The newsletter for Wallabadah Public School and its community
“Excellence in Learning”
Term 3, Week 6 ~ 26 August 2016
Christopher Jackson Small School “BIG” Opportunities!
Principal
This term, our school has undertaken self-assessment using the elements of the School
Excellence Framework. The process of external validation is an important component of
a system-wide approach to school excellence. Schools regularly self-assess their
improvement efforts using evidence to support their reflections. Every five years, an
external validation panel considers the school's evidence providing assurance to the
school and the system, that the progress being made aligns with the standards
articulated in the School Excellence Framework. On Tuesday, the external validation
team, lead by Mrs Lyn Gray, will be visiting the school to talk to our Teaching team for
about two hours. Over the past three weeks I have compiled evidence to support our
school’s self-assessment. At the next P&C meeting I will be working through this
evidence highlighting the successes of Wallabadah Public School and outlining where
we plan to go next.
Some of you may remember when completing our Term Survey during Parent Teacher
interviews there was a question about the “New look” Wallaby Whisper. Many
responses and comments were very favourable. I would like to publically acknowledge
Mrs Gray’s amazing efforts to showcase each week what we do at Wallabadah School. It
is truly an amazing document. If you don’t receive a hard copy of the Wallaby Whisper
on Friday it is available on SkoolBag, on our school website or via email.

Thank you to all of our school community and visitors who attended our Open Day on
Tuesday. There was such a fantastic community atmosphere in the air! We hope you all
enjoyed the day and our showcase as much as we did.

Lunch Orders
Thank you to Cheryl Bray for making the lunches this week. Karen Frost will be making the
lunches on Monday 29 August 2016.
Fruit and Vegetables Week
Next week our focus is Fruit and Vegetables week. Useful ideas on how to increase the fruit and
vegetables in our diets can be found at http://www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org
Crunch and Sip is one way to do this. Please send in with your children
a snack of fresh fruit or vegetables. The whole school eats their snack
at the start of the day. Please remember that dried fruit, jellied fruit
and additions such as cream or spreads/dips are not appropriate.
First Aid
Please remind your children that if they are unwell or hurt at school they need to tell a teacher and first
aid will be administered. Students are not to provide medication to other students.
Touch Football
Congratulations! Our team is through to Sydney in the PSSA Small Schools
Touch Football competition. They will be heading to Sydney on Thursday 22
September 2016. Parents have been very proactive and have organised a
raffle to pay for the costs associated with this trip. Raffle tickets were sent
home this week.
Training will be held on Tuesday and Thursday at 2:45pm and 2:10pm on Friday.
Building Work
Work has started on our Kitchen. We have reminded children that they need to be
careful around this area. The Kitchen and its immediate surroundings is an out of
bounds area while building work is taking place. Please make sure you enter the
school through the front gate.
During this week’s session we asked the questions “Has
there ever been a time when you needed to zip it and
listen?” “Why is it important to do this?” We had a great
discussion and response from children with comments such
as:
When someone is hurt.
When someone is sad.
When Mum and Dad are in a conversation you wait till
they’ve finished talking.
When you listen to the teacher to find out what to do.
When you’re saddling the horse so you don’t do it all
wrong.
