The human body is a fascinating study to subject. You may be surprised by the following facts.
* Women blink twice as many times as
men do.
* Eyes are the most active
muscles in the whole body.
* There are about 550 hairs in the eyebrow.
* The life span of a
tastebud is 10 days.
Humans have almost 10,000 taste
buds.
* The colder the room you sleep in, the more
likely that you will have a bad dream.
* The human body is bet-ter suited for two four-hour sleep cycles than one eight-
hour one.
* The jawbone is the hardest
bone in the hu-man body.
* It’s impos-sible to sneeze with your eyes
open.* You share your birthday
with at least 9 million other people in the world.... talk about a lot of celebrating

ADVERTISER INDEX
September is really a fun month at our house because we have two birthdays and now our Denise is having a baby, so we will have three birthdays to celebrate. You know the last month of a pregnancy is not fun. You cannot sleep, sit, stand or do anything comfortably. The baby is kicking up a storm and you are all scared about delivery, health of the baby and how you are going to deal with the whole event. Life is ever changing, but you just have to do the best you can and the reward for what comes in the end is MORE than worth it - in this case extremely exciting. We cannot WAIT to meet baby Geremia and we know Denise is going to be amazing in every life changing aspect of being a mom!It is now official; there will be a Newsy Neighbour – Calgary. We have hired a sales assistant for Calgary advertisers and there will be a second Newsy Neighbour – all the same content but different ad-vertisers. There were so many Calgary advertisers approaching us to advertise and we want to stay true to our small town readers and advertisers, so instead of including all the Calgary advertisers we are taking this step into Calgary to grow. We are very excited about our second edition. “It’s funny Frodo when you step your foot out the door you just don’t know how far it will lead you” (from Lord of the Rings) the same thinking applies here. We encourage everyone to think this way. A new venture could be just around the corner for you too!We have added Derek Donais, our own area Strathmore teacher and writer to do a monthly book review alongside Jody Brown, a NLP Master Practioner & Advanced Master Hypnotherapist to our team! It’s so exciting to be a part of a bigger picture – to help towns and people connect. If you think you are a big picture person and would like to work with our team as a Calgary Sales Rep (all com-mission), please send e-mail to [email protected]. Have the most wonderful September and maybe we will have an Indian summer – which means October will be a very warm month too!!!

I bet, that those of you who are not familiar with the term “Decorative Painting” is saying right now to yourself, “I would never be able to do that!”. Well, I’m here to tell you you’re wrong!Decorative Painting is an art form in which you need no prior experience in drawing or art. If you have a desire to learn, and are willing to learn the basics and then practice, you can learn to paint. If you decide to take a Decorative Painting Class, you will be working with a pattern and will be taught techniques in a very systematic way, which makes it very fun, relaxing and an easy learning experience. Let me tell you, personally, I can barely draw a stick man, but I can still paint and love it.Some would say that there is a fine line between decorative arts and fine arts. The separation of the decorative arts from the fine arts is a modern distinction. Some distinguish between decorative and fine art based on functionality, intended purpose, importance, status as a unique creation, or single-artist production. Here is a bit of history on Decorative Painting. While it’s almost impossible to know the exact origins, decorative painting can be traced back several centuries to Europe. Some of these artists, in Europe, became grand masters and were extremely skilled in their craft. Their services were only available to the rich. However, before long, others were attempting to imitate these skills and painted on walls, furniture and just about anything in a more simplistic & charming ways.It wasn’t long before some of these pieces made it to North America, and in no time at all, this style of painting spread by way of inter-net, painters and peddlers. Today, we can all enjoy this form of painting because combining traditional techniques, from the grand masters, with new techniques we can produce effects that are only limited by our imaginations!! So, again, I ask you… Have you ever thought “I would love to be able to paint that, but there’s no way I can?” WELL, YOU CAN!!Whether you are an experienced artist or an artist in the making, we have the perfect class for you!Let me help you unleash your talents & inspirations. BODY PARTS – YOUR PRECIOUS EYESThey say your eyes are the window to your soul and researchers argued that eye structure and personality could be linked because the genes responsible for the de-velopment of the iris also play a role in shaping part of the frontal lobe of the brain, which influences personality. Your eyes are the most sensitive and delicate organs you possess, and perhaps the most amazing. The window through which we view the world, and are responsible for four fifths of all the information our brain receives – we rely on our eyesight more than any other sense. The images we see are made up of light reflected from the objects we look at. This light enters the eye through the cornea, creating an upside-down image on the retina. The retina is a complex part of the eye, but only the very back of it is light-sensitive, and is packed with photosensitive cells called rods and cones. These allow us to see images in colour and detail, and to see at night. Cones are the cells responsible for daylight vision. Rods are responsible for night vision. The lens focuses the image. It can do this because it is adjustable - using muscles to change shape and help us focus on objects at different distances. The automatic focusing of the lens is a reflex response and is not controlled by the brain. Once the image is clearly focused on the sensitive part of the retina, energy in the light that makes up that image creates an electrical signal. Nerve impulses can then carry information about that image to the brain through the optic nerve.
Your eyes are truly beautiful and no two are the same – think about all the things your eyes have seen over the years – it is quite a daunting and dazzeling thought. It is truly important to care for them as they have cared for you. Here are a few things you can add into your life without being life changing. For example the ginkgo is the oldest living tree species, growing on earth for 150-200 million years and one of the most well researched herbs in the world. Studies have confirmed that ginkgo; also a powerful antioxidant increases blood flows to the retina and may help those with macular degeneration. Selenium is a trace mineral that our bodies need to boost immunity and fight off infections. It can also help prevent cataracts and macular degeneration by acting as an antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals that can damage the eye’s lens and macula. Selenium also helps your body to absorb vitamin E. Fish, shellfish, red meat; grains, eggs, chicken, liver, and garlic are all good sources of selenium. Vitamin A is essential for eye and vision health and for the retina to function properly it requires this vitamin. One dietary source of vitamin A
goes by the name “retinoid.” The other source is carotenoids, from fruits and vegetables containing yellow, orange, and dark green pigments. One of the causes of night blindness is vitamin A deficiency. So eat your sweet potatoes, carrots, mangoes, spinach, and cantaloupe. Remember to wear good sunglasses on those bright sunny days – (which we haven’t had a lot of this summer) and try to eat foods that are good for your eyes – the thing is those foods are also good for your whole mind, body and soul.By: Kathryn Hartwell
I know one person for sure having a baby in September – lucky Denise – we wish all the best in the world for Mommy, Daddy and Baby. I’m sure there will be lots of baby showers in September so I have included a few really fun Shower Games.
SEPTEMBER FAMILY PAGE September is for babies and treesSeptember is for babies and trees – my favouite time of year, and the month in which I was born. If you want to have a spiritual experience, just drive through the mountains in the fall and marvel at the trees with their hues of oranges, reds and yellows; and if you are lucky enough to have a baby, take it along on your journey. Babies are just the mostincredible lile humans in the universe. Just look into those sweet, innocent and luminous faces and you know life is precious.

