Kids Against Hunger is a food relief organization that unifies teams of people who package a specialized rice based soy casserole mixture which is used locally and overseas. It is based on a simple principle of people helping people, in this instance, even kids! Kids Against Hunger not only nourishes hungry children and families, but the spirits of the volunteers who pack the meals! The Pella Community Food Shelf is currently putting together Thanksgiving boxes for families in the area. These boxes contain all the ingredients for a full Thanksgiving dinner including turkey, sides and dessert. This year they are preparing to hand out approximately 175 boxes. Federated has agreed to help! As a church family we need to collect at least 175 cans of canned yams! Please drop of any cans to the church office by November 17. Come join the fun at our annual Thanksgiving Potluck Sunday, November 23. Please arrive at 5:30pm so that we can set out all of the yummy dishes and we will begin eating at 6pm. The church will provide ham, turkey, gravy, rolls, table service, & drinks. We are asking you to bring enough veggies, salad, or dessert to feed twice the number of people in your party. Please RSVP via our website or on the sign-up sheet at the church. Want to help us set up? Stay after the service that day and we’ll find a job for you! Hope to see you there!

LADIES, SAVE THE DATE! December 8 is our annual Christmas event. This year we will have a Mingle & Jingle. There will be a time for fellowship and punch from 5:30-6pm followed by a catered meal. Sign up this Sunday! You can also sign up to decorate a table. Cost is $15 when you arrive that night, $10 if you decorate a table.

Do you have story of how you saw God at work this fall? Share it with us! If you would like to submit an article for Federated's quarterly newsletter, the Rock, please send it to [email protected] by November 17 to be approved.

A few times a year Federated has the opportunity to serve lunch to the homeless in Downtown Des Moines at the CONNECTION CAFE. This opportunity is perfect for small groups or a few families! The next date will be Saturday, November 29. A small group prepares a lunch then goes to the Connection Cafe in Des Moines and serves lunch while fellowshipping with those who come to the cafe. If you are interested in helping serve please email the church office at [email protected]. If you are unable to go to Des Moines that day but would like to help you can donate food for the lunch, make desserts, help cook, or donate funds to buy ingredients, just let the church office know!

Women’s Ministry will have a new study on Sunday mornings @ 8:30am beginning November 16. They will go through Lysa TerKeurst’s book “Unglued: Making Wise Choices in the Midst of Raw Emotions.” If interested please sign up in the foyer on Sunday or online.

MEN’S STUDY: It’s not too late to join 33-The Series! A new 6 week series, “A Man and His Story” will begin on Wednesday, November 19. We will meet @ 7pm in Room 201. Pella Pro Life will be having their cookie walk on December 11th. They are in need of volunteers who would like to bake cookies for the event. If you would like to help by baking cookies please contact Christine Blauw at [email protected] by November 10.

A CHRISTMAS TOUR OF HOMES on Saturday, November 29, will feature five beautifully decorated homes in the Sully area hosted by Sully First Reformed Church as a fundraiser for its Legacy Building Project. The tour will be 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and tickets are available at the church office, Hometown Press in Sully, The Sanctuary in Pella, Stepping Stones in Grinnell, and at Choices in Newton. Tickets are $12 in advance and will be $15 the day of the tour. The ticket includes the tour of homes, tea time at the church, the craft bazaar, and cookie sale. Christmas with Selah is Saturday, November 29 at Vermeer Auditorium in Pella Christian High School. You are invited to make a shoebox gift for Operation Christmas Child. The south central Iowa area collected over 1100 boxes last year with this Samaritan’s Purse project. These gifts will be shipped to children around the world in need of the gift of hope and the gospel message. Please include appropriate gifts such as a small stuffed toy, ball, paper, pens, sunglasses, t-shirt, toy jewelry, toy trucks, etc. in a shoebox, label boy or girl and age category of 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14. The 14th FREE Thanksgiving Meal put on by First Reformed Church will be Nov. 27. The meal is served from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Meals are also prepared for carry out and to deliver. Last year we served over 360 meals! Volunteers are generally home by 3:00 pm. We don’t turn down help! Everyone gets to do something, so come and be a part of this wonderful outreach event.
