Message from Noel Lanier

April showers bring May flowers. It also brought our state a wide path of destruction from the worst outbreak of tornadoes in NC since the 1980s. The weather also put a damper on the annual Rims to the River show and forced a show in Holly Springs to reschedule.

Shifting gears (no pun intended) though, April was a good month for change experienced by PCCC members. Over 40 members attended the March business/dinner meeting at The Golden Corral. A big thanks to David Ward Jones for coordinating this new change. PCCC will be saying “good-bye” to the Jaycee Center and “hello” to Bobby Murray Chevrolet beginning with this month’s business meeting. Thanks to Marshall Wheeler for handling this change on short notice.

PCCC members did come out in great numbers at two events during April. Member David Matthews got enough members to caravan to Rocky Mount and helped the Club receive $200. And, over 12 members attended the Cleveland Draft House show and four members took home awards.

Don’t forget it’s not too late to seek those business sponsorships for the Annual PCCC Car Show on May 28th at Lake Wheeler !!!!

Remember, BE SAFE and HAPPY CRUISIN’.

Our Upcoming 2011 Memorial Weekend Car Show—By Don Mende

The other day I read this article about how a local non profit organization just like ours arranged to send a bunch of US Veterans to Washington.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Veterans of World War II and other wars spent Wednesday in Washington, D.C., visiting the memorials built for their service, thanks to the nonprofit group Triangle Flight of Honor. Among the 100 local veterans being honored were a Pearl Harbor survivor, two Silver Star winners, two veterans of WWII and the Korean and Vietnam wars, and a set of three brothers from Johnston County who served in the South Pacific. They spent the day touring the war memorials and other monuments in D.C.

The full story can be read on the Club’s Facebook page thanks to Amy.

What a wonderful thing this group did for guys that gave so much for us all.

Our annual car show is on Memorial Day weekend (Saturday May 28, 2011) and our major goals are:

Have a good time in our hobby and raise money for The Hill Top Home for Children

A special recognition of our Veterans in attendance Our annual car show is our only significant event to raise money for The Hill Top Home for Children and at the same time a way to honor the men and women that have made the sacrifice to keep our Country free. It‘s Memorial Day weekend and there will be US flags flying everywhere at our show. Having a couple of hundred

classic cars flying old glory should be a real photo op for sure.

Please put May 28th on your calendar and come help us put on our car show, it takes a small army to do a car show right. While we won‘t raise enough money to send 100 Veterans to Washington, the money we do raise is life saving for the 40

special needs children at The Hill Top Home, can‘t get much better than that.

There are car shows every weekend and it‘s hard to stand out in the crowd. I want our attendees to experience a feeling of pride in our Country and to associate that feeling with The PCCC‘s annual car show. I‘m confident that with your help we are

on the right track to accomplish that goal this year and into the future.

Thx, see y‘all at the show

David Smith’s TECHNICAL TID BITS

Please submit all technical article ideas to be considered for the newsletter to David Smith (Newsletter Technical Editor) @ [email protected]

I got belted last weekend, no not that my Monte got new belts. My a/c belt decided

it did not want to be part of the threesome so it decided to break out. I was just

going to change the A/C belt because the alternator and power steering looked

good, then I remembered what my Uncle (he was a GM Mechanic for 33 years) had

once told me. "If you change just one I will be happy to tear it apart again in a few

weeks to replace the others." Excellent advice, if you have one bad belt and the

others look good change them anyway and keep the two that look good for

spares. You never know when you or a friend may need it. Changing belts is a time

consuming project and is better done all at once. If you are changing an A/C or a

power steering belt they have to come off anyway for most cars.

So save yourself a headache down the road, new belts are a fairly cheap peace of

mind.

As always "Keep the Shiny Side Up and the Dirty Side Down"

Dave
