Scholarships

UT Health Golf Tournament Scholarship

Intent: The intent of this scholarship is to reduce the level of school-related debt. This is a financial need based scholarship. Qualifications: Be a Texas resident, for tuition purposes; be in good ac-ademic standing; have demonstrated financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); be enrolled at least half time, and be enrolled in a degree-seeking program for Fall 2011 at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).

Children’s Defense Fund: Policy Internship

The intern provides substantive research, compiles reports, monitors interim legislative committees and helps with the execution of advoca-cy related activities including advocate training/recruitment, story col-lection, public education, legislator visits, legislative briefings and oth-er Department projects. Expect 15 to 20 hours/ week. This internship can be in Austin or Houston. Children’s Defense Fund: Communications Internship

The intern monitors media, assists with publication and press releases, and helps maintain CDF’s online and social media presence. The intern will work closely with the Communications Director and members of other departments to help develop messages that translate to a broad audience and motivate action. The intern is in charge of daily media monitoring and production of a daily news summary as well as main-taining CDF’s online and social media presence. Expect 15 –20 hours /week. Safe Mothers, Safe Babies: In-Country Intern We expect our interns to use their previous work and/or school experi-ence to develop our projects further. We are looking for culturally com-petent individuals that will use their knowledge and expertise to work on parts of our projects. Our educational projects focus on providing First Aid, disease prevention, Emergency Medical services training, and organ-ic farming training. The preventative projects seek to prevent malaria and malnutrition. While the direct care projects provide medical sup-plies, care and emergency transport in conjunction with local medical professionals. 40 hours / week. Igana District, Uganda. Mother’s Against Drunk Driving Health Policy Practicum

The Methodist Hospital—Methodist International

The project intern will provide administrative and project management support to Methodist International (MI). The intern will be responsible for project management as assigned, including completing a project relating the community benefits program, MI operations and business development. The positions requires the ability to lead, coordinate and complete projects with minimal supervision and must be capable of working individually or as part of a team. MD Anderson Graduate Research Assistant / Trainee Available immediately , the Center for Health Equity and Evaluation Re-search (CHEER) at MD Anderson Cancer Center has an outstanding work opportunity for a Master’s or Doctoral student. The project goal entails qualitative research aimed at understanding how to effectively links frequent users of EDs for primary care with appropriate, office-based providers. Assist with scheduling of focus group meetings, in-cluding contacting prospective participants; Assist primary investigator and/or facilitator during focus group sessions; schedule and conduct interviews with prospective study participants and key informants; as-sist with coding and analyzing qualitative data; enter data, organize in-formation collected and prepare project documentation; assist with writing manuscripts related to study findings; perform other research tasks as needed. Yale-New Haven Hospital: Operations Intern Yale-New Haven Hospital offers summer internship opportunities in hospital administration. Interns are based in the Department of Opera-tions Support, an internal consulting group within the hospital, and are assigned a mentor from the Executive Team. In addition to obtaining invaluable mentorship, interns also gain first-hand operational and ex-perience in a leading academic medical center as integral members of project teams. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a master health services administration, business administration or closely relat-ed academic program. Emory Clinic Summer Internship The Emory Clinic Summer Internship Program typically starts in mid-May or early June and lasts through mid-August. Students work full time during the week with their assigned departments or projects. Students are re-sponsible for keeping their project work on track to meet their respective deliverable deadlines throughout the summer. Additionally, students have the opportunity to attend senior leadership meetings, be exposed to de-partments throughout The Emory Clinic, attend lunch and learns to discuss various topics with peers and hear guest speakers, and formally present projects to The Emory Clinic section and executive leadership. Primary Children’s Medical Center Administrative Intern

The Hospital Administration Summer Internship is designed to aug-ment classroom learning and to prepare future healthcare leaders for opportunities upon graduation. Houston-Galveston Schweitzer Fellows Program The Houston-Galveston Schweitzer Fellows Program seeks to develop Leaders in Service who are dedicated to working with the underserved in their Fel-lowship year and beyond. Fellows design and implement their own 200-hour community service projects that address local unmet health needs and par-ticipate in monthly Fellowship activities. We select a diverse group of up to 12 students each year from multiple schools and academic disciplines, includ-ing biology, education, engineering, law, medicine, nursing, optometry, public health, religion, and social work, among others. The Fellowship is open to students enrolled in a graduate-level or profession-al degree program through April 2013; Fellows receive a $2500 stipend. Baylor College of Medicine, Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy is seeking a full-time Research Assistant. Individual hired will be providing on-going research support and coordination for the project team. The primary project for the individual hired will be an NIH-funded study of the ethical and psychosocial impact of integrating information from whole genome sequenc-ing into clinical care.

The individual hired will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activ-ities for a new NIH-funded research project; including, conducting compre-hensive literature searches on bioethics and health policy literature, coordi-nating project meetings, tracking and reporting on project components and benchmarks to ensure successful recruitment and participation rates, coordi-nating and documenting data collection strategies to ensure accuracy of in-formation, assisting with developing and administering surveys to study par-ticipants, and assisting with quantitative and qualitative data entry and anal-ysis. Spring Branch Community Health Center: Operations Manager

Spring Branch Community Health Center is currently searching for a Full-Time Site Supervisor to join our team. The Operations Managers/Site Super-visor is responsible for the workflow and performance of the front desk de-partment. The goal is to obtain superior performance and maximize produc-tivity.
