Hi everyone, I am Terri Barton your new President of the AMTA Georgia Chapter. Can you believe that we are already into September! My goodness so many

things have happened in our Chapter as well as AMTA as a whole. Where do we begin?

The June membership and education meeting held on June 26th in Lithia Springs was such a wonderful experience. The theme of our meeting was summer fun. There were lei’s, flip flops, floaters, beach towels, and even floats. One could not help but smile when they entered the room.

James Waslaski was our education presenter on the topic of Massage for Complicated Shoulder, Forearm,Wrist, and Hand Conditions. His class was so exciting and informative. James and his teacher assistants were really on top of their game. I, for one cannot wait to have him back to teach a different area of the body. Not only is James a wonderful educator, he also donated over $500 of various DVD’s, work books, and even a gift certificate for our fund raiser. Be sure to check our website, www.amtaga.org for a listing of all of our education classes in which we offer.

Angie Patrick spoke to our chapter about the benefits of research provided by the Massage Therapy Foundation. The name may sound familiar to you because Angie is our contact with Massage Warehouse. Angie donated not just one, but two massage chairs to be given away. James Waslaski bought the first ticket for a chance at the massage chair, and he put the intention out that he was going to win it, and he did. Here is the best part, he donated the chair to his church. Along with raffles, we had door prizes with donations from the chapter and Kneads.

Linda Christie gave a wonderful report to inform our chapter of the direction in which National is headed and updates for the upcoming National convention. Folks, be sure to look at the National website, www.amtamassage.org. There are so many things happening, and a new look to the AMTA logo.

I want each and every one of you to know that the Georgia Chapter is about you and for you. The board of directors work for you. My door, or rather my phone is always open. If you have a question, please call me (770)548-8093, or email me at [email protected]. I want us to have fun and to learn. To take our profession to the outer limits. We are proud of what we do, and we are members of a most wonderful organization which is in the forefront of research. I want each and every one of us to feel as if AMTA is an extension of our family. I wish each of you Health, Happiness, and Well Being.

In sincere service to the members,

Terri Barton

is celebrating its 30th Anniversary

The school was founded in 1980, midtown Atlanta, by owner Leticia Allen and then partner, Farra Allen. Leticia Allen experienced body work for the first time in a polarity session. The power of touch in that session made a dramatic impact. A

year later Leticia met Farra, who also shared passion and belief in “the power of touch”. Together they were inspired to start a school. Leticia, then, set a goal - to make massage therapy as readily avail-able as a haircut. Her dream has come to life. Quality, high standards and continuous improvement are reflected in the school’s programs, facility and equipment. The school’s longevity is also attributed to Leticia’s attention to the day to day while keeping a pulse on the future. She has always been looking ahead of the curve concerning massage trends and more recently the growth within the spa industry.Atlanta School of Massage will have a 30th anniversary celebration for graduates and friends on Monday, November 8th 4-7pm. Graduates will have a chance to reconnect with the ASM community. Students will provide free chair massages and makeup consultations. In September graduates will be able to enter a raffle to win prizes donated by Biotone,

Jane Iredale and the grand prize, an Oakworks Portal Pro 3 Chair Package. As part of the 30th anniversary cel-ebration the schools teaching clinic was redesigned and given a new name, SensAbility. Its new atmo-sphere provides a more calm and relaxing experience. An eco-friendly approach was taken when choosing the paint, carpet and furnishings. In appreciation and celebration of the schools’ graduates they are given the gift of an ongoing 30% discount towards massage and skin care treat-ments at SensAbility.Atlanta School of Massage is taking steps towards reducing its carbon footprint and water usage. Leticia has pledged to focus on sustainabil-ity. As a member of the Green Spa Network, the school has committed to “promoting the vital connec-tions between personal well being, resource sustainability and the health of our planet.” Be on the lookout for an exciting new website design, the revival of the blog and the launch of an official Facebook page initiatives that will strengthen the ASM community.

a Message From: The Chapter Volunteer Orientation Program

At the beginning of July, I took the opportunity to attend the 8th Annual Chapter Volunteer Orientation Program or CVOP in Evanston, Illinois. CVOP provides chapter volunteers with a familiarity of Association basics and policies, resources to help run a chapter, and an opportunity to network face-to-face with other chapter leaders from around the nation. Now this may sound like a bunch of boring meetings, but we really had a fun time:

- meeting interesting people; - participating in various activities and sessions, and; - speaking face-to-face with AMTA staff.

I had only ever communicated with through email or telephone, touring the AMTA national office in downtown Evanston, all while learning how to better serve you, the Members. Which brings me to the most important thing I learned at CVOP: We are a community of massage therapists and our members come first . As chapter volunteers, we are here to serve you . If you have any suggestions on how we may better serve

you, please tell us and please take advantage of all that AMTA offers to strengthen your practice, your profession and your community.

McKeever’s First Ride

Our GA AMTA members

volunteered in June at Chastain

Horse Park for McKeever’s

First Ride. Erika Larson was

instrumental in this endeavor.

She contacted the outreach

chair, Ben Glosson to see if

the Chapter could supply our

members for this event. Six

of our members showed up

with 5 chairs and 1 table plus

smiles all around. Liz Willets,

Erika Larson, Kelly Diodati, Ben

Glosson, Carol Thompson and

Mary Lou Ross came on their off

day to administer healing touch

to physically and mentally

challenged individuals ages

6 and up . We also had great

fellowship and exchanged

ideas. All had a great time.

We look forward to when

we can be of service again

and hope you will take a look

for the opportunities in your

neighborhoods to be of service.

Let us all get the word out for
