. Sometimes it can be underestimated
how much power awarding such an achievement has for the child and, indeed, their parents. Every
opportunity should be taken to recognise students for going the extra mile. A certificate of excellence
is awarded for an exceptional piece of work or an exceptional contribution to school life. This could be a
project or a particular essay. Alternatively, it could be awarded due to a particularly excellent comment
from parents or other students about the way in which a child has approached supporting them in school,
for example, at prospective parents’ evening or around the college.
Regular contribution to college life could include examples such as listening to children read or taking part
in a club on a regular basis. Any student who has a 100% attendance record for a term will also be awarded
a regular contribution to college life reward. (letter 2)
The exceptional contribution to college life award should recognise when a student has shown continual
and positive support to the community of Painsley. Examples would include supporting a peer who has
experienced difficulties in their life on an ongoing basis. It could also include taking part in the spiritual
life of the school on an ongoing basis. The key to remember here is that it is an exceptional contribution.
It is something that is rare and should be recognised as such. A letter will be sent home from the Principal
to acknowledge the exceptional contribution to college life award. In addition to achieving the points, the
following is a list of rewards that a student will receive for recognition of their achievement points:
1) A text message will be sent home on a daily basis if a student achieves an achievement point.
2) On a Friday, students will be recognised during Emmaus time (as part of the Emmaus programme)
for the achievements that they have accumulated during the week and to date. This should be
recognised and praised by Emmaus tutors, Pastoral Leads and peers.
3) Rewards assemblies are held every half-term where the Principal hands out certificates to
students for their efforts.
![Page 4: THE PAINSLEY CATHOLIC COLLEGE and... · 3 will only be given by staff covering lessons. It is a reward for students who successfully complete cover work. The RRS achievement can be](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022052006/601a414b98c30837ed5c9982/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
4
Conduct points
Conduct points are calculated by taking the total number of achievement points minus the total number
of behaviour points. This is considered to be the fairest way to recognise overall achievement.
Once a student reaches 100 positive conduct points, a postcard will be sent home to recognise the
achievement of the child.
Once a student reaches 150 positive conduct points, they will receive an exceptional commendation from
the Principal. This will be recognised both in Assembly/Act of Worship and in the form of a letter home.
Once a student reaches 200 positive conduct points, they will receive a letter of commendation from the
Principal. The student will also meet the Principal personally so that he/she can receive the praise that
he/she deserves.
Once a student receives 250 conduct points they will be invited to a special breakfast celebration that
will take place during the school day.
The top 10% of students receiving the highest number of conduct points will qualify for a special reward
(details to be confirmed).
NB: In order for appropriate arrangements to be made the final date for the breakfast/ 150 and 200
points meetings and special reward, will be the Friday prior to activity week.
Examples of departmental positive contribution/rewards are in Appendix 2
Classroom sanctions
See list below – these should be recorded on SIMs. A warning should be given for the first offence (if
this is considered appropriate). A further offence to lead to a lunchtime detention. Any further incidents
lead to an automatic after-school detention. These sanctions should be imposed at departmental level.
Contact should be made with home so that parents are aware of the sanction. Staff will refrain from
referring to the Pastoral Lead unless there is an issue in Emmaus time or outside of the classroom, for
example, behaviour in the corridors or if the child needs to be referred out of lesson for a serious breach
of the rules. Pastoral Leads will follow-up all issues but teachers and HODs are principally responsible
for behaviour in the classroom. In order to have a consistent approach, staff should not give a sanction
that has a greater weighting than 4 behaviour points. This will be the responsibility of HODs/Pastoral
Leads/Senior Staff.

Behaving in a manner that is so contrary to the school ethos and rules that the Principal and Directors
feel that the student can no longer attend Painsley Catholic College without having a detrimental impact
on the ethos/learning and/or health and safety of other students/staff
Any students with 50 negative behaviour points will not be allowed on a College trip as he/she will not
have displayed the expected level of behaviour in College to appropriately represent Painsley outside of
school. This could result in a refund not being given.
Students will be ranked based on their positive conduct points. The top 100 will be automatically
prioritised for oversubscribed school trips.
If a trip has places available after the top 100 students have been given a place, the next 50 in the
ranking will then be prioritised and a random draw will take place.
NB: Standard letters are available as outlined in the policy, via Pastoral administration support.
