AIM$OF$THE$PROJECT$To!educate!young!people!and!raise!student!achievement.!

AIM$OF$THE$PROJECT$To!provide!a!homely!and!positive!environment!for!teenage!girls!to!excel!within!their!lives!and!studies!at!Wanganui!Girls’!College.!!

VOLUNTEER$REQUIREMENTS$Volunteers!will!need!to!be!responsible!and!great!role!models.!You!need!to!be!prepared!to!work!hard!in!many!different!roles.!This!project!is!working!to!set!up!a!lodge!that!will!be!used!for!groups!of!young!people!involved!in!various!camps.!Be!prepared!for!anything.!You!may!also!be!in!an!environment!for!young!people!who!may!require!guidance!to!‘get!back!on!track’.!You!will!need!to!be!mentally!strong,!be!able!to!engage!easily!with!teenagers!and!have!a!very!strong!work!ethic.!!VOLUNTEER$TASKS$Tasks!vary!greatly!and!will!include!work!in!a!number!of!areas!to!supply!a!complete!program!in!conjunction!with!the!NZ!Police!and!Army.!This!may!include!kitchen!and!catering!work!for!the!young!people,!cleaning,!grounds!maintenance,!building!work,!working!with!youth,!supervising!youth!on!outdoor!activity!excursions,!driving!groups.!!NUMBER$OF$ACVE$VOLUNTEERS$IN$PROJECT$4!–!male!or!female.!!HOST$SITUATION$Accommodation!is!onsite!within!a!selfScontained!unit!or!a!room!in!the!lodge.!Food!is!provided.!

VOLUNTEER$REQUIREMENTS$Volunteers!will!need!to!have!an!interest!in!environmental!and!outdoor!projects.!You!will!be!working!in!a!variety!of!roles!that!may!also!include!retail!sales!and!group!leadership!or!education,!so!an!enthusiasm!for!youth!and!community!education!is!important.!A!strong!level!of!English!is!required.!You!will!also!be!working!with!endangered!species!(Blue!Duck)!and!involved!in!the!fisheries!hatchery,!so!interest!in!animals!and!their!welfare!is!best.!You!will!need!to!throw!yourself!into!any!task!that!needs!assistance,!including!cleaning!and!maintenance.!!VOLUNTEER$TASKS$Tasks!include!aquarium!upkeep!and!working!in!the!fish!hatchery,!recovery!bird!feeding,!retail!sales,!grounds!maintenance,!cleaning!of!the!visitor!centre!and!general!upkeep,!youth!education!with!school!groups,!fly!fishing,!and!working!with!DoC!workers!(Department!of!Conservation).!!NUMBER$OF$ACVE$VOLUNTEERS$IN$PROJECT$4!–!male!and!female.!!HOST$SITUATION$Accommodation!is!in!town!(Turangi)!in!a!volunteer!house,!and!you!will!get!driven!by!staff!to!and!from!the!project!(5!min!drive!away).!You!will!be!given!supermarket!vouchers!to!selfScater.!
