Habitat The Northern Hairy Nose Wombat is
now ONLY found in one small national park called EPPING FOREST in central Queensland.
What’s Being Done???• Epping Forest has been made into a
National Park• 300 hectares of the park has a dingo proof
fence around it• Setting up breeding programs• Making artificial burrows• Regular health checks• Providing secure food and water• Back burning to prevent bush fires• Trying to get rid of Buffel Grass• Encouraging kangaroos to leave the park
What are the problems? The NHNW has a cousin called the Southern Hairy
Nosed Wombat. These are not endangered but the NHNW certainly is !!!!!! Why??????
Well they have faced many problems including:• Predation by dingos, foxes and feral cats• Destruction of habitat by cattle• Introduced grass[ buffel grass] doesn't provide
enough nutrients• Competition for food from rabbits, kangaroos and
swampies (swamp wallabies)• Fire, drought, flood
