Introduction

Industrial design is the design of mass-produced goods in everyday life. It includes gadgets, appliances, furniture, kitchen utensils etc. The responsibility of an industrial designer is to help produce manufactured items not only useful but also aesthetically appealing. Their work includes packaging design, automobile and aeronautics design, corporate imagery and branding, etc.

Industrial design started in the 20th century. The German architect, Peter Behrens who was often considered the first industrial designer. In 1907, Behrens was the artistic adviser of Universal Electric Company, for which he designed not only buildings but also appliances like teakettles to fans. He determined the company’s corporate identity, packaging and advertising.

At present, the industrial design course is not that popular in the Philippines compare in US, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany and England. That’s why it’s not the field usually newly college students decide on compare to nursing, medicine, biology and engineering. People may not know what the opportunities of an industrial design graduate are. Some of them shall succeed and shall fail.

Background of the study:

This study helps to know the people the opportunities after industrial design course. Not only may that, but the interviews from the graduates of industrial design shed some light about the course and the career offerings. Also, to know the countries that places industrial design in the top trending job list.

Significance of the study

This study is significant in order for the readers to:

a. Know the brief history of industrial designb. Understand what industrial design is all aboutc. Know the importance of manufacturing itemsd. Know the opportunities of an industrial designerse. Introduce industrial designf. Appreciate the beauty of industrial designg. Convince high school graduates to choose industrial design as a bachelor’s

degreeh. Know who are the some successful industrial designers

Definition of terms:

Aesthetics – the science of beauty Aeronautics – study of how an object can withstand flight movement Behrens, Peter – the said to be the first industrial designer Corporate branding – the practice of using and applying a corporate brand

name to a given product. Design – a concept made into a reality Design process – produce designs Industrial design – the design of mass produced products which are not only

useful but also aesthetically appealing Industrial Revolution – a reform movement that began in Great Britain

during the mid-18th to mid-19th century. Industrialization – the change of production methods that started from

handmade to the use of machines. Industry – a field or part of a nation’s economy Manufacturing – the process of creating mass-produced products Packaging – the process of enclosing or protecting products inside a

container that can be stored with safety.

Scope and limitations:

This paper contains the Following:

B. The information pieces about industrial designers who graduated in the year 2011-2012
