PSALM 1:1-6, PSALM 1:1-6, (NIV)(NIV)

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Page 4: The Old Testament - Life = Wisdom

PSALM 1:1-6, PSALM 1:1-6, (NIV)(NIV)

He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.

Page 5: The Old Testament - Life = Wisdom

PSALM 1:1-6, PSALM 1:1-6, (NIV)(NIV)

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

THE TWO TREES

Page 9: The Old Testament - Life = Wisdom

GENESIS 2:9-10, 15-17 GENESIS 2:9-10, 15-17 (NIV)(NIV)

The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil….

Page 10: The Old Testament - Life = Wisdom

GENESIS 2:9-10, 15-17 GENESIS 2:9-10, 15-17 (NIV)(NIV)

The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

DEUTERONOMY 30:19-20 DEUTERONOMY 30:19-20 (NIV)(NIV)

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him

JOSHUA 24:14-16, 18-20 JOSHUA 24:14-16, 18-20 (NIV)(NIV)

“Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness… But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods (of Egypt)….or in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD….”

Page 20: The Old Testament - Life = Wisdom

JOSHUA 24:14-16, 18-20 JOSHUA 24:14-16, 18-20 (NIV)(NIV)

Then the people answered, “Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods…!

We too will serve the LORD, because he is our God.” Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD. He is a holy God; he is a jealous God. He will not forgive your rebellion and your sins….”

Page 21: The Old Testament - Life = Wisdom

JOSHUA 24:14-16, 18-20 JOSHUA 24:14-16, 18-20 (NIV)(NIV)

“….If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, he will turn and bring disaster on you and make an end of you, after he has been good to you.” But the people said to Joshua, “No! We will serve the LORD.”