Did You Know:A Baby is born every seven seconds.Babies are born with very poor vision but can recognize their mothers almost right away. Babies are always born with blue eyes, but within moments of delivery their eye colour can change.Babies are born with swimming abilities and can naturally hold their breath. However, they shortly lose this instinct.Newborns usually double their weight by six months. Playing classical music can increase a baby’s intelligence. Reading to your child at any age will increase their knowledge. Babies and toddlers are, pound for pound, stronger than oxen. Babies are born without kneecaps.
Guess Mom's Tummy Size: Grab some string or yarn and have each woman pull the yarn to the size they believe would t perfectly around Mom-mies tummy. After everyone cuts their string and compares the results – you have a winner. You will be shocked at how long the yarn has to be!
Trees, most denitely one of my favourite entities – just have a look in my backyard. We stop at the Giant Cedar Boardwalk every time we go to B.C., (it’s located 30 km past Revestoke) and I could spend hours there spending time with these Giant Cedars; there is a peaceful, engulng feeling as you walk beneath the towering giants. I love it there; if you have never stopped make a point of it next time. Until that time comes I have included a unique twig trivet you can make yourself – a great gift or a con-versation piece for your table.
Guess the baby item: Find some cool and dierent baby items and place them in a bag – blindfold the mommy and let her take out each item individually and try to guess what it is. If you haven’t gone shopping for baby stu in a while you are going to be shocked at the crazy items you can nd. Have Fun.
How Many Baby Items Can You Name: Have each guest write down as many baby items as they can within 5 minutes. Starts easy, ends hard – you will nd out who has had a baby before – they know things new moms do not. Give a prize to the most creative.
Bole Races: This can be really fun and you don’t have to use milk, if you don’t want too. Have each brave soul take a bole lled with a liquid – you know what to do next, you will nd it is not easy sucking a baby bole. Set a time or just until the rst one-nished wins. It is quite funny and fun.
THEMESIt is fun to pick a theme
for your baby shower! Just use your imagina-tion! The old traditional themes are Blue (Boy)
and Pink (Girl). What about a Nursery Rhyme
theme or Winnie the Pooh, Noah’s Ark,
Scrapbooking, Library for Baby, Frogs or
Angels? Whatever your theme may be, have fun
and treat the new mother-to-be extra

THIS IS A CRAFT THE YOUNGER KIDS NEED A LITTLE HELP WITH, BUT YOU CAN MAKE ONE AT THE SAME TIME. Take a walk in a wooded area and collect as many twigs you can nd. Make sure an adult cuts the twigs to the proper size with pruning shears – we don’t want to loose any lile ngers. You will also need: Corrugated cardboard, Natural jute, 4-ply, Pruning shears or sharp craft knife, Ruler, Pencil, Scissors, Waxed paper, Craft stick, Tacky glue. Ask an adult to help you use pruning shears (or a sharp craft knife) to cut the sticks into three-inch lengths. Use sticks that are as straight as possible. You will need about 25 to 30 pieces. Measure and cut a piece of cardboard into a 6-inch square.Place the cardboard square onto waxed paper. Scoop glue from bole with the craft stick and spread glue in a thick layer over entire cardboard surface.Lay the sticks in a parquet paern. Place the sticks as close to each other as possible. Let glue dry completely. Squeeze a thick line of glue around the outside edge of the trivet. Starting in the center of a side, place the jute in the glue and press rmly to the edge of the trivet. When you
The leave colours red, yellow & brown are in the leaves all year long & only become exposed when the green chlorophyll disappears in the fall.
Mulching fall leaves where they fall lets them decompose so that they can release their minerals back to the underlying soil.
Maples, Oaks, Elms, Birch & Ash trees are just a few of the trees that give spectacular colors during the Autumn season.
Fall colours are best when late summer is dry & autumn has bright sunny days & cool nights below 40 °F.
Fall days become shorter & many plants stop making food. That is when the green chlorophyll starts to disappear from the leaves.
Most leaves fall from trees because the ends of the branch are sealed off near the leaf stem to protect the tree through the long winter months.
Composting fall leaves is an excel-lent way to improve yard & garden soils. Mixing green & brown mate-rials together is the basic rule.

Every night, Harold would go down to the liquor store, get a six pack, bring it home, and drink it while he watched TV. One night, as he finished his last beer, the doorbell rang. He stumbled to the door and found a six-foot cockroach standing there. The bug grabbed him by the collar and threw him across the room, and left. The next night, after he finished his 3th beer, the doorbell rang. He walked slowly to the door and found the same six-foot cockroach standing there. The big bug punched him in the stomach, then left. The next night, after he finished his 1st beer, the doorbell rang again. The same six-foot cockroach was standing there. This time he was kneed in the groin and hit behind the ear as he doubled over in pain. Then the big bug left. The following day, Harold went to see his doctor. He explained events of the preceding three nights. “ What can I do? “ he pleaded. “ Not much “ he doctor replied. “ There’s just a nasty bug going around.”

