There is.

Struggling teams appear ill-equipped for today’s virtual business world.
The majority of people on less successful teams don’t have these collaboration capabilities -- or they have them but don’t use them.

The ability to see if co-workers are available – just as in the office – is key to getting answers in real time.
“Presence” was one of the first key features of unified comms, but it’s limited use is surprising – and strongly correlated with team success.

See who’s on a conference call
Have it and use itIs it easier to be candid if you see who’s on the call?
Our first survey showed that those on the most successful team speak as candidly on virtual calls as in the office.
Perhaps the greater use of tools that show who’s on the call aids in candor that leads to better collaboration.

Adding someone to a conference call
15 years after the advent of unified communications, 40% of respondents still can’t click to add someone to a call.
Most collaboration on successful teams is spontaneous. So, it’s easy to see why ease of connecting correlates with team success.

Adding video
75% say it’s easier to collaborate when they can see others on the call.
While the ability to click to add video to a call is fairly common among successful teams, nearly 80% of those on less successful teams either don’t have or don’t use it.

Screen sharing / Web collaboration
Screen sharing, or web collaboration, is used by two-thirds of respondents.
With such high availability, the gap in use by more and less successful teams is telling. 19% of those on less successful teams have it, but don’t use it; 42% don’t have it.

Enterprise Chat / Social
Chat and private social media are easy ways for team members to share knowledge and ask for help – vital in successful teams.
No wonder it’s the most used tool– though nearly half of those on struggling teams don’t have or use it.

Mobile collaboration
Only about one-third (34%) of responders have access to the same collaboration functions from mobile devices as they do in the office.
Ironic, isn’t it, since so many of us need these tools specifically because we’re mobile.

Cloud file storage
Cloud-based file storage is critical for access by colleagues and partners – and for those with limited storage on mobile devices.
More of our responders were likely to use a solution not sanctioned by IT for this function than any other.

What Can You Do?
1. Lead by example:
• Flip on your video camera
• Use chat and internal social media to share info and ask for help
• To promote dialog, use your phone, rather than one-way emails
2. Make sure all team members know how to use available tools
3. If your collaboration tools are too difficult or cumbersome, look to the cloud for affordable, fully featured social collaboration apps
