My name is Nicholas Fattore and I am the new Sage of Sigma Pi Beta Chapter. I had the pleasure of meeting several alumni at our Homecoming luncheon and hope to meet many more throughout the upcoming year.

Beta Chapter excelled this past semester. After being dealt a tricky hand due to an abbreviated rush process, the rush committee made the best out of the situation. Thirty-one new members joined the chapter and are poised to make a positive impact on the house. The fall 2016 pledge class stretches from San Diego, California to Fairfield, Connecticut, with a strong showing from Illinois and Indiana.

Our philanthropy committee has been hard at work planning the second annual Last Man Standing boxing tournament, which benefits the American Cancer Society (ACS). The tournament, to be held this spring, is already projected to feature more fighters and Greek organizations than last year's 24 fighters from 20 chapters. This year, prospective fighters will be receiving lessons from Golden Glove winning boxers and will also be able to obtain USA Boxing certificates.

After raising nearly $20,000 last year for the ACS, the committee has their eyes set on reaching $40,000 this year. If you would like to help us reach our goal, please make a donation at https://iu.crowdchange.co/fundraiser/278.

Homecoming 2016 kicked off at the chapter house prior to the IU vs. Nebraska football game on October 15, 2016, with a great lunch and meeting. Over 20 alumni representing every decade from the 1950s to the 2000s in addition to many undergraduate members were in attendance.

JJ Van Eekeren '16 (Sage for 2015-2016) and his Executive Council gave an excellent overview of the status of the Chapter. Brother Van Eekeren then introduced the incoming 2016-

2017 Executive Council.

Alumni, members and guests were presented an update on the facility plan, financial status of the Chapter and future projects. Afterward, many alumni lingered at the house to reminisce about their days in the chapter.

Overall, the event was deemed a success by those in attendance. Plans are being worked out for a spring event. Details, as they become available, will be posted to sigmapibetaalumni.org and sent via email.

Homecoming Reception at the Chapter House - October 15, 2016

Dining Room Chair and Funds for Renovations

Congratulations 2016 Hall of Fame Inductees

Beta Chapter continues to seek donations to build 80-100 very special dining room chairs as well as raise money to continue to renovate the chapter house. Eighteen chairs are already made and being used in the dining room. Another three are in the process of being crafted now.

The chair design is based on the famous Arts and Crafts period Gustav Stickely #312 V Back dining room chair. It is hand-built of quarter sawn white oak with mortise and tenon construction making it extremely strong. The dark stain is a perfect contrast to the lighter flake grain of the quarter sawn white oak.

The upper back features the Greek letters ΣΠ carved on the inside. On the outside, in Arts and Craft style lettering, your name and Beta number will be inscribed (or that of the brother you are donating it in memory of or your pledge class name and year).

Dan Wilcox '71, who has been heading up and doing most of the work on the "Emerald Lodge" portion of the renovations to the chapter house for the last four plus years, makes each chair by hand.

If you donate $1,500 or more, you can have a chair made in your name or in memory of another brother. Another idea is for a pledge class to come together to raise the funds necessary to have a chair made in the pledge class' name. Donations of any amount are accepted and will go towards the continuing renovations of the house.

To donate, send a check made payable to Sigma Pi Beta Chapter Housing Corporation to:

Debra Moore, CPA Olson & Company, PC 1505 W Bloomfield Rd PO Box 488 Bloomington, IN 47402

If you have any questions or need help with contact information for your pledge class / organizing a donation, please contact John Huybers '90 at [email protected] or (317) 496-4216.

The Sigma Pi Beta Chapter Hall of Fame Award honors outstanding alumni for their achievements and service to fellow human beings and Sigma Pi. It has become a permanent part of the history and tradition of Beta Chapter.

Inductees are selected based upon several factors, including success in their professional career, commitment to philanthropy, community and Sigma Pi - whether at the national or chapter level.

Congratulations to Charles Boyle '74 and Donald Hollinger '74, the 2016 Hall of Fame Inductees. Beta Chapter honored these men at the 2016 Founders' Day event.