Olympics MistakeWe would like to apologize for the mistake in August Issue 34. We stated that Canada has only hosted the Olympics twice in one of our “Did you know” columns. This is NOT TRUE.Canada has hosted them three times. 1) The summer Olym-pics in Montreal in 1976. 2) The winter Olympics in 1988 in Calgary. 3) The winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010. Here are some interesting facts for you about the Vancou-ver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games:• Number of Olympic athletes and officials: 5,500 • Number of Paralympic athletes and officials: 1,350 • Countries participating in Olympic Winter Games: 80+ • Countries participating in Paralympic Winter Games: 40+ • 2010 Olympic Winter Games events tickets available: 1.6 million • 2010 Paralympic Winter Games events tickets available: 250,000 • Estimated number of media representatives: 10,000 •Estimated number of Games volunteers: 25,000CANADA WON THE MOST GOLD METALS IN VANCOUVER 2010.The next Olympics are the Summer Olympics. They will be held in London, England in 2010.The next winter Olympics will be held in Sochi, Russia in 2014.
Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT)Animal Assisted Therapy has been in existence since WW11. In 1976 a training program was developed for working dogs, and in 1982 the concept was broadened into “animal-assisted therapy”. Today, AAT is known world-wide.So What Is Animal Assisted Therapy?Animal Assisted Therapy is a partnership between a thera-pist and a working animal who provides a loving presence through non-verbal communication. Working animals as-sist people, individually or in groups, to heal by enabling them to feel safe, comfortable and present to the power of unconditional love. Research has shown that the bonds be-tween species expedite healing and foster well-being. Our beloved animal companions help create a sacred balance.Benefits of Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT)o Increases self-esteem. o Opens non-verbal communication o Improves attention skills o Increases responsibility o Provides opportunities for safe touch and interaction o Lowers blood pressure and heart rateo Teaches us about living in the moment, rather than focus-sing on our feelings about the past or worrying about our future.o Improves the physical, social, emotional, and/or cogni-tive functioning of the individualIn the 9 years that Straja Linder King and her therapy dog have been working with Spiritual Directions we have seen the effects of AAT in both indoor and outdoor settings. The trained therapy dog seems to know who needs a compan-ion during therapy, while being respectful of the client’s need for space as well. To find out more about Animal Assisted Therapy or to make an appointment call 403-210-2802 or visit our web-site at www.spiritualdirections.com. We wanted to apologize if we offended anyone with our Marriage joke in the August issue of the magazine. This was of course a joke and was not meant to be taken literally. However we realize this can be a touchy subject and apologize for publishing a joke of this nature.
We received an email from an offended reader that stated:Statistics show Caucasian females are 58% most likely to initiate physical contact in a intimate relationship. The only problem is 70% of the time the male is charged. Reference www.thenononsenseman.com
If we offended anyone else with this please accept our most sincere apologies. That was absolutely not our intention. You can reference this joke in August Issue 34 on page 35. The four Goldberg Brothers The four Goldberg brothers, Lowell, Nor-man, Hiram, and Max, invented and de-veloped the first automobile air-condition-er. On July 17, 1946, the temperature in Detroit was 97 degrees.
The four brothers walked into old man Henry Ford’s office and sweet-talked his secretary into telling him that four gen-tlemen were there with the most exciting innovation in the auto industry since the electric starter.
Henry was curious and invited them into his office. They refused and instead asked that he come out to the parking lot to their car.
They persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130 degrees, turned on the air conditioner, and cooled the car off immediately.
The old man got very excited and invited them back to the office, where he offered them $3 million for the patent.
The brothers refused, saying they would settle for $2 million, but they wanted the recognition by having a label, ‘The Gold-berg Air-Conditioner,’ on the dashboard of each car in which it was installed.
Now old man Ford was more than just a little anti-Semitic, and there was no way he was going to put the Goldberg’s name on two million Fords.
They haggled back and forth for about two hours and finally agreed on $4 million and that just their first names would be shown.
And so to this day, all Ford air conditioners show -- Lo, Norm, Hi, and Max -- on the controls.

Does your dog need a supplement? We are advised by those who are in the know that, not only do we not always eat the right food, but our fruits and vege-tables no longer contain all the necessary elements that these same sources may have once contained; so we are more and more dependent on food supplements. What about your dog or cat? The difference is that they cannot tell you, in speech at least, what extras they require. You may remember a time when dogs were able to eat almost anything and live to at least fifteen years or beyond. Today, it’s all too common that we hear about dogs or cats having a cancerous growth or experiencing kidney failure because of

diabetes or the like—something almost unheard of a few de-cades ago.Like humans, pets are exposed to pesticides, fertilizers, house-hold cleaners, sources of nasty bacteria and so forth. Free radicals are ingested in many different forms and can be root causes of cancer, cataracts, premature aging, heart dis-ease and upwards of fifty other diseases. With all of these diseases now being so prevalent, could it be possible to turn the tide against these ailments with only a supplement keep-ing our pet at the peak of health and reduce exorbitant vet fees? Yes it is!After training top working dogs for over twenty years, and al-ways looking to find one or more supplements to extend my dog’s working life and boost their performance, I have found THE supplement of choice and have brought it to Canada. Before I offer any products to my clients, they are checked out thoroughly and then tested on my own animals, then on club dogs to make sure they do all that they say and more.NuVet Plus is a revolutionary pet supplement that took a team of veterinarians, physicians, pharmacists and nutritional scien-tists eight years to develop. Yet, this supplement is not costly. For example, one MAJOR trip to the vet could pay for a lifetime supply of NuVet. The following are just a few of the health issues that NuVet alleviates: ~ Allergies of all kinds, Skin and Coat problems including Scratching, Biting and Hot spots ~ Arthritis and joint problems, Pre-mature aging, Low energy levels, Cushing’s and Addison’s Disease ~ Cataracts and Tear stains, Digestive problems and Heart disease ~ Incontinence, Ear infections, as well as ~ Reducing some Cancers and eliminating others.NuVet Labs are very particular as to who may purchase this product in order that it doesn’t get into the hands of any puppy mills. Currently, there are only two places that carry the NuVet product in Canada: k9trainingandsupplies.com, and Designer Mutts, in Langdon. For more information on this or other dog or cat products, please email me, Sandy Cormier at [email protected], or phone 403-607-6248.

