That is why we have launched our new
online booking tool, the Good Travel
Manager, which is designed to help
companies get the best of both worlds
- the convenience of booking online
combined with the peace of mind of
using an experienced travel
management company.
The Good Travel Manager has been
specifically designed to enable employees
to book their own travel online, but at the
same time allows companies to set
parameters on costs to better control
their spend.
And by allowing comparisons to be made
at every point in the booking process -
between different modes of transport,
travelling at different times, and plotting
alternative routes - the tool can lead to
significant savings.
David North, product development manager
at Good Travel Management, said the tool
brought a number of advantages to
companies that had people travelling to
different places on a regular basis.
He said: “With the Good Travel Manager
you can book 24/7, which means you don’t
have to wait for a response from your travel
request to find out the best deals available.
It allows you to look at all the options available
New Online Tool helps yousave money and time
At Good Travel Management we know flexibility isan important feature when it comes to bookingbusiness travel.
at the same time, meaning employees can
make quick, informed decisions about travel
and accommodation.”
David added that as well as total
transparency, employers can set
parameters that ensure all travel purchased
is in line with the company’s policy.
“If the policy only allows employees to travel
standard Class on UK Rail then we can set
the site up not to allow anyone to book a
first class ticket,” he said.
“The same is true for accommodation. If,
for example, the company’s policy stipulates
a maximum spend of £90 per night, we
can set the tool up to prevent anyone going
over that limit.”
Vitally, David added, the tool still provides
all the benefits of employing a professional
travel management company and can
be used in conjunction with Good Travel
Management’s professional offline
service too.
“For example, we offer 24/7 emergency
assistance to clients who use our offline
services or the Good Travel Manager,” he
said. “We keep you updated with events
such as strikes and natural disasters across
the world that might affect your employees’
ability to travel and work out alternative
routes if necessary.
“Crucially, in whatever way you
choose to work with us, we are there
to help you get the best out of your
corporate travel in terms of cost,
efficiency and security. You simply
can’t get that level of service via
the internet, unless you are using
the Good Travel Manager tool.”

Senior Travel ConsultantSamantha Tyers went off thebeaten track in Turkey todiscover more about thisancient country’s history. Here’swhat she made of her trip...
from the poles and juxtaposed against the
golden sand of the desert. It makes for
both an eerie and beautiful sight.
It was over Cappadocia that we decided
to take a hot air balloon ride, conducted by
experienced pilots, to view the landscape
from above. It was a highlight of the journey
and one of the most incredible experiences
of my life.
Our trip then took us west to the ancient
city of Ephesus, famed for its magnificent
Artemis, and Bergama in the western
district of Izmir Province, where the city’s
ruins, dating back thousands of years, are
like a Mecca to tourists searching for the
real Turkey.
Accommodation ranged from four star hotels,
including the Alfina Cave Hotel, to simple
guesthouses and the food is traditional,
authentic Turkish. We ended this fantastic
trip on a high with two nights in Istanbul
where there is enough to do to keep even
the biggest history buff entertained and
attractions such as the museum and the
Grand Bazaar are a must see.
Think Turkey and an image of a Mediterraneancoastline, warm, sandy beaches and water as blueand clear as a sapphire usually comes to mind.

Ballooning over Cappadocia was anexperience of a lifetime for Senior TravelConsultant Samantha Tyers.
But that is not all there is to this ancient
meeting point between Europe and Asia.
An important stop off along the old Silk
Road - the traditional trading route between
East and West - the country boasts an
impressive history and culture if you leave
behind the tourist resorts that line the coast
and journey inland.
After a pleasant flight with Turkish Airlines
we started our trip in Cappadocia in
Anatolia, a semi arid region of central Turkey.
The landscape is desolate and littered with
reminders of civilisations that have long
since gone. Historians believe people
settled in the region as far back as the late
6th Century and evidence of their influence
is all around you, but it is showcased best
at the Goreme Open Air Museum, which
features churches and chapels carved into
the soft volcanic rock dated from the 9th -
11th Centuries.
But Cappadocia’s natural features also
made for impressive viewing. The fairy
chimneys near Goreme, formed by
millennia of rock erosion, are as jagged
as they are breathtaking and the
mushroom-shaped pillars at Pashabagi
cast strange shapes against the brown,
sandy backdrop, convincing you, if you
needed to be convinced, you are in a very
exotic land indeed.
Pamukkle’s famous mineral thermal water
spas, with their white sedimentary rocks
sprawling out across the arid landscape
look as though a glacier has been lifted

Students set to fly high withGood Travel Management
So as Good Travel Management continues
to grow, we knew we needed to develop
more high quality employees with the
understanding and skills to deal with our
corporate clients that have exacting needs,
and often spend thousands of pounds with
us. And with an absence of them in the
jobs market, we decided there was only
one solution ... create our own.
Recruiting new blood into the corporate travel world can bedifficult due to a tendency to source talent from within theindustry and because of the lack of formal training courseson offer. Indeed, the majority of courses available to youngpeople interested in a career in the travel industry centre onleisure and tourism and don’t prepare them for working incorporate travel.
North of England and the Midlands and ifsuccessful, will gain both an NVQ as wellas technical qualifications called the‘Certificate of Travel Services’. The studentsenrolled in the inaugural course in Marchand will take around one year to completeit, hopefully leading to employmentopportunities for them within the Good TravelManagement Group.
Julie Ornsby, senior operations manager atGood Travel Management, alongside SaraJenkinson, senior travel consultant andformer lecturer at Hull College, have beeninstrumental in setting up the new courseand directing the content. Students studya range of subjects aimed at corporatetravel including arranging air travel andground requirements, to personal skillssuch as customer service, creating a goodimpression to corporate clients andeffectiveness in the workplace.
Julie said: “It is so important that the peoplewho work for us have a solid grounding incorporate travel because the industry isvery different to the leisure travel business. We have provided work experience toseveral Hull College students in the pastand have always been impressed with them,so much so that a number are employedat the company now.
“But as our requirements for staff continuesto grow, we decided we needed to be moreinvolved with their training and that is whywe have decided to partner with HullCollege. We believe the course that we’vecreated will give the students the thoroughgrounding necessary for them to succeedin the corporate travel industry.”
Course assessor Claire Davison added:“The college’s main aim is to ensure allstudents leave with the greatest chance ofemployment we can possibly give themand this course really plays into that.
“There is a growing demand for qualifiedbusiness travel consultants so we aredelighted to able to offer this as part of ourgrowing prospectus.”
With that in mind, we teamed up with Hull
College to create a bespoke apprenticeship
scheme tailored specifically for corporate
travel students, combining classroom
teaching delivered at the College’s KC
Stadium Campus, with office based
assessments. Our first intake of four
students have been recruited from
throughout our network of operations in the
Kevin Harrison, Good Travel Management, Claire Davison, Hull College, Jack Lloyd, MollyGlazebrook, Chelsea Gill, Chloe Hanlon and Sara Jenkinson, all Good Travel Management.
