The aurora borealis (commonly called northern lights) is best viewed under the following conditions: • When the sky is clear (not cloudy); check to see if you can see stars. • When solar activity is high; this means there is a greater chance for the lights to appear. The aurora prediction from the University of Alaska. • When you are nestled away (at our location!) from the interfering city lights (light pollution). • Plan on staying awake to go outside and check the skies between 10 pm and 2 am. While many people travel to remote sites to view the aurora, many locals are able to view the lights from the following locations much closer to town. West Side A. Chena Ridge (two miles from our property) B. Ester Dome (10 miles from our property) C. Murphy Dome (22 miles from our property) North Side D. Pedro Dome (30 miles from our property) E.
