THE TEAM 2019/20 SQUAD
Alex Cull On loan from Premier League side Southampton FC. The excellent young goalkeeping prospect has represented England at youth level.
Alex Haynes Last seasons players’ player of the season. He’s one of our own after stepping up from the youth team. Former England schools player Alex has impressed everyone at the club.
Matt Bozier Signed permanently after three loan spells from Aldershot FC, the classy defender will look to get a full season under his belt.
Robin Nicholls Our experienced midfielder entering his third season having played southern league football for a host of top sides.
Jack Smith Last season ever present centre back adds game knowledge and steal to the side. Entering his 3rd full season, the Eastleigh FC Academy coach brings a wealth of experience.
Adam McWilliam New arrival the former Montrose player has plenty of skill and quality. Will be looking to add goals from midfield to the team.
Jack Masterton The skipper and our silky skilled lefty who’s also entering his 3rd season. Jack can play anywhere, but don’t ask him to head the ball.
Craig Feeney Known affectionately as ‘Mr Totton’ or ‘Goals’. Feens is a regular goal-scorer at this level. He uses his pace and strength very well, scored some cracking goals in a Stags shirt.
Silvano Obeng Arrived from Team Solent after 3 very good seasons. Silv brings good physicality and work-rate to the side, as well and being a cool finisher.
Oli Bradley The wideman has impressed the players and staff and this season promises to be a good year for the rapid attacker.
Liam Callaghan Arrived from Eastleigh Fc, the young attacker has experience at Southern league level and will excite our supporters.
Connor York has re-joined the Stags from Moneyfields after leaving the Snows Stadium last summer to join the Portsmouth based club. Connor originally joined the Stags on loan from AFC Bournemouth in 2017, but after his release from the Cherries in 2018 Connor signed for the Stags for the 2018/19 campaign.Tactically schooled in a number of positions his energy and skill were utilised down the right hand side in his previous spell at the Snows stadium.
Matt Hall Understudy to Alex, and again on loan from Southampton FC, the big stopper made his debut at 16 for the Stags.
Mitchell Byrne The talented young centre back arrived from team Solent having played 2 seasons for the Wessex Premier side before reaching 18.
Dave Allen Club captain and a massive part of the football club for the last 4 seasons. The striker turned defender is the ultimate team player.
Liam Farrugia Dual signed from Conference South outfit Weymouth, Liam is a player we can use in a number of positions. Great athleticism and a winner.
James Matthews James broke into the squad last season while playing for our U18’s. He’ll dual sign with neighbours Totton & Eling as we progress him further.
Will Archer The young defender arrived from college football and the well run programme at Sparsholt. His first season in senior football and Will is expected to do very well.
Bristol Manor Farm Football Club was formed for the 1960/'61
season before disbanding and reforming for the start of the
1962/'63 campaign.
Our ground here at ‘The Creek’ used to be the site of the Port of
Bristol Authority Sports & Social Club. In 1965 when the authority
moved to new premises, Manor Farm took it over, making it our
permanent home.
Having a base of our own enabled the club to apply successfully to
join the Somerset Senior League where we made good progress
through the divisions. In 1977 the club decided to step up to the
Western League, joining the First Division for the start of the
1977/'78 season.
The Club were crowned Division 1 Champions for 1982/'83 and
since that promotion to the Premier Division of the Western
League Bristol Manor Farm have played most of our football at
that level.
The last decade at the club has certainly been the most ambitious
period of our history.
An exciting run during the 2010/11 FA Cup competition saw us win
a penalty shoot-out against Almondsbury Town and hold
Basingstoke Town to a draw before being pipped by a single goal
in the replay.
2011/'12 was the most successful season in the history of the club
to that date. We won the GFA Challenge Trophy after beating
Shortwood United 5-0 in a thrilling final and this was followed three
days later with another cup triumph when we beat Willand Rovers
in extra time to finally lift the Les Phillips Cup.
We lost the GFA Trophy Final to Bristol Academy in 2012/'13
however and finished third from bottom of the Premier Division.
After good service to the club, Manager John Black decided it was
time to stand down.
