One more hour for fun!Daylight Saving Time comes this weekend, a

surefire sign that spring is eventually going tocome to Ohio. At 2 a.m. local time on March 8,clocks will "spring forward" one hour.

The amount of daylight hours will grow longerwhile the night time hours are shorter. So for thosewho prefer sleep - you are out of luck.

Daylight savings time was first usedby Germany during World War I asa way to conserve energy. The goalwas to take advantage of the daylighthours in spring by moving an addi-tional hour of daylight from the morn-ing to the evening and not lettingpeople sleep through the first few hoursof sunshine. America didn't adopt apolicy until 1966, except for Arizona

and Hawaii. When your sleep-wake and light-dark cycles are out of

sync, it can make you feel tired and downright grumpy. In winter, I simply want to go to bed much earlier andwill welcome the extra hour of evening daylight. Longerdaylight hours allow for more choices of places to go,things to do and people to see. This month, Dublin is thechosen city as it is known for it’s many St. Patrick’s Dayactivities. See our feature of the month article on pages8-9. So paint the town “green” and start with the differ-ent offerings listed in this issue.

With a little bit of luck from the Irish, who knows? Youjust might find your pot o’ gold at the end of your rain-bow - a rewarding getaway weekend is in order to alucky winner from those who share their St. PatricksDay plans with us by filling out the monthly getawayform on the home page of our website.

And if you're not a fan of DST and the longer daysahead, you'll just have to wait until November 1. That'swhen we "fall back" one hour to regular time and talkabout those cozy winter nights in front of the fireplace, drinking hot chocolate or watching a good movie.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!Kathy Barnett, Managing Editor
