Senior Nutri on Program

Potatoes and onions went in the ground recently. The lettuce, kale, and spinach are thriving in the hoop house, though we expect the spinach will bolt shortly. On sunny days, the temperature inside the hoop house easily reaches 120 degrees so despite frequent watering, spring spinach will end soon. Swiss chard and beets, both golden and red, are sprouting so they should be coming on line in a few weeks.

On Tuesday, we will travel to East Lansing to visit the MSU Horticulture Demonstration Gardens. They donate to us our choice of the many unsold vegetable plants they have left over from their annual plant sale. Last year, we came back with more than four flats of plants. This is a really significant donation to our garden and is much appreciated!

With all the new plants in hand, we’ll be soliciting volunteers some time soon to do some serious soil prep and planting. Much of the garden will be planted then.

Be on the lookout for our garden stand. Soon you will find freshly harvested goodies to share at your table. Stay tuned!

Hello from the New Kid on the Block! As I write this, it’s been about a month since I first dipped my toes into the CSC waters and I can honestly tell you that not for one minute have I had even an ounce of re‐gret. Though Trinh’s near future will mean a path away from our CSC family on a daily basis, I know that I speak for all in the CSC family in saying that there will always be a “seat at the table” for her. Trinh has worked wonders here over her 8 years at the helm, so I know that my biggest responsibility will be to keep our shared ship sailing in the right direc on.

While I consider myself honored to have been hand‐ed this new responsibility, I also realize how fortu‐nate I am on two fronts here: the individual staff members who make up such an effec ve, passionate, and hard‐working team; and the absolutely wonder‐ful members who make up the CSC family! As to the staff, the team of Jennifer, Mackenzie, Marylee, Pam‐ela, Emily, Mary, and Annie are just a wonder to work beside each day. Each, as I am sure most of you al‐ready know, give it their all every day and do whatev‐er they need to do to ensure the many programs and services are available to our greater senior communi‐ty. Knowing that each of them is here beside me each day is a blessing I cannot measure.

Then there are the members… you make all the work we do so very worthwhile! You have been incredibly welcoming & friendly and I look forward to ge ng to know each of you be er with each passing week – just forgive me as I con nue to wrap my memory cells around the countless new names & faces… I’ll get it! And a special final thanks to the fantas c group of volunteers who are involved one way or an‐other in almost all the ac vi es we undertake. Your passion and commitment is contagious – and much appreciated! Please know that my door is always open as is my mind to new ideas and perspec ves. Together, we’ll keep moving forward! —Bill