The start of the 2013/14 season saw the beginning of a new era at Bristol Manor Farm FC when current boss
Lee Lashenko took over the Manager's job. Fresh from winning the title with Bishop's Sutton, Lashenko quickly
made an impact with Manor Farm.
An FA Cup run that saw us put nine goals past Oldland Abbotonians and then seven past Lymington Town
quickly brought us to the attention of the national press. The tabloid photographers had a field day down at The
Creek – photographing the team with the FA Cup and a variety of 'farmyard' accessories and costumes – it was
a brilliant and fun day that everyone here will never forget! The First Round Qualifying Round tie against
Corsham Town then ended in a 4‐4 draw with Manor Farm winning the hard fought replay 1-0. We then also
held Bridgwater Town to a 4-4 draw in the next round before narrowly going out 2-1 in the replay.

In 2014-2015 Bristol Manor Farm missed out on promotion to the Southern League by 3 points, allowing
Slimbridge to go up instead. We did win the GFA County Challenge Trophy however with a 2‐0 win over local
club Shirehampton.
During an epic 2015/2016 season an heroic run in the FA Vase took us to within sniffing distance of Wembley
with a notable comeback win in the fifth round, overcoming Sunderland RCA 3-2 and a long return trip to the
North-East for a Quarter Final showdown with Morpeth Town. On a heavy pitch The Portwaymen were unlucky
to go out with Morpeth scoring a breakaway goal in the dying seconds after Farm had laid virtual siege to The
Highwaymen's goal throughout the second half. Morpeth went on to beat Hereford FC 4-1 in the showpiece
Wembley final.
The many highlights of Manor Farm's triumphant 2016/17 season will be forever woven into the fabric of the
club's history as we finally secured that elusive promotion to the Southern League in emphatic style, amassing
102 points and scoring over 100 goals on the way to being crowned as Western League Champions.
We also unluckily missed out on a second FA Vase Quarter Final in succession with another narrow 2-1 defeat
in a fifth round tie in front of 1,500 partisan fans at Bromsgrove Sporting FC.
An extraordinary unbeaten league run of 21 games between September and March (19 wins and 2 draws) went
a long way to securing the coveted league title for Manor Farm however, which was eventually clinched with
three games to spare following a 2-0 win at local rivals Hallen on Good Friday.
Subsequently our debut in the Southern League last season saw Manor Farm emerge as the 'third team in
Bristol' - behind only 'The Robins' and 'The Gas' as the top-rated non-league team in the city. This was
reflected once again on another glittering night at Ashton Gate when we won the Bristol Post 'Team of the Year'
award and Lee Lashenko was also a popular winner in the 'Coach of the Year' category.
The team hit the ground running with a dramatic opening day victory away at North Leigh, overcoming a 2-0
deficit inside the first twenty minutes with an emphatic 5-2 comeback win. We occupied a top six berth for all
but the season's final fortnight until narrow defeats to promoted champions Taunton Town and second-placed
Salisbury helped push us agonisingly out of the play-off picture on a dramatic final day of the regular season.
The 2018/19 season started with a good run in the FA Cup reaching the 3rd Qualifying round where we took
South Conference side Slough Town to a replay after drawing 2-2 at Slough only to lose 4-0 in the replay, from
this point on our season was disappointing finishing only 6th from the bottom of the table with 46 points.

PLAYER PROFILES Ben John. Goalkeeper – This is Ben’s second
season at the farm after playing at Bitton in the Western League. Prior to that he had many seasons at a higher level, Ben is a lively character and adds plenty of passion to his team mates in front of him.
Stuart Tovey. Defender – Stuart is a seasoned Southern League player who has also played at Paulton Rovers, Chippenham Town & Larkhall Athletic, he has strength in depth as a defender and can play in midfield too.
Tyler Ashmead. Defender – This is Tyler’s first season at the Farm after playing at Clevedon Town last season, this young lad has massive potential and will help strengthen our defence.
Jack Durrant. Midfield – Jack is a workhorse in midfield and his vision and ability to pass a short or long ball is just amazing, he is also a great ball winner. Jack has played for Cheltenham Town in the past as well as other clubs above the Western league level.
