Any business or company wanting to advertise in the yearbook? We are selling business ads as well. Contact Parker Smith, Business Manager. Sales for Senior Congrats for the yearbook have been extended to February 22nd Senior Project Sponsors If you are interested in acting as a Sponsor for Shaker Heights High School's Senior Project, please complete the contact form online and we will add you to our database. The Senior Project advisers will match students with potential sponsors after November

7th. It is possible that you will not be matched with a student. If you are, one of our students will contact you using the information that you provide. The information you provide will only be used to contact you regarding sponsoring a Senior Project. The Shaker Heights High School Senior Projects begin May 13, 2013 and continue

through June 6, 2013. The SHHS PTO is working with SHHS faculty to expand the list of potential sponsors. The Senior Project program gives seniors an opportunity to work with sponsors in career settings that interest them. Each student is required to have 100 project hours for the month (study hours for AP tests, varsity sports time, and other school activities count toward that total). The sponsor does not need to see the student every day and the student can shadow the sponsor or be working on a specific

project or have other goals. Students are interested in many careers including business, education, medicine, engineering, law, accounting, fashion, automotive, and many others. Additional information on the Senior Project program is available on the Shaker.org website. Click on "Our Schools," then "Shaker Heights High School,"

then "Senior Project." The Sponsor Contact Form can be found in the red menu on the left, and the Sponsor Packet (with all the guidelines) can be found on p. 23-29 of the Senior Project Manual in the blue menu on the right. If you have questions or would like to sponsor a student this spring, please contact Judy Malone, [email protected], or 295-8420, or email [email protected] "

AS YOU LIKE IT by William Shakespeare December 7 at 7 p.m. in the Large Auditorium In keeping with its long-standing co-curricular Shakespeare learning program Shaker Theatre ensures that every student has the opportunity to participate in a full Shakespeare production. This year, a company of 90+ students and adults is coming together to create AS YOU LIKE IT, one of Shakespeare's most musical and romantic comedies. To commemorate the centennial of the incorporation of the city of Shaker Heights, we're taking the 16th century French Court and reimagining it in 1912, in a place not unlike Shaker Heights. This production of AS YOU LIKE IT will be one of the most unique ways for the community to visualize what we looked like 100 years ago. You will also surely be taken by the gender bending antics of the character Rosalind, one of western literature's most notable heroines, as she disguises herself as a man and instructs Orlando in the ways of love. Add Shakespeare's poetry and wit, his nobles and clowns, and shepherds and fools, wrestling and dancing, and as the title suggests, there is something for everyone. Not to mention the lights and set, the costumes, the players, and all of the unseen hands that pull it all together and keep it

running. Directed by Department Chair Christine McBurney, the production features students in a variety of roles: performers, musicians, designers, technicians, producers, and fundraisers. The adult team includes Erik Johnson (Co-Producer), Chuck Tisdale (Technical Designer), Wendy Kriss (Choreographer), Pauline Thornton (Dramaturg),

Bruce Jennings (Composer/Arranger), Inda Blatch Geib (Costume Designer), Barrie Sandman (Box Office Manager), Evangeline Ramsay (Shaker Theatre Support Liaison) and Brendan O'Connell '12 (Stage Manager). Thanks to a generous grant from the SHHS Class of 1950-51, director Christine McBurney was able to apply to and accept a spot at The Juilliard School's first ever "Hands on Shakespeare Directing Workshop" in New York City last summer, and is now enthusiastically passing on newly learned rehearsal techniques to the cast. * At Shaker Heights High School in the newly restored and renovated Large Auditorium (15911 Aldersyde Dr). * Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior adults, and may be purchased by visiting www.tix.com in late November.

* If you are a patron at the Associate level, please call the box office to reserve your complimentary tickets at 216-295-4287. * For group rates please call the box office.

Named a center of excellence by the National Council of Teachers of English, Shaker Theatre includes daily classes in performance, playwriting, film, and theatre management, and a production season that includes four main stage performances and three "showcase" performances and events. Rugby Unofficial preseason rugby practices are underway, between 14 and 20 boys regularly attend practices. Practices are held Mondays and Wednesdays between 4 and 5:30 p.m. on the turf field, however, if it is too cold then the boys will be inside for a video session, where they will have the opportunity to watch a game from one of the European leagues from the previous weekend. Practices will continue until winter break, weather permitting, and will resume after finals.

