NOVEMBER 2019
From the Grand Knight …
It is hard to believe it is already November! First, I
want to thank everyone who volunteered their
time during the busy month of October. From
working fish fries and LeClaire Parkfest to praying
for an end to abortion at Hope Clinic and being
present for a Chalice ceremony for a deceased
member, your time and efforts are greatly
appreciated! There are two special shout outs I
want to give. First, I wish to thank Jason and
Lindsey Jones for sharing their experiences as a
military family and their pilgrimage to Warriors to
Lourdes during our annual Columbus Day
Banquet! I am very humbled and appreciative of
you sharing your experiences and faith journey
with our council! Second, I wish to recognize the
organizers and volunteers of our LeClarie Parkfest
food booth! The team brought in gross sales of
over $1,900 and completely sold out before the
end of Parkfest. Great job!
For November, we have another action-packed
month! On Monday, November 11, the council and
Assembly #0225’s Honor Guard will proudly march
and carry our Nation’s flag in Edwardsville’s annual
Veterans Day Parade. I encourage you to look
over the council event calendar at the end of this
newsletter for all of November’s planned events
and see what programs your council has for Faith,
Family, Community and Life!
Thank you and God Bless,
Ryan Fitzpatrick, Grand Knight

Family of the Month
For November, we salute Brian Jones and Nathan Kreke as council #1143’s Knights of the Month! Brian and Nathan have chaired the LeClaire Parkfest food both for the past four years. Also, Brian and Nathan both volunteer their time on the council’s fish fry teams. Additionally, Brian chairs the council’s annual Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest at our local Catholic schools. Nathan also serves as the St. Boniface School Athletic Director. Thank you Brian and Nathan for all you do for the council and our community!
For November, we recognize Clyde and Melinda Nosser as our Family of the Month. Clyde and Melinda were instrumental in chairing the 40 Days for Life Campaign at St. Boniface, organizing volunteers to pray at Hope Clinic for an end to abortion. They also coordinate Eucharistic Adoration, which is held in the St. Boniface chapel the first week of every month. Additionally, Clyde serves as the faith formation coordinator at St. Boniface. Thank you Nosser family for all that you do!

A Helping Hand
As Thanksgiving approaches at the end of the month, I like to take stock of all the things I’m thankful
for.
It‘s easy to say family and friends, those are blessings; and we sometimes take them for granted…but
how about the little things in life. It might be that smile you get from person who hands you your cup of
coffee in the morning, it may be relishing the crisp air on an autumn day. It may be a simple stroll in
the park marveling at God’s nature abounding. Maybe it’s the joy of helping our older members and
their spouses. All little things to be thankful for.
When I think about helping our older members and their spouses, I often wonder just how many of
them have taken advantage of help that they might need as they age. Some won’t be able to do the
simple activities of daily living. They’ll need assistance, and with our mobile society may not have a
relative nearby to help. That’s where our Knights of Columbus Long Term Care Insurance plan might
help.
Many people don’t know how a long-term care insurance policy helps cover the costs of care when the
policy holder has a chronic medical condition, a disability or a disorder such as Alzheimer’s disease. You
can receive care in your home, a nursing home, an assisted living facility, or an adult day care center.
LTC insurance helps protect all those assets you’ve worked so hard for over the years: your house,
IRAs, savings, investments. They could all be wiped out with even a short stay in a nursing home. The
website: https://longtermcare.acl.gov/costs-how-to-pay/costs-of-care.html says that Home Health Care
costs about $22/hour, Assisted Living Facilities about $4,245 per month and Nursing Home $85,000 per
year. More expensive areas of the country are more than that. Without LTC insurance many families
would face a serious financial crisis.
Most people aren’t eager to talk about long term care; but it’s important to have a plan. Many people
want to wait until they are in their 60s or 70s before they start to consider long term care. But at
younger ages it’s more likely you can qualify…and the price is less expensive when you’re younger.
I can help design a plan to fit your needs…and your budget. With that you can have peace of mind that
you will get the care you need, when you need it and where you want it.
Let’s talk and see how you can protect your assets.
Vivat Jesus!
Happy Thanksgiving!