A cat died and went to Heaven. God met her at the gates and said, ‘You have been a good cat all these years. Any-thing you want is yours for the asking.’ The cat thought for a minute and then said, ‘All my life I lived on a farm and slept on hard wooden floors. I would like a real fluffy pillow to sleep on.’ God said, ‘Say no more.’ Instantly the cat had a huge fluffy pillow. A few days later, six mice were killed in an accident and they all went to Heaven together. God met the mice at the gates with the same offer that He made to the cat. The mice said, ‘Well, we have had to run all of our lives: from cats, dogs, and even people with brooms! If we could just have some little roller skates, we would not have to run again.’ God answered, ‘It is done.’ All the mice had beautiful little roller skates. About a week later, God decided to check on the cat.. He found her sound asleep on her fluffy pillow. God gently awakened the cat and asked, ‘Is everything okay? How have you been doing? Are you happy?’ The cat replied, ‘Oh, it is WONDERFUL. I have never been so happy in my life. The pillow is so fluffy, and those little Meals on Wheels you have been sending over are delicious!’

I am very old and originally lived in central Asia and all the Middle Eastern countries. I have changed over the years – I use to be deep purple in colour kinda like an eggplant. This was because of the minerals in the land. In pre-Hellenic times, a yellow rooted carrot appeared in Afghanistan and we were cultivated into the orange carrot you are familiar with today. We became very popular and moved to the Mediterranean region and were adopted by the ancient Greeks and Romans for our medicinal uses. We were not popular in Europe until the Renaissance, probably because we used to be a little tough and fibrous. But in the 17th century, agriculturists in Europe started to change us, making us the bright orange colour and making us more tender. Well, then the Europeans loved us and started sending our seeds to Asia and North Africa. We came to North America in the early 1800s and were the first vegetable to be canned. Today, the United States, France, England, Poland, China and Japan are among the largest producers of carrots.
September is here so pull us from your garden and enjoy the wonderful sweet flavour of a fresh garden carrot – now is the time we are the most flavourful. Oh, yea I forgot to tell you about how good we are for you! We are an excellent source of antioxidant compounds, and the richest veg-etable source of the pro-vitamin A carotenes. We help protect against cardiovascular disease and cancer and also promote good vision, especially night vision.
There was a study done in Massachusetts and they found that people who ate at least one serving of carrots and/or squash each day had a 60% reduction in their risk of heart attacks. Our beta-carotene helps to protect vision. After beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A in the liver, it trav-els to the retina where it is transformed into rhodopsin, a purple pigment that is necessary for night vision. Plus beta-carotene’s powerful antioxidant actions help provide protection against macular degeneration and the development of senile cataracts, the leading cause of blindness in the elderly.
You're not going to believe this, but research has shown that just one carrot a day could cut the rate of lung cancer in half. I’m not kidding, so just eat one carrot a day if you are a smoker or exposed to second hand smoke! A carcinogen (benzoapyrene) in cigarettes induces vitamin A deficiency and carrots help to bring the vitamin A back in your precious (and the only one you have) body.

So the businessman hands over the keys to a Rolls Royce parked on the street in front of the bank. Everything checks out, and the bank agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. An employee drives the Rolls into the bank’s underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the businessman returns, repays the $7,000 and the interest, which comes to $19.67. The loan officer says, “We are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little confused. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multimillionaire. What confuses us is why would you bother to borrow $7,000?” The businessman replied, “Where else in San Francisco can I park my car for two weeks for 20 bucks?”

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN MY MATTRESS? One of the most important features in a mattress is to consistently support us evenly. It must support our spine and not allow pressure points to develop. The mattress should support along the natu-ral curves of the body. The reduction in pressure points and even support will allow us to spend more time in a deep restful sleep, allow the natural sleep cycles to occur and reduce the amount of times we move in our sleep. This support should not be overly soft nor too firm. Many people believe that a very firm mattress will help their back. There is disagreement over this. The natural curves of the body require support and sleeping on a sheet of plywood will not allow this. As most know, sleeping positions are a consideration in a mattress. Sleeping on our stomach (face down) is generally regarded as the worst sleeping position.Long term even support over the life of the mattress is a major consideration. The type of coil construction, quilting and types/quality of foam layering all contribute to even natural support. Many new mattresses incor-porate more ecological and healthier types of foams in them. The ticking (cover) and foams are more bacterial resistant and less prone to outgassing. Very important and frequently overlooked is the foundation (boxspring) that supports the mattress. It should be working together with your mattress. The mattress should provide comfort, support and space. Preferences in mattresses have changed to the larger sizes. Space to sleep is an important factor, especially as we age. Couples should not sleep on a mattress smaller than a queen size. PJ’s Appliance & Mattress Gallery

