THE RESPONSE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from a Brief Statement of Faith) In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, Whom alone we worship and serve… In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.

DOXOLOGY 592 Old HundredthPraise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below;Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

INVITATION TO OFFERING

OFFERTORY ANTHEM Johannes Brahms“Geistliches Lied, op. 30”

Laß dich nur nichts nicht dauren mit Trauren, sei stille, wie Gott es fügt, so sei vergnügt mein Wille! Was willst du heute sorgen auf morgen? Der Eine steht allem für, der gibt auch dir das Deine. Sei nur in allem Handel ohn Wandel, steh feste, was Gott beschleußt, das ist und heißt das Beste. Amen. —Paul Fleming (1609-1640)Do not be sorrowful or regretful; Be calm, as God has ordained, and thus my will shall be content. What do you want to worry about from day to day? There is One who stands above all who gives you, too, what is yours. Only be steadfast in all you do, stand firm; what God has decided, that is and must be the best. Amen.

PRAYER OF ADORATION AND THE LORD’S PRAYER PRAYER OF CONFESSION Keeper of Heaven and earth, You are the guardian of our coming and going

forth, of our times of tender reflection and our moments of turmoil. Our lives are fragile and precious gifts from You. All too often we take them and each other for granted. We replace wonder with cynicism and hope with despair. We lose sight of Your promises to us and we fail to trust in You. Deepen for us the meaning of the resurrection, that we not only speak words of transformation but embody those words in our life. Healer, Renewer, Sustainer, Source of hope and joy, we lay down our imperfection before Your perfectly loving heart. Amen.