If your son has not brought home the paper work to register for the new rugby year, this need to be done ASAP. We need to expedite this process especially the liability waivers and club dues ($30). This will ensure we can start to safely increase the contact aspect of practice and at the same time begin to order practice equipment which will improve what we are able to do at practice and make teaching the contact safer. We are also ordering team wind breakers. They will cost $20 and will provide our

boys with the needed warmth to have an enjoyable practice. I will also remind you that it is important that your boys should have a mouthguard at every practice ($1 from the athletic office). Click here for forms and windbreaker information/picture (last page). By February 20th all boys wanting to play should have also registered with rugbyohio.com. The league dues are $100, which pay USA rugby, Ohio rugby and the Rugbyohio Northeast Rugby league. In addition this will ensure we have referees and trainers at all of our games, plus there will be an insurance supplemental that would add your insurance for any rugby related injury. If you have any further questions please email Coach Gainford Cheerleaders

Meet the Author at Shaker Library Meet Maria Isabella, author of In the Kitchen with Cleveland's Favorite Chefs 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 12 at Main Library, 16500 Van Aken Boulevard. Isabella is an award-winning freelance writer and published author with more than 30 years' creative experience in the advertising, marketing, and publishing fields. She has a degree in Communication from Cleveland State University and is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, the James Beard Foundation, and Les Dames d'Escoffier. Maria is also a cooking instructor and contributes as a focus group member and recipe tester for Bon Appétit, Zagat, America's Test Kitchen, Betty

Crocker, Pillsbury, and General Mills. In the Kitchen with Cleveland's Favorite Chefs takes readers into the private kitchens of 35 local culinary greats to discover what's really cooking. Food enthusiast Maria

Isabella asked each chef to submit a recipe that could be prepared in one hour or less for last-minute entertaining. The recipes are as varied as the chefs, who represent an array of gastronomic talent - from celebrity chefs, restaurant chef/owners, and institutional chefs, to caterers, cooking instructors, and researchers. Each chef shared detailed recipes for delicious signature meals that can be prepared quickly and easily at home - 119 recipes, including a range of meat, fish, and vegetarian choices to tempt every palate, including helpful wine pairings. Accompanying each recipe are full-color photographs featuring the chefs and their culinary masterpieces. Isabella's profiles of each chef offer insights into everything from personal life stories to tips for successful

last-minute entertaining. The book lets readers mix and match the recipes to create their own customized menus. For a delicious appetizer, start with Jonathon Sawyer's Devils on Horseback or Eric Williams's Guacamole Tradicional, followed by Michael Symon's Roasted Rack of Pork with Pumpkin Puree & Cilantro Salad or Dante Boccuzzi's Mustard-Crusted Lamb Cutlets with Garbanzo Beans & Frisée for the entrée. Decadent dessert options include Jonathan Bennett's Gingered Apple Tarte Tatin, Zachary Bruell's Greek Yogurt with Berries & Honey, or Karen Small's Fig Scones. Filled with informative tips and clear step-by-step instructions using local ingredients and familiar techniques, In the Kitchen with Cleveland's Favorite Chefs gives busy home cooks and foodies alike the tools and confidence they need to entertain just like the pros. Following her program, books will be available for sale and signing. http://www.shakerlibrary.org/Library%20Events%20and%20Programs/Events.aspx?Adult Around Town

Shaker Historical Society The Shaker Historical Society installs it's third rotating exhibit, in a series of four, celebrating the Shaker Heights Centennial . Celebrating Community Spirit: Shaker Heights 1955-1980 explores the juxtaposition of prosperity and affluence in Shaker Heights with the pressing national issues of civil rights and integration, the feminists movement, the Vietnam War and the 60s counterculture revolution. This exhibit runs through December 30, 2012. Visit the Shaker Historical Society web page for information about this exhibit and other ongoing and upcoming events.

The Best of Shaker Life, A Photographic Retrospective...the People, Places, and Homes of Shaker Heights, in the Jack and Linda Lissauer Gallery from October 15, 2012 through December 30, 2012. Shaker Life, a community magazine of the city of Shaker Heights was founded in 1983 and was previously named Shaker, the Community Newsmagazine. Shaker Life is delivered to residents of the Shake Heights City School District with some additional circulation being sold on newsstands outside of the city. The photographs in this collection, from stories in the magazine about the schools, families and institutions reflect the values that make Shaker Heights a remarkable place. As the photographs reveal, it is the People themselves who inspire and delight. While Shaker residents are often united in their core beliefs about education, responsibility and service, they also personify multiculturalism. The diversity of the population of the city, its professions, passions and backgrounds is one of the community's greatest strengths.

Urban planners strive to create Places. The photographs in this exhibit show Shaker locations we are drawn to. Shaker's natural beauty, its parks and green spaces are places one will likely find beauty, inspiration or a welcoming and friendly face. Among shared values of Shaker Heights residents are an appreciation for, and a dedication to protect and preserve the extraordinary architecture which defines

Shaker's Homes. The photographs highlight some of the more exceptional examples and speak to the vision of the city's founders, who mandated that homes at all price ranges be constructed of the best materials, designed by noted architects of the day, and conform to one of only a few architectural styles. The exhibit can be seen during regular Museum hours.