Steve Kingdon. Defender – Steve turned professional with Bristol Rovers where he was for 2 seasons, he has also played at Clevedon Town, Taunton Town and was captain of promotion winning Tiverton Town. Steve is a very solid centre back with a great vision and understanding of the game.
Jordan Metters. Attacking Midfielder – Jordan is such a gifted and talented player, not only does he create chances for others but he scores a lot of goals himself whether being inside or outside the box. Has a tremendous vision and passing accuracy.
Ashley Kington. Midfield – After leaving Bristol City, Ashley has played at Bath City and Weston Super Mare, Ashley is a quality central midfielder that has every attribute that is needed to help the club and his team mates to progress to the next level.
Joe Tumelty. Striker – Joe joined the Farm this season, Joe has enjoyed playing at Hereford United & Frome Town before returning to Hereford FC, last season Joe was injured most of the season whilst at Evesham United.
Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist. Striker – Lewis joined the Farm this season after being at Bristol Rovers last season and going out on loan at Yate Town and Hungerford, he is a very quick and a very intelligent player and will add extreme quality to the team as well as create and score goals.
Lloyd Mills. Defender/Midfield - Big Lloyd can play either as centre back or in central midfield, either way he gives 100% to the cause, he has proved to be a big asset to the team over the past seasons.
Jamie Adams. Defender/Midfield - Jamie joined the Farm in early December 2017 from Larkhall
Athletic, he has also played for Cardiff University, Bridgwater Town and Clevedon Town so he has a massive amount of experience at this level.
Mason Winter. Defender – Mason signed for the Farm this season, he was with the Bristol Rovers academy until he was 17yrs, he has since played for Melksham Town, Cribbs and last season he was at Larkhall Athletic.
Alan Griffin. Striker – Alan joined the Farm this season from Cirencester Town, having previously played for Chippenham Town. He is a big, strong, powerful striker who knows where the goal is and leads the line well, creating chances for others
Olly Mehew. Striker – Olly joined the Farm this season from Yate Town where he was instrumental in Yate’s promotion last season. Previous clubs include Forest Green Rovers and Bristol Rovers
Aron Robbins. Defender – Aron has also played for Clevedon Town before joining the Farm, he is a seasoned left back that likes to get forward and scores goals.
Kieran Ireland. Midfield – Kieran signed for the Farm this season, he captained the Birmingham City University team and also played for Bridgwater Town & Shepton Mallet in the Western League last season.
Troy Walters. Striker – Troy played for our U18s a couple of years ago before going to the USA for a year, this young lad has speed and skill on the ball and will give any defence a hard time.
Liam Jacques. Goalkeeper – Liam was at the Southampton and Bristol City academies during his early teens, he is in his second season the our U18s team and played for AEK Boco in the Gloucestershire County League last season.
Jamie Turner. Defender – Jamie has become a great defender and continues to develop, he still full of potential and very energetic; he reads the game well and won’t make it easy for strikers.
Lee Lashenko. Manager – also known as Laz, this is his 7th season at the Farm where he lead the team to 2nd place, 4th Place, 3rd place and then as champions of the Western League before being promoted into the Southern League in season 2017-2018.
Iain Harvey. Assistant Manager – Iain was at Swindon Town many years ago before spending 10 years at Chippenham Town, he joined the Farm in 2017 as a player coach and continues to do these roles.
Mike Mahoney. Goalkeeper Coach – Mike played in goal for Newcastle United back in the 70s before finishing his career in the USA, he has spent a lot of time over the years in a coaching capacity and already made his mark with the squad.
AFC Totton faced a crucial 6-pointer against Basingstoke Town at the Simplyhealth City Stadium this afternoon. The Dragons were 19th at the start of play with 15 points, with the Stags one place above them in 18th. Totton were two points better off with a game in hand. The Dragons won another 6-pointer last week when they came away from fellow stragglers Barnstaple Town with a ‘very handy’ 2-0 win. So, they would’ve been buoyed by that. The great news for Totton was that they came away with a crucial 3-points thank’s to goals from Dave Allen and Craig Feeney.
Louis Langdown made two changes to the side that started last Saturday’s 0-0 with Larkhall, Jack Masterton reverted to left back after Matt Bozier sustained a foot injury at Larkhall, whilst Ollie Bradley came in for Connor York, who dropped to the bench, alongside Liam Callaghan, Silvano Obeng and Mitchell Byrne.
