Our adventure begins at theUCD campus in sight of theRTEtransmitterwhichresemblesourfinaldestination,theEiffelTower.Anearlymorningstarttakesusoutofthecitywithouttheworryof traffic.Soonweare in thebeautifulCoWicklowcountrysidewheretheroadsareneverflat.Therouteavoidsthe busymain roads turning inlandonhedge lined smallroadswherewefacethemostdemandingsectionofthetripin theWicklowMountainswith the option of a diversionover SallyGap to bag Ireland’s highest road.DescendingbacktothecoastwepassthebeautifulbeachesofBrittasBaywhereyoucanstopforaswim.ContinuingonawonderfulroadrightbythecoastwereachourhotelinArklowwherewestaytonight.

Monday18thJuneArklowtoRosslare-85km
ThisistheshortestdayasweleaveArklowandfollowthecoast toWexford town passing Curracloe whose beacheswereusedasthesetforthefilmingtheDDaylandingscenesinSavingPrivateRyan.Tomorrowwecyclepasttheactualbeaches.AfterlunchwecycletotheFerryPortatRosslare.Hereweboardtheferrywithourbikes.Wehavetimetorelaxinourcabinsbeforedinner.WewakeupinFrenchterritorialwatersnextmorninganddisembarkatCherbourg.
Day3
Tuesday19thJuneCherbourgtoBayeux-108km
Wehavealongbutgentleclimbawayfromtheportafterweleavetheboat.HoweveryouwillnoticetheimprovementintheroadsurfaceshereinFrancemakingformorepleasantaswellaseasiercycling.OurroutetakesusonsmalllowtrafficroadsthroughdairyfarmsofspottedcowstothefamousNormandybeaches.ThelunchstoptodayisatUtahBeachwhereyouwillhavetimetoviewthemuseumtotheDDaylandings.Cyclingsouthwestinlandonmainlyflatbackroadsthroughfarmlandswereachourdestinationforthenight,themediaevaltownofBayeux.Thetowniswellknownforitstapestrywhichis70mlonganddepicts theeventsof theNormanConquestofBritainin1066.ThereisalsoanimpressiveRomanesquecathedraldatingbackto1077inthetown.

Wednesday20thJuneBayeuxtoEvreux-168km
Thisisourlongestdayaswerideonquietfarmroadsthroughwideopenwheatfields,passingthroughhalftimberedvillagesinthehomeofCalvados,skirtingaroundthecityofCaenavoidingthebusyroads.ContinuingintotheEureregionwecrossthefarmlandswhichproduceCamembertcheesetoarriveattheregionscapitalEvreuxwherewestaytonight.

Thursday21stJuneEvreuxtoParis-105km
Todaythereisacelebratoryfeelingthatthejobisalmostdone,justamere105kmtotheEiffeltower.The route takes us initially through quiet valleys andwoodedareasbeforearrivinginVersaillesontheoutskirtsofParis.WepassthegildedwonderthatisthePalaceofVersaillesbeforeleavingthetraffictorideontrafficfreeroadsthroughforestsandparkstogetourfirstviewoftheEiffeltower.CyclingthroughtheBoisdeBoulognepasttheLongchampsRace course to the Trocadero we have protected cyclelanesmostofthewaytotheEiffelTowerwherewefinishour ride with a celebratory drink. Our hotel is locatedcentrallyjustminutesfromthefinish.Herewehaveafinalcelebratorydinnertonightbeforeheadingouttosamplethenightlifeofthisiconiccity.

Afterarelaxingbreakfastwewillbemakingourway home. Your bike has already been carefullypackedintooneofourvansfortheferryjourneyhomewhereitwillmeetyouthere.
