What is the Newbery?
The Newbery Medal is an honor given to outstanding children’s books each year by the American Library Association. Books can receive the medal only for the year published.

How it all began... In 1921, the idea for the award was
presented to the Library Association, and named for an eighteenth century bookseller by the name of John Newbery.