After a wet and windy week there was a 9 am pitch inspection to see if today’s game could go ahead as planned. Fortunately, the improved weather over the last 12-24 hours meant that the game was given the all-clear, albeit on a heavy pitch.
The game started with both sides venturing into one another’s territory in the opening moments, the Dragons Adam Everis put a dangerous ball across the face of the Totton goal during that period, luckily for Totton there was no Basingstoke player close enough to connect with Everiss’s cross.
On 7 minutes the Stags were in front when they won a free kick out on the left. As always Jack Masterton took the kick and floated it into the box where Dave Allen headed home unchallenged. As you will hear in the post-match interview with Dave, this goal means that 36-year-old Dave has now scored in three different decades! It’s not unique, others have done this, but there are not that many that have, so well-done Dave!
Basingstoke were territorially on top for the next 20 minutes or so, during that time Dean Stowe shot wide, Ben Cook’s weak effort was touched wide by Stags keeper ‘Aman’ (Amadeusz Skryniarz) and an overhead kick from Ryan Suckling was off target.
Totton then moved forward into the Dragons half with a decent move ending with Robin Nicholls putting in a low cross that Basingstoke keeper Aaron Watkins managed to smother.

On 37 minutes Totton had the opportunity to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty after Jack Smith was fouled in the box, from where we were stood it looked like Smith was pulled down, but I was told after the game that he was in fact ‘tripped’. The referee waiting a second or two to see if Smith was able to get in a shot on goal, but when he went down the man in the middle pointed to the spot. Craig Feeney stepped up to bag his 14th goal of the campaign by sending keeper Watkins the wrong way.
Feeney then had a half chance a moment or two later when he received a ball with his back to goal inside the area, the Stags striker then turned and got in a shot that Watkins saved.
In the last couple of moments of the 1st half there were half chances for the Dragons with Josh Edwards putting an effort wide and Ben Wilson pulling a comfy save out of ‘Aman’.

The 1st effort pf the 2nd half saw Callum Chugg skew a shot well wide, but the Dragons came back at Totton and they forced Adam McWilliam to block on the line, with a follow up effort pulling a cracking save out of ‘Aman’.
The game was becoming increasingly scrappy with the both sides having players who looked ‘Leggy’. Totton made their 1st substitution with Ollie Bradley being replaced with Liam Callaghan. Totton then forced a corner on the right that was sent into the box by Jack Masterton, it was flicked on to the back post where Allen screwed a shot wide from 8 yards.
The pitch was not conducive to play good football, and on these types of surfaces you need ‘grafters’ and the Stags had that yet again ‘in abundance’ from Alex Haynes, the young midfielders’ legs will be killing him after this game, as once again he covered copious amounts of ground. Haynes is like a little Jack Russell running around and nipping at your ankles, but that’s not all he does because the lad ‘can’ play too ‘make no mistake’.
The Stags replaced Callum Chugg with Connor York, Chugg was on a yellow card, so boss Louis Langdown was trying to ensure that he took no unnecessary risks. The home side started to make changes too, whilst Totton completed their substitutions by bringing on Silvano Obeng for Adam McWilliam on 67 minutes.
Both sides then wasted chances with Wilson putting over for the Dragons and Obeng doing likewise after a Totton break. In the closing moments Feeney had a shot gathered by Watkins, then he forced the Dragons keeper into a more difficult save, after he shot from the right-hand side of the box.

So, this was a big result for Louis Langdown and his troops. A win was vital, and to achieve that all the necessary ingredients needed to be present. This meant defending well once again and working hard on a boggy pitch. The lads gave the boss what he required and kept a 4th consecutive clean sheet in the league. I have already mentioned Alex Haynes, but there were others too who made huge contributions, for eg Robin Nicholls, Dave Allen, Jack Smith and Craig Feeney.

After the recent mishap versus Lymington Town in the Russell Cotes Cup, manager Louis Langdown took no chances in the Southampton Senior Cup quarter final at home to Locks Heath. The Stags boss named a strong line up against the Hampshire League outfit.