DRUIDSBarbara Galler-Smith and Josh LangstonEdge Publishing, 1st edition, October 2009Historical Fiction, Trade Paperback, 336 pages ISBN: 1894063295
REVIEW by:Derek [email protected]
Druids follows the stories of two Celts, Rhonwen, a healer, and Mallec, a seer. Their lives are separate, yet interconnected through their relationship with the elder Orlan. He is Rhonwen’s uncle and Mallec’s men-tor, and the wise Druid teaches them both part of what they need to learn in order to eventually rise to the same respected position. The ancient lands of the Celts are pressed under the heavy thumb of Roman oppression; Rhonwen and Mallec must not only find their way among the Celtic peoples, they are forced to do so while enduring the constant threat of Roman interference.
Druids is a compelling, character-driven novel. Rhonwen, an independent and strong young woman, is plagued by her mother’s misplaced bitterness and suffers the demands this places on the aspiring healer. In desperate times, Rhonwen’s strength and determination are required, though her fortitude unfortu-nately comes with a dear price.Mallec is a gifted seer born to a tribe of warriors. He escapes his early, torturous circumstances and ven-tures to the island of Mona, the famed centre of druidic education. It is there that the clever and inquisitive Mallec finds Orlan, who takes the young seer under his wing. Unfortunately for Mallec, he finds that life at the great institution is otherwise not so much different than back with his clan. After Orlan uncovers a forgotten druid rite that has the potential to restore health and potentially grant the power of immortality, this magic becomes crucial to both Rhonwen and Mallec. For Rhonwen, it holds the promise of vindication and freedom; for Mallec, it has become a sacred knowledge entrusted to him, one that he must foster and protect from the schemes of others.Infused with equal parts history and fiction, the story grows more intriguing with the turning of each page. Every chapter is headed by a tract of druidic history recorded by past, ancient leaders, which draws the reader further into the tale. In this humble reader’s opinion, the only missing element is a map; it would be very interesting to have seen roughly where the Celtic tribal boundaries or even settlements were es-tablished. Chalking this point up to personal preference, though, the absence in no way affects the overall quality of the story or the satisfaction one will surely get in reading Druids.

CandiGONE is a 15 day microbial cleansing program thatcombines a broad spectrum of synergistic herbs and othernatural ingredients to destroy Candida and yeast in theintestinal tract. For chronic cases of Candida, use CandiGONE for 30 days.
FloraSMART Extra Strength is a blend of probiotics whichhelp ensure a healthy balance between good and bad bacteria in the intestinaltract. When the bacteria in the intestinal tract are not in balance, it allowsfor bad bacteria, such as Candida albicans, to grow and over populate thearea. This is the underlying cause of yeast overgrowth in the body.
FibreSMART is a unique fibre formula that supports thedigestive tract and overall bowel health. Fibre absorbs
toxins and ‘sweeps’ dead yeast and Candida from the intestinal tractto the colon for elimination.
CandiZYME is a powerful enzyme product specificallyformulated to destroy the protective cell walls of Candida/ yeast organisms. This ensures that the antifungal herbs
in CandiGONE can destroy Candida / yeast more effectively.
When we talk about yeast overgrowth, what we arereferring to is an imbalance of our body’s healthy flora or
beneficial bacteria. Yeast organisms are normally present inour intestinal tract in small amounts. However, this balance
can easily be destroyed by things such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, birth control pills, poor diet, stress, and nutrient
deficiencies. Here are just a few of the symptoms of Candida overgrowth:
By following my Candida Protocol, you can get rid of your Candidaovergrowth, have more energy, and feel great. The difference you will feelwill be noticeable. You have my word on that.

INTERESTING EYE FACTSEyes are the most complex organs you possess except for your brain. ~ Eyes are composed of more than two million working parts. ~ They can process 36,000 bits of information every hour. ~ They contribute towards 85% of your total knowledge. ~ They utilize 65% of all the pathways to the brain. ~ They can instantaneously set in motion hundreds of muscles and organs in your body. ~ In a normal life span, will bring you almost 24 million images of the world around you. ~ The external muscles that move the eyes are the strongest muscles in the human body for the job that they have to do. ~ The eye is the only part of the human body that can function at 100% ability at any moment, day or night, without rest. Your eyelids need rest, the external muscles of your eyes need rest, the lubrication of your eyes requires replenishment, but your eyes themselves “never” need rest.

A New School Year...Get the right answer, Naturally!
When sending the kids back to school…don’t forget to pack their health! Although it seems difficult to accept, the summer holiday has come and gone, and the reality of the school year be-gins again! For many of us, we have already taken our kids to get all of the regular supplies they will need to have a fun and productive school year. Although we have taken all the steps to ensure they are fully prepared to learn, we often forget that another important component to ensure they have a rewarding and productive year, is to provide their mind and bodies with all the nutrients they will need as well!Today’s modern school life is quite different than it was years ago. Today’s classes offered through our education system are more demanding than ever before, even at the youngest of ages. While at school, many of our chil-dren will be exposed to illnesses and various strings of bacteria that are not normally found at home. And, for many parents who have demanding lifestyles, the time needed to ensure our children have a healthy and nutri-ent filled lunch has been replaced by processed, quick, convenient, and expensive, foods that have very little nutritional value. Combined, these challenges may result that our children will not be able to learn as effectively as we would like, or they may get sick more often.Following is a list of natural supplements that you may wish to include on your child’s back to school list:.
www.thenewsyneighbor.com The Newsy Neighbor Page 37Your Health, Beauty & Happiness
*Multi-Vitamin and Mineral- For kids and adults alike, a good quality multi-vitamin and mineral complex is one of the essen-tial building blocks of our overall health. Even for children who make the healthiest of choices in their diet, a good multi-vitamin and mineral on a daily basis will help to ensure that our bodies have at least the minimum needed to function, since many of our foods lack the nutrients they did years ago.*Omega 3-6-9 or EFA’s (Essential Fatty Acids)- Over the past decade or so, this group of nutrients may be the most scien-tifically researched, and some results from these clinical studies have been truly remarkable! EFA’s, or the “healthy fats” sourced from fish or plants such as Chia, Hemp, or Flax have been shown to help provide energy, boost our immune sys-tem, aid in tissue repair, and help support brain function overall including memory, motor function, and mood.*Pro-biotics- These are the “healthy bacteria” which are found in our intestinal tract. Many of today’s leader nutritional experts agree that the majority of all illness, begins in the gut. When taken on a daily basis, pro-biotics will support healthy digestion, support all the organs of elimination to assist in the removable of toxins, and overall build a stronger immune system.*Herbal immunity formula- When considering supplementation this school year, it may be a good idea to consider a natural immunity formula. Many of the top selling formulas from the most trusted of manufacturers may contain natural ingre-dients such as Elderberry, Blueberry, and Reishi or Shitake mushrooms. These components have all been shown to help support a healthy immune system, and give our bodies the best chance to defend against illness and infection. Traditionally these supplements were found in capsule form, but now many of the most trusted brands have brought out liquid forms which are easily absorbable, and convenient for family members of all ages to take!As well, keep in mind these simple lifestyle tips which will help to ensure your child gets the most out of their school year:*Drink 8 glasses of water each day to keep the body hydrated. All of our internal organs, including the brain, need water to function properly.*When selecting foods, try and make choices for your children which are high in fiber and protein, and low in fat and car-bohydrates. The greater the contrast, the healthier the food choice is! *Washing hands on a regular basis will help to prevent illness. For more sensible “Back to School” advice for you and your family, stop in with your natural health and nutritional ques-tions to the Sangsters Health Centre located in its new location in the Marlborough Mall, across from Dollarama.

