“BOXINN”

Humans living on earth still believe that there are some planets out there waiting to

be discovered. Well, here is a story about one planet known as The Christmas, the

name sounds very familiar but the things that occur there are quite amazing.

The Christmas was a planet covered with snow, her streets littered with all sorts of

gifts and trees glowing with colorful fireballs; this planet unlike many others didn‟t

need light from the sun, the tress on planet Christmas looked like fruits that

twinkled with different bright colors such as blue, red, orange, pink, yellow, green

and mixtures of many others.





A stranger from earth would think they were glowing balls of oranges, apples,

pineapples, pears and mangos because of the dazzling color they illuminated.

The gifts on planet Christmas were occasionally arranged by creatures called the

Snowlings, these were little creatures that always had cheerful smiles on their faces,

four bulging eyes lined up vertically on their forehead, these eyes darted to and fro

whenever they arranged gifts which would be sent to various worlds, their father,

the Father Christmas, wouldn‟t be happy if they lost any present. It would be unfair

for children living on various planets not to receive the gifts named on their list.

These cheerful creatures were one foot tall with skin as white as snow and as thick

as the bark of a tree; perhaps this was to prevent cold from getting to them since

the Christmas was always covered with snow and ice; this was because the sun was

millions of miles away from it.

The wonderful thing about these Snowlings was that they worked as a team,

sometimes singing, dancing and had never quarreled with each other despite the

fact that their favorite game was throwing ice balls at themselves, and the one with

the highest point would be celebrated before they went to sleep. They always

flashed a wonderful smiles, revealing those set of teeth made for chewing carrots,

like those of a earthly rabbits, they loved carrots because it couldn‟t be cult ivated

on planet Christmas, Father Christmas usually returned with plenty carrots each

time he visited planet Earth.





They sang melodious songs with the voices of infants as they threw more and more

gifts into the bag that never seemed to fill up.

Snowlings sometimes sang for Father Christmas whenever he returned from his trip

to different planets. Their version of the Jingle bell was his favorite.

Father Christmas had two siblings Boxinn and Eve. Unlike Father Christmas who was

very old with white hair, slight bald head, always clad in red attire with a chariot of

antelopes, Boxinn loved to wear blue garments, his hair yellow and curly like the

wool from a sheep‟s skin, which were so long they reached his swollen stomach. As

for his small button-like eyes, they were blue, his lips wide and thin. Boxxin had the

habit of quarrelling with the Snowlings because they always disturbed his long rests

with their music.





Eve was the solitary kind who had many similar white gowns; despite their multiple

eyes, the Snowlings could hardly notice when she changed her white gowns, she was

very beautiful, her eyes were wine red, which glittered like rubies and enabling her

see clearly in the dark, her hair was almost whiter than snow. She loved to play on

the snow fields and the cold had no effect on her skin unlike Boxinn who always

ensured that his feet and hands were properly covered.

Boxinn was never happy because he had not traveled to the most beautiful planet in

the universe: the planet Earth. He had always pleaded to accompany Father

Christmas on his long trip to planet Earth but Father Christmas would not let him but

rather sent Boxinn to Pluto, the farthest planet from sun, Boxinn wasn‟t friendly to

Plutonian children because they had long and sharp ears which could hear sounds

coming from long distances, their eyes were very large like those of people wearing

round dark glasses. He had seen pictures of people from an unknown planet wearing

dark glasses in one of Father Christmas‟s return bag. The next planet to Pluto was

Neptune and the children from this terrible region were always cold they usually

requested for blankets and fire lamps, yet many would request for battery powered

lamps so they could play with lights.





Boxinn was meant to go to the planet Uranus but he was tired of visiting cold planets

and playing with children who made silly cries and nagged every now and then for

blankets and torches, they would complain that the batteries of the lamps which had

been brought the previous year had completely discharged. He was tired, he had

seen pictures of the children and places in planet called Earth, they were the most

beautiful things he‟d ever seen. Father Christmas said there were times that rain

would fall, at times it would snow, while some occasions the sun would bake the

terrains of the earth. Boxinn had never heard of a more complete planet.

Boxinn‟s heart desire was to visit planet earth at all cost, he was even planning to

take his goat alone with him, a pet which Father Christmas had brought to him all

the way from earth when she was still a kid, now she had grown and adapted to the

cold temperature of Christmas land, the only difference between other goats and

she that she had lost almost all the hair on her body and she loved to eat from the

branches of the short tress that produced glowing fruits. She was Christmas goat.

Boxinn knew Father Christmas would be resting from a trip to Mars. The Snowlings

were busy going through the wish-list sent from the children of planet earth, for

they needed to get everything ready before Father Christmas woke from his sleep.

Meanwhile, Boxinn was searching for his sister, Christmas Eve, he knew she would be

somewhere decorating trees with some of the gifts that Father Christmas brought





home. Apart from singing, relaxing or playing in the snow, that was what she loved

to do. Decoration was simply her hobby. Boxinn found Christmas Eve singing besides

a tree she was beautifying and he knew that she was too busy to notice him when he

would saddle Christmas goat and start off a ride to the planet Earth.





Now he knew his sister wouldn‟t be a distraction, he would find the map of planet

Earth which father Christmas had hidden for many centuries, Boxinn believed that

the map ought to be around somewhere since Father Christmas intended visiting

planet Earth any moment before Father Christmas woke up. He had to hurry or else

he would lose his opportunity.