On paper this should have been a straight forward win BUT we know that if everybody turned up thinking it’s going to be a walk in the park then we could’ve ended up with egg on our faces. We also needed to cast our minds back to our Russell Cotes Cup tie against another Hampshire League Club ‘Fleetlands’ back in October when we got a little ahead of ourselves and only won that tie 3-1.
Fortunately, last night the players attitude was SPOT ON and the Stags ran out very comfortable winners. The scoring began after just 26 seconds when the Stags forced Locks Heath into giving the ball away just outside the box and a very grateful Adam McWilliam was the recipient and he took the ball into the box and fired low into the left hand side of the net.
To be fair to Locks Heath they responded pretty well and captain Jake Alford looked quite useful as they attempted to mount a couple of attacks. However, the next chance came for the Stags on 9 minutes when Craig Feeney fired over the bar.
Locks Heath were still trying to play there way into the game and that man Alford got in a shot on goal, but it didn’t trouble Totton keeper ‘Aman’ as it was straight at him.
Totton then forced a corner that resulted in Pip Nolan heading over, but a moment later it was 2-0 when a corner from the left was glanced goalwards by Jack Smith and despite a handball by a Locks Heath defender the ball headed for the goal line and Dave Allen touched it into the net. There was a little confusion as to whose goal it was because Smiths header looked like it might have crossed the line before Allen touched it home. Then on 18 minutes Pip Nolan made it 3-0 after McWilliam’s free kick rebounded into his path, Nolan who was wearing the No3 shirt on the night made no mistake.
On 23 minutes it should’ve been 4-0 when Alex Haynes teed up Silvano Obeng at the back post but Obeng’s effort went away from goal and it fell to Feeney, who swept the ball wide. Just a moment later the Stags did add a forth when a lovely run and cross from Connor York was brilliantly finished by Ollie Bradley.
Chances followed for McWilliam, who saw his shot saved by young Locks Heath keeper Ben Schneider, shortly afterwards Feeney sent another shot wide for the Stags, but just past the half hour mark Feeney was on hand to sweep home Totton’s 5th goal of the evening.
Silvano Obeng then saw a chance go begging when he fired over from the edge of the box. Next time around the Stags made no mistake when Obeng lifted the ball into the roof of the net from a yard out at the back post, after a ball across from the right of the area. There was just time for Allen to head over from a corner before the referee ended the 1st half.

Louis Langdown made a double change at half time, introducing Mitchell Byrne for Dave Allen and James Matthews for Alex Haynes.
Locks Heath may have been forgiven for throwing in the towel, but they came out giving it everything and they must be commended for that, and it was they who had the next chance of the game when Max Hoile forced ‘Aman’ into a save a minute after the restart.
The Stags then wasted a couple of decent chances when Feeney was one on one with Schneider and he shot straight at the keeper, then McWilliam saw a shot saved although the Scotsman made no mistake with his next attempt as he made it 7-0 after 53 minutes.
A few Locks Heath heads looked as if they were dropping and a defensive error allowed Ollie Bradley to get free and he rounded the keeper only for him to roll the ball into the side netting.
Locks Heath came again and Mario Fernandez sent a vicious shot whistling past the right hand post, it was only a few millimetres wide. Then Totton went straight up the other end and a brilliant back heel by Obeng set up Feeney, and you would have put your house on him to score this one, but he only succeeded in firing over the bar. Feeney saw another shot saved by Schneider before Obeng was also denied by the young keeper, after a lovely spin and shot from the Stags striker.
Substitute James Matthews was the next to be denied by Schneider and he was followed by McWilliam, whose effort was more straight forward for the Locks Heath keeper. Schneider was becoming the star of the show since half time, making several good saves to keep the score down. The young keeper was at it again to deny McWilliam twice, the 1st of these two saves was superb, as he tipped the Scotsman’s effort over the bar.
Pip Nolan then saw an effort saved by Schneider, as did Obeng. However, the Locks Heath keeper was beaten on 78 minutes when Obeng‘s sizzling shot went in via a post after a lovely Totton move.
The Stags were playing some lovely football and they maintained a faultless attitude, the only criticism you could make was that they had not managed to score more because they had created umpteen chances. although massive credit goes to keeper Schneider.
