THE OFFICIAL UK PUZZLE CLUB
Ravensburger’s UK development team has developed a broad, creative and fresh range for 2014. No wonder this company is sometimes referred to as “the king of jigsaws”!
The hugely acclaimed WHAT If? range has 2 new titles - Number 5, The Pet Parlour, asks WHAT IF? Pamela’s Pet Parlour diversified? And Number 6, The Village Hall, asks WHAT IF? The Village Hall Caretaker didn’t take care? Both designs are huge fun and you can get a copy of the puzzle picture on request.
Comedy fans will appreciate the new “Best of British” titles – Mayhem on Sea Airport and The Frog and Trumpet Pub. There are 2 new products using Colin Thompson’s amusing and quirky artwork - The Red Box is an oriental themed design, whilst Nostalgic Treasures shows just that – objects that might spark some memories.
There are 2 new colorful Crazy Cats designs - Tea and Cake, and At the Perfume shop. Howard Robinson’s World of Wildlife, featuring endangered species, will appeal to animal lovers, and he’s also created Peony Cottage. Nostalgia specialist Kevin Walsh is responsible for Happy Days Edinburgh, and Around the World Venice and Cote D’Azur. The nostalgic Happy Days at Work series has new additions with The Secretary and The Farmer and gardening fans should enjoy The Gardening World, a fantastic springtime garden, which includes planting ideas and tips from TV/radio gardener Pippa Greenwood.
We know you love scenes that conjure up thoughts of days out, so we’re sure you’ll like Coastal Retreats, depicting classic British seaside scenes at different times of the day. There are 3 new London scenes to bring back memories of days spent in the capital. Piccadilly Circus exudes fun and colour, whilst A Rainy Day in London and London Thames Viewpoint will be more challenging to complete but are full of atmosphere and detail.
Ravensburger’s original, creative ideas are evident in Someone to Watch over me, an atmospheric and subtle design featuring a guardian angel; Fairytale Fantasia is a fantastically colourful scene where storybook characters come to life; The Puzzle Factory depicts the workings of a very strange jigsaw puzzle production plant, and Haberdashery Heaven is a wonderfully nostalgic photographic still life that will bring back memories to anyone who has done any sewing in the last 60 years!
Finally, there are some great designs featuring licensed characters. The scene of Tatty Teddy in the kitchen is totally charming; there’s a new Disney image depicting masses of your favourite characters attending a carnival, and a beautiful design capturing seasonal images from The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady.

Happy New Year to all - thank you for all your cards and Christmas wishes and hope you’ve had a great Christmas. A special ‘hello’ to those new readers who have received this newsletter as their first one as part of a membership bought as a Christmas present. We’re very excited as the New Year always brings new releases from many of the main manufacturers. This month you can see we’ve focussed on Ravensburger, but next month will be Gibsons turn and we’ll concentrate on the other manufacturers over the coming months. If you have a favourite manufacturer you’d like to know more about, please get in touch.
… and remember that even though we may not have advertised a manufacturer or particular puzzle yet, we’re always here to help you find new or old jigs (as long as they are still available !)
Although they won’t feature in full until next month, I’ve been given a sneak preview of the new Thomas Kinkade puzzles, so you know what’s coming …. They are The Open Gate, Sussex (500pc), Evening at Swanbrooke Cottage (1000pc), Holiday Traditions (1000pc) and 1 collection of Nanette’s Cottage & Spirit of Christmas (2 x 500pc).
I’d like to add my own thank you and best wishes to Margaret for all her guidance and advice over the years and wish her well in her retirement. I’m now looking forward to continuing to help Mark and Juliet in their new venture up north (where it isn’t quite as warm as I’m used to!)