He couldn‟t believe his eyes when he saw the map besides Father Christmas‟s pillow,

perhaps he must have been gazing at it before he dozed off. Boxinn stooped,

thinking of how he would steal the map without waking the old man, he mastered

enough courage and stepped forward then took it away from the slumbering. It was

very easy. This was the luckiest time of his entire life.

It was time to get the gifts ready for those wonderful Earthly children. He saw a busy

Snowling then snatched the wish list away from it and ordered the others to quickly

pack the gifts into another small bag that could also contain more than a million

gifts. They refused because they knew he was not meant to go to earth and to make

this worse, Boxinn had never been nice to them.

Knowing they would cause trouble or worse wake Father Christmas if he stayed any

longer, Boxinn quickly saddled on the only creature that obeyed him, his dear

Christmas goat, and they began the journey to planet earth.





Few hours later, with the help of a shooting star which the goat had they reached

the planet Earth. He wasn‟t tired because he had traveled farther distances than

planet earth. He got excited when he caught a glimpse of the lovely world, planet

earth. He just couldn‟t wait to descend upon the atmosphere. He watched planet

earth gently rotate as hours drifted and days rolled past. Christmas goat declined

itself from the shooting star and started towards the atmosphere.





The goat had been sweating heavily because she wasn‟t used to the heat that

emitted from the sun. Boxinn soon began to feel warm, but quickly forgot about the

heat as he beheld the beauty and splendor of the oceans, the vegetation, the hills,

forest and landscape.





The trees were beautiful although they did not produce light like those on planet

Christmas. He had the list but he didn‟t have any gift. He pinched himself for

forgetting the gifts and he knew Father Christmas couldn‟t come to earth because he

didn‟t have the map. What was he going to tell those children when they saw him?

He knew that this visit to planet earth was out of selfish interest and not because he

wanted to distribute gifts. He hadn‟t gotten to where there were humans, yet he

was so excited. He didn‟t understand why he and Christmas goat were sweating so

much, his hands were shaking too. He thought that that was how people felt when

they were happy on earth.





They landed on vast green vegetation but Christmas goat was still sweating. This was

serious, imagine a goat without fur. Anyway Boxinn wasn‟t bothered, he moved to a

shade beneath a large tree so they could rest.

Little did Boxinn and his perspiring Christmas goat know that they were resting at

the site the villagers were planning to have a bonfire. It was evening on earth unlike

the Christmas planet where it was difficult to differentiate day and night.

That evening, Christmas goat was the first to wake, Boxinn‟s loud snore must have

attracted the villagers there.

A crowd had gathered watching Boxinn as he snored. They were all surprised at his

appearance his appearance. Did Father Christmas crash-land here? They didn‟t want

to believe that the popular Father Christmas was a rough rider. Why is he wearing a

blue robe? Maybe he sacked his tailor and got another. Why does he have yellow

beard? They wondered. That question was hard to figure out. Never had they seen

such a mockery of Father Christmas.

Someone said, “I guess Father Christmas is having a bad day. What a robe and a

hairdo?”





“It doesn‟t seem like Father Christmas had a nice ride and why is that goat sweating

like that?” A chubby man who was in the midst of the crowd shouted out loud so he

would wake Boxinn.

It worked.

Boxinn, still feeling a bit drowsy from the long journey looking at the crowd said

“Merry Christmas!”

A young girl licking ice-cream tried not to laugh so she asked, “Are you a clown?”

Boxinn being surprised asked, “What is a clown?”

The chubby cut in before the little girl could speak again, “a clown looks just like

you so please stop pretending we know you are a clown and we admire the kind of

show you are putting up here, there are not that many talented clowns anymore.”

Boxinn said, “I am sorry if you have mistaken me for something or someone else, I

am Boxinn,” he stood from his resting position and continued, “I am the younger

brother of Father Christmas, I believe you know who he is?”

The chubby man continued, “Sure we do, you mean the one you are pretending to

be?”





The little girl had finished her ice cream, she said, “Since you‟re Father Christmas‟

brother, I sent him a wish list, did you come with my gift?

Boxinn was embarrassed. He didn‟t come with any gift, no one could believe he was

from planet Christmas. He was simply dumb founded. “I can show you the map I

used in locating planet earth.” He said, stammering.

“I still don‟t understand why this goat is sweating so heavily.” The chubby man said,

already tired of the joke he felt Boxinn was playing.

By then it was already getting late and they hadn‟t even prepared for the bonfire.

They felt the clown had been given enough attention. They started leaving

gradually.

Boxinn was disappointed when he searched for the map and realized that his beloved

Christmas goat had eaten it up and left pieces that couldn‟t be. How was he going to

return to planet Christmas? If had known he would have followed the stars when he

was coming. He would think about that later.

Boxinn screamed at them, “Wait!”





Some had gone while others including the chubby man and the little girl turned to

pay attention to him for the last time hoping he was going to say something more

sensible this time around.





“I am sorry I did not come with any gift today. But on my way back I will ask a

shooting star to ask you beautiful people of planet earth to give each other gifts.

You will tell my story and remember the day the shooting star will write those words

as Boxinn day.”

“And if the shooting star doesn‟t?” The chubby man replied.

“Well then, you know I am not from planet Christmas. Just make sure you give

someone a gift in that day.”

Boxinn climbed on Christmas goat as they began their journey home, a way that they

weren‟t sure that would be remembered.

By the time they left planet earth, he saw a wishing star then he asked to wish star

to write a message everyone on planet earth could see.

The wishing star did and this is what it wrote.

This is Boxinn day and because Father Christmas couldn‟t make it this year it would

be nice for you to give at least one person a gift.