Your Last Diet The Knowledge to Keep Those Pounds off Forever! The Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method is a medically designed protocol that results in fat loss while sparing muscle mass. The Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method helps stabilize the pancreas and blood sugar levels while burning fat and maintaining muscle and other lean tissue. What is the Source of Most Weight Issues? According to Dr. Tran Tien, “The cause of most weight issues in a modern society is insulin dysfunc-tion. A diet grossly disproportionate in its share of saturated fats and sugars, such as in breads, cereals, muffins, cakes, pastries, pasta, pizza, rice, corn - very much like the North American diet - causes the pancreas to produce an overabundance of insulin, which stays in the system and puts the blood sugar level in a negative balance.” An overproduction of insulin also leads to hypoglycemia or low glycemia, which in turn induces constant sugar cravings and weight gain. Insulin’s primary function is to regulate blood sugar levels however it is also the hormone that facilitates the trans-port of fat (triglycerides) into the fat cells. Even worse, it “locks” the fat in the fat cell, preventing it to be used as a source of energy. Now, because the blood sugar has dropped (and we can’t access the fat as a fuel source) it creates “sugar cravings’ and the vicious cycle begins again. In other words, an over abundance of insulin causes weight gain. The Ideal Protein protocol will transform the body’s ability to digest sugars properly by regulating insulin levels. How? By giving the pancreas a well-deserved break and by limiting simple and complex carbs until the weight loss goal is achieved.Principles Behind the Protocol. Learn to live off of the body’s own fat reserves. The body employs energy from three reserves: glycogen (carbo-hydrate), protein and fats. First from it’s simple and complex carbohydrate reserves and when depleted, turns simultaneously to its protein and fat reserves for energy. A person not in need of weight loss typically has approximately 1-2% of their body’s reserves from carbs, approximately 19% from their muscle mass and 79% of their body reserves from fat.Simple and complex carbohydrates can prevent weight loss. The body stores approximately three days worth of carbohydrates. Because of this, the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method has a beginning and an end. Until 100% of the weight loss goal is achieved, we restrict sugars (simple and complex). Why? Because, as long as sugar is being consumed, the body is not burning fat. It’s as simple as that. Remember, the first source of energy is derived from glycogen (carbohydrate) reserves. The main principle is to deplete the glycogen (carbohydrate) reserves completely in order to compel the body to turn to its fat reserve to burn calories. How do we get the body to burn its fat reserves and not its muscle mass reserves, if both are depleted simultaneously? First, by providing the body with foods that have a high protein value, complete with 8 essential amino acids, 97% absorbable, which make them biologically-complete proteins. Secondly, by supplementing with nutrient-rich supplements such as Natura Multi-Vita, Natura Calcium & Magnesium and Natura Potassium, key ingredients in muscle building and electrolytes to replace those normally found in foods restricted on the Ideal Protein protocol.A dieter will feel energized, look vibrant and feel strong. It is no wonder. Given the opportunity for the body’s natural ability to heal itself and showcase its innate and ingenious powers, such as in the way during the protocol the body will return the favor with unparalleled force, radiance and beauty. We also offer a modified protocol for Type I diabetics, adolescents and children.Donella Sewell ~ Ideal Weigh Center, Strathmore Alberta. 403 934-5653 / 403 652-0460 cell

I AM NOW FREE FROM CIGARETTESI am now free, I am liberated. My life is now my own and will not be controlled by a substance. I will have more energy, health, and wealth. I will be free to go anywhere and not feel the chain around my neck of this addiction. I am done with this terrible unhealthy vice. I will be more productive and I will spend more time caring for my body, because I am important. I will be here for my children, see my first grandchild, more marriages and happiness. I am free and liberated. I had my last cigarette today. Yahoooooooo!1. A single cigarette contains over 4,000 chemicals, including 200 known poisons and more than 60 carcinogens. 2. Smoking causes more than 15 different types of cancers, including cancer of the lungs, mouth, voice box (larynx), throat (pharynx), esophagus, bladder, kidney, pancreas, cervix, stomach, and some leukemias. 3. Smoking increases your risk of getting lung diseases like pneumonia, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. 4. Smokers are twice as likely to die from heart attacks as are non-smokers. 5. Women over 35 who smoke and use birth control pills have a higher risk of heart attack, stroke, and blood clots of the legs. 6. The CDC estimates that adult male smokers lose an aver-age of 13.2 years of life and female smokers lose 14.5 years of life because of smoking, and given the diseases that smoking can cause, it can steal your quality of life long be-fore you die. 7. Tobacco is responsible for nearly one in every five deaths in the United States and is the largest cause of preventable death. 8. Every year, about 3,000 non-smoking adults die of lung cancer as a result of breathing secondhand smoke. 9. Secondhand smoke also causes about 35,000 deaths from heart disease in people who are not smokers. 10. Every year, between 200,000 and one million asthmatic kids suffer from increasingly severe asthma attacks due to secondhand smoke. 11. Children are more vulnerable to respiratory and ear in-fections caused by secondhand smoke because their lungs are smaller and their immune systems are weaker.
Trying to quit smoking is one of the hardest things you may ever have to do. I have tried many times in the past and al-ways seem to go back. But, not this time, I am determined to look after myself and be better to my body. It’s never to late – one day at a time.By: Kathryn Hartwell

