UNITED METHOD MEN

The Congregation’s response to this UMYF and UMM Fundraiser “Lunch / Dessert Auction”

through your attendance, participation, and contribution was heartwarming.

We can’t say enough about the way Ted Phillips, John Teague, and Wendell Agnew “worked” the

crowd, making it fun and keeping those bids always getting a little bit higher as Kenny Griffin and

Grayson Lane kept those desserts moving. A special thanks, of course, to our wonderful cooks that

took time to make their special recipe which made the fundraiser a SUCCESS!

The UMM will be able to use those funds to support many worthy causes such as the Red Bird

Mission Building Project.

UMW NEWS

Congratulations to Nina Gay Segroves and Pat Sherrill,

our latest recipients of missions recognition from our chapter.

Nine of us attended the mission study on the three special conferences of the United Methodist Church at Pleasant Grove UMC on Saturday, April 21. The study was led by Joyce Clark.

Joyce will lead one of the studies at Mission University at St. Marks UMC in Murfreesboro. Mission University will be July 12 and 13. Rheaetta has applications for these informative classes.

The next UMW meeting is Tuesday, May 8. Executive meeting at 10:15 and the general meeting at 11:00. Trish Hubbard has lined up a wonderful program on lessons learned from beehives. Circle V will no doubt, dazzle us with their culinary skill.

Speaking of culinary skills, the UMW is grateful to Andy Borders for our delicious meal at our April meeting. Andy never disappoints and the UMW is so happy that he graces us with his gifts.

For everything there is a season,

and a time for every matter under

heaven…

Three years ago our Staff-Parish Relations

Committee embarked on a new adventure as we

partnered with the Center for Youth Ministry

Training. Out of that partnership, we have been

blessed to have Alden Procopio as our Director of

Student Ministries. Alden has helped to shape our

youth ministries program so that our youth are

finding their place as leaders within the

congregation and in worship. She has offered

leadership with our Christian Education ministries

and support to our Wesley’s Warriors. Each week

she has provided age appropriate Sunday school

curriculum for our children and youth, leadership

on Wednesday evenings, and activities for United

Methodist Youth Fellowship. She attended

countless sporting events, concerts, and recitals to

offer support and encouragement to “her peeps” in

their daily lives. Alden set aside time for

fellowship together in settings other than church,

home, or school. She helped expand the youth

and congregation’s world-view through mission

opportunities and experiences. Alden has done

this all while being a full-time seminary student.

...a time to break down, and a time to build up;

a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance…

And so we come to a time when we can celebrate

all that has been accomplished and all that is yet

to be. Alden will graduate on May 12 and will be

leaving us to join the staff at Emmanuel United

Methodist Church in Memphis. Together we have

learned and grown so very much.

Join us for a reception

honoring

Alden Procopio

It’s Up to You

God gave you this day to do just what you

would.

You can throw it away - - or do some good.

You can make someone happy, or make

someone sad.

What have you done with the day that you had?

God gave it to you to do just as you would.

You can do what is wicked, or do what is good.

You can hand out a smile, or just give ‘em a

frown.

You can lift someone up, or push someone

down.

You can lighten some load, or some progress

impede.

You can look for a rose, or just gather some

weed.

What did you do with your beautiful day?

God gave it to you, did you throw it away?