On 81 minutes a nasty looking foul on Obeng resulted in the last 10 minutes becoming a bit niggly. The resulting free kick from McWilliam from 25 yards out went way over the bar, much to the pleasure of one or two on the Locks Heath bench.
McWilliam then threaded a ball through to Obeng, who made it 9-0 and completed his hat-trick in the process. McWilliam then set up Nolan for a chance and Schneider made yet another save, but on 90 minutes the Stags were awarded another free kick just outside the box. That man McWilliam stepped up to take it, and this time he lifted it over the wall and into the roof of the net and it was goal no 10 for the Stags. The former Montrose player took great pleasure in competing his hat trick.

Regardless of the opposition you have to be professional in your attitude and the Totton players went about this game in the correct manner. They scored ten, but it is no exaggeration to say that it really could have been twenty-nil. The main reason that it wasn’t was Locks Heath keeper Ben Schneider, who came out of this game with great credit.

HEARD the one about the football team that have to play 16 games away and only eight at home?
Meet Alderney FC – the club who have to raise £50,000 in an Island Games year, play four double headers a season in Guernsey’s Priaulx League and haven’t won a Muratti Vase game in 100 years.
That’s only part of an amazing football story being played out on the small Channel Island located 60 miles from the south coast of England and less than ten miles from France.
But despite their declining resident population clocking in at just under 1,800 people, Alderney football is in a positive place.
Having finished runners-up in their league last year, they are once again battling it out for the title.
And they’re dreaming of ending their century long wait for a win in the Muratti when they take on Guernsey in March.
A recent email into The NLP inbox asked if we’d fancy telling the story of football on Alderney. It was an interesting piece to write. My knowledge of the Muratti pretty much started and finished with Guernsey and Jersey playing in the final every year and the rivalry being fierce.
But Alderney have been getting closer to a final appearance and they dream of upsetting the odds – and the pro-gramme printers, with chairman Reg Atkins joking they are printed before the result of Alderney’s semi-final is even played out!
“Two-and-a-half years ago we were playing Jersey and we were 1-0 down,” Atkins told me. “We equalised in the sec-ond minute of injury time. They went mad, the crowd went mad, I went mad. Unfortunately we then went and conced-ed a minute later!
“So we have run them close. In 2002 was the first time we had a chance of winning when, would you believe, Chop-per Harris was Jersey manager.
“We got it back to 2-1 and hit the bar in the 90th-minute. They hadn’t allowed for extra time and booked to be on the earlier plane.”
Travel on and off Alderney can be an issue. It’s not uncommon for players to get stuck off the island when the fog sets in. In the winter flights don’t run so their regular leagues games in Guernsey are crammed in before October to avoid a late season pile-up.
When The NLP speaks to Atkins, he’s just off the phone after rearranging an away game that can’t be played be-cause of a waterlogged pitch. The alternative of playing on an artificial surface would have only allowed for 30 minutes to get changed and back to the airport. And that wasn’t taking stoppage time into consideration.
What is also remarkable is the players’ commitment to the cause and their league programme. Of the 24 games, they have to play two-thirds away. Each player forks out £900 towards the costs of flights and hotels for the double-headers.
They’ll play one game on the Friday night before the second Saturday lunch time – imagine that in the Premier League!
“No one is ever whinging about it – we all enjoy our football that much that we just get on with it,” manager Josh Concanen says. “We’re happy to help the club out financially because it’s a huge expense for an amateur football team. Especially with how much flights are to get off the island. You get fogged in but that’s just part of it.”
Atkins has big ambition off the pitch. They want to extend the clubhouse, which currently only holds 35, while improv-ing their changing rooms before eventually laying a 3G pitch. He also hopes an sports hall will be built one day as, currently, there is nowhere to train indoors.
Jumble sales bring in funds and people can also pay £10 to become a Vice President.
Whether 100 years of Muratti hurt will end this spring remains to be seen. But imagine the scenes in Victoria Street, which is always decked out in blue & white ahead of the big game.
“They have the programmes printed before the semi-final has finished,” Atkins says. “It will be printed Jersey v Guernsey before the game is played. One year we’ll really upset them. It will just be lovely.”