“TEACHER”by PATRICIA MULLIN
“Teacher,” a small voice sighed,Looking down, “Yes,” I replied,
Anxious eyes, “ I don’t know what to do,”“Go sit down, put up your hand,
I’ll come to you.”Head lowered he returns to his chair,I hurry my task and I meet him there.
“Teacher,” a sad voice bawls,Looking around at all the children Running in the halls, “Yes,” I call.
Tear filled eyes, “She said she’s not my friend anymore.”
“Remember what I said before,“About all the things you have to ignore?”
Nodding her head unconvinced, She wanders through the door.
Maybe, I think, I should have said more.“Teacher,” an excited voice yells,
“I made it here before all the bells,I’m not late today!”
Eyes shining, a high five and a hug,I knew he could do it, he’s as cute as a bug.
“Teacher,” a desperate sound,Who could that be? And I turn around.“I need a drink and I have to go wee,”
“Could you please just wait? Its already past three?”
Head shaking, face twisted, “I don’t think that I can,”
I nod, as out of the room he ran.“Teacher! Bye, teacher!” The multitude roars,
As they make a mad dash And stampede through the doors.
I smile and I wave and I whisper, “Bye, Bye.”I walk to my desk and sit down with a sigh.
There are journals to mark and lessons to plan,I just want to get home as soon as I can!
“TEACHER,” I think as I go,I do have a name, I’m not sure that they know.
I think we have to practice, I’ll write it on the board,
Although I know when they need me ,It will again be ignored.

My 7 yr old daughter Sidney and I saw the ad for the Gleichen Fair in last week’s Newsy Neighbour. We decided to enter their chili cook-off. It was judged by the public and she felt that kids would prefer a chili that tasted more like pizza. We created our very first Pepperoni Pizza Chili. We stayed up late on Friday preparing the meal. It paid off and she was right. Ours was the only one smothered with four cheeses. The kids all seemed to like ours over the other recipes. Some of the adults preferred the twist on tradition as well. There were some great recipes to compete with. We narrowly missed out on a ribbon placing fourth. But, we had so much fun making it and watching others smile when they ate it. Darren & Sidney ~ Chestermere
Crock Pot Pepperoni Pizza ChiliIngredients• 1 kilo lean ground beef • 3-16 ounce can of mixed beans, drained and rinsed • 3-15 ounce can pizza sauce (we used gar-lic/basil style)• 1-15 ounce can Italian stewed tomatoes • 1-litre beef broth • 1- 500 g package pepperoni diced • 1 chopped green, red and yellow pep-per. (spicy Jalapeños or Serrano peppers optional)• 3 teaspoons pizza seasoning • 1 bag of Shredded 3 cheese (pizza style) • ½ cup parmesan cheese
Directions• In a large saucepan, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink. • Drain well. • Sautee diced pepperoni. We cut ours into small triangles like pizza slices.• Drain well.• Add all ingredients except cheese to Crock pot. • Cook on low for 8 hours.• Just before serving, stir in ¾ of cheese. Garnish top with remaining ¼.Enjoy!

