The news in TAS 31 July - 2019 ACSA Aged Care Awards (TAS) Date: 31 July Time: 5.30pm – 7.30pm Location: Hotel Grand Chancellor, 1 Davey St, Hobart TAS 7000 Price: $50 per person for members $90 per person for non-members The 2019 ACSA Aged Care Awards will celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions made by organisations, teams and individuals in the aged care industry throughout the year. This year, there are seven award categories - with winners from each state and territory forming the list of nominees for ACSA’s 2019 National Aged Care Awards, to be presented during the organisation’s 32nd National Summit, being held in Melbourne from 8-10 October. $90 per person for non-members The 2019 ACSA Aged Care Awards will celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions made by organisations, teams and individuals in the aged care industry throughout the year. 23 July - Webinar: Use of Psychotropic Medications/Restrictive Practices Date: 23 July Time: 12pm (one hour) This webinar is aimed at Clinical Staff and those involved in medication administration and management Presented by Leanne Askey-Doran who is a Senior Accredited Pharmacist and second-in-charge to the CEO. She has been an accredited pharmacist for 11 years and prior to joining Meditrax in 2010, worked in a variety of hospital and retail pharmacy roles throughout 5 states/territories of Australia. She has owned a retail pharmacy servicing aged care facilities and brings this amongst her other experience to Meditrax. She is based in the Meditrax Office 2-3 days a week responding to facility clinical and legislative enquiries and oversees and edits the writing of the majority of Meditrax’ clinical and educational resources. Like all the pharmacists at Meditrax, she is passionate about empowering nursing and care staff in areas of medication use and management to facilitate the best possible outcomes for each individual aged care resident. 6 September - 2019 Tasmanian Training Awards Nominations for this year’s Tasmanian Training Awards - the awards for excellence in vocational education and training and workforce development - are now open. There are 14 categories, including seven individual awards, four business awards and three equity awards. Awards include:

• Apprentice of the Year • Trainee of the Year • Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year • Vocational Student of the Year • School-based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year • VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year • VET in Schools Student of the Year* • Industry Collaboration Award • Small Employer of the Year • Employer of the Year • Training Provider of the Year • Equity Apprentice/Trainee of the Year* • Equity Vocational Student of Year* • Equity Employer of the Year*

*There are no national equivalents to the VET in Schools Student of the Year award or the three Equity awards. The awards will be presented at a dinner to be held at Wrest Point on 6 September, and winners (in aligned categories) will have the opportunity to represent Tasmania at the 2019 Australian Training Awards - to be held in Brisbane on 21 November.