Dear Life Lines:
I am so overwhelmed with my new baby and keep hoping that my husband will help out more. What can I do? I’m losing my patience and my mind! Signed Overtired and Overworked
Dear O.O.;
Congratulations on your new baby. It’s a huge adjustment when there is a new addition to the household. It takes a while to transition from the ‘just the two of us’ way of life, but by making some subtle changes in your approach you might find it a bit easier to deal more successfully with these adjustments. You mentioned that you hope that your husband will help out more. Have you taken any steps to discuss this directly with him? I hope that I will win the lottery some day, but if I don’t purchase a ticket, no matter how much I’m hoping, it just isn’t going to happen. In order for your husband to ‘get the ticket’ and even realize that a problem exists for you (perhaps he doesn’t have a problem with the way things are transitioning for himself) you need to share your experience with him in words and maybe even a demonstration. Visual explanations might go a longer way than just with words. You might invite him to see some of the challenges that you are facing as a new mother. For instance, if you are having trouble finding time to grab a shower or even grab a meal with a colicky baby on your hip, you might want him to see what you experience and then to brainstorm some ideas together about how things could be made easier with his involvement. You might be surprised at how eager he is to help make things easier for you when you include him in on the brainstorming and planning in a positive way. He will soon realize that making your life easier has several benefits to his experience as a new father and husband as well. You might want to make mention of some of these positive by products to him. If you expect certain things without any discussion, invariably you will have far more frustrating results and end up in a battle with your husband. Perhaps you have found yourself in this situation already. By holding in your frustrations and behaving in a passive-aggressive way, it might pit the two of you against each other in a competition to see who is hard done by the most. Alternatively, taking a proactive stance can be beneficial to everyone. If you can tackle the challenges it will be that much more of a positive experience for you when both working together as a team and openly discussing your experiences. It helps to say how you feel and what you would like to happen such as “I love the fact that you have time to go to wings every Wednesday night, and I would love a chance to get out of the house and hang out with my friends every week too. When would be the best time for that to work for us? What are your thoughts?” It might sound hokey, but it’s worth a try when considering the alternative ways of dealing with the situation such as making demands out of anger, withholding, feeling resentful or purposefully being mean or disrespectful to your spouse. Try to approach your mate when you both might be most receptive. You don’t want to do this right after work or at a time that you are feeling overwhelmed. You might also want to start looking for a reliable and loving babysitter so that you and your partner might be able to get out of the house together on a regular, scheduled basis. Sit down, make a plan together and put it on the calendar. Hope this helps! Invest like a marathoner: save your emo-tions for the finish line
An old saying holds that investing is a marathon, not a sprint. And just like marathon runners, long-term in-vestors can experience the emotional ups and downs of running long distances — from euphoria when they’re ahead to discouragement if they slip behind or stumble. Managing those feelings is the key to en-durance and crossing the finish line.We assess the suitability of mutual funds and other investments in your portfolio based on how consis-tent their performance is over the long term, and how well a fund’s characteristics suit your investment timeline, goals, and risk tolerance. To do this, we look for professional mutual fund managers who manage risk in many ways, such as through diversification of assets and holding true to their mandate and management style through chang-ing market conditions.
Keep your perspectiveDuring challenging investing years, financial profes-sionals stress the importance of maintaining a long-term perspective in making investment decisions — whatever the market conditions. Markets can re-bound dramatically after a period of losses, produc-ing a respectable average compound annual return for those who stayed invested. This suggests that performance of any one mutual fund or asset class in any one year matters far less than the performance of your entire portfolio over many years.
Diversified portfolios gain over timeA balanced approach is used for many investment plans. For long-term investors, a goal may be to build an “all-weather” portfolio that does well when the sun shines, yet is positioned to withstand damage from the occasional storm.Historically, such mutual fund portfolios have deliv-ered superior returns over time. For example, the Morningstar Canada balanced global index of mutual funds — 60% in equities and 40% in fixed income — made money in 18 of the 22 years from its inception in 1985 through 2007. Annual returns ranged from a loss of 6.5% to an eye-popping gain of 43.8%. The 22-year average compound annual return was 9.4%.
Emotions can mislead youWhat’s been dubbed “the cycle of market emotions”
is an investor’s worst enemy because it can promptirrational behaviour to sell investments at a low point. As markets climb, the cycle starts with opti-mism followed by excitement, thrill, and euphoria as prices soar — prompting people to buy at the top. As markets decline, the cycle responds with anxi-ety, denial, fear, and panic. Near the bottom, dis-couragement may drive people to sell low. Eventu-ally, as markets start to recover, the cycle begins anew, with hope and relief on the way up.Where do you now stand in this cycle?
Your timeline matters the mostMarket fluctuations are inevitable, but you can still win in volatile markets with the right strategy and a portfolio of mutual funds or investments chosen for their long-term potential. Professional guidance can help keep your investment strategy properly aligned with your long-term goals.

The early Rise in Mortgage Rates has given a Boost to Housing Sales. The Spring Market has come early to Calgary. NOW is a good time to list your home. The housing market enjoyed a healthy boost in March as homebuyers anticipated an earlier than expected rise in inter-est rates, according to figures released by the Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB®).” “The improved economic conditions, better employment prospects, and an earlier than expected rise in mortgage rates are all contributing to this early boost in sales this year.”

Economic Down Turn…Is Your Credit At Risk?
With the economy still not recovering as quickly as hoped, I have been getting more and more calls from clients that have been deeply affected by either losing their jobs, having their hours reduced consider-ably, or have been laid off indefinitely. One of many uncertainties facing these clients and their families is how their mortgage and other bills are going to get paid with limited or no income. Because these calls are becoming so common these days, I felt this issue warranted more exposure.
When faced with a financial crisis, one of the last things we think about, understandably, is our credit rating. Unfortunately, the banks and creditors are not very compassionate, and during times of financial turmoil they don’t generally offer any kind of salvation. This is where I may be able to help.
If you own a home, and have a significant amount of equity, you may be able to buy yourself and/or your family some time until you get back on your feet again. This can be done by taking out a second mort-gage, and using the funds to finance your everyday living expenses including your mortgage, vehicle loan, and making the minimum payments on your credit cards as an example. By doing this, you ensure that your day to day living expenses are met, as well as continuing to meet your monthly obligations.
This translates into maintaining an excellent rating with your credit grantors, and this will enable you in qualifying for future credit when your financial stability has been regained. As always, I welcome any calls or emails regarding this issue or any mortgage questionsyou may have.

What is fear? Fear is not always adap-tive. A small amount of fear before an important speech serves a purpose – it encourages you to focus on your topic and avoid making a fool of yourself. This is one of the types of fear that can be useful to sharpen our minds. However, some types of fear that are excessive
can become crippling,When fear gets out of con-trol, or when we fear some-thing that cannot actually harm us, it can escalate to a point where it effects our daily functioning. These types of fears are very common. They are interesting to read about. Do some research.

A CEO throwing a party takes his execu-tives on a tour of his opulent mansion. In the back of the property, the CEO has the largest swimming pool any of them has ever seen. The huge pool, however, is filled with hungry alligators. The CEO says to his executives “I think an executive should be measured by courage. Courage is what made me CEO. So this is my challenge to each of you: if anyone has enough courage to dive into the pool, swim through those alligators, and make it to the other side, I will give that person anything they de-sire. My job, my money, my house, any-thing!” Everyone laughs at the outrageous of-fer and proceeds to follow the CEO on the tour of the estate. Suddenly, they
hear a loud splash. Everyone turns around and sees the CFO (Chief Financial Officer) in the pool, swim-ming for his life. He dodges the alligators left and right and makes it to the edge of the pool with seconds to spare. He pulls himself out just as a huge alligator snaps at his shoes. The flabbergasted CEO approaches the CFO and says, “You are amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. You are brave beyond measure and anything I own is yours. Tell me what I can do for you. The CFO, panting for breath, looks up and says, “You can tell me who the heck pushed me in the pool!”
