Cloud Services and Big Data – is everythinggreen? Modern data centres must provide the highest performance at all times. Cloud models and the explosive rise in amounts of data require ever more effi cient data centre facilities. Many companies soon reach their limits with own data centre solutions. Growing demands for electricity and air-conditioning, increased requirements in terms of high availability and security of data as well as the necessity of the most up to date equipment lead to significant investments. It is time to consider a sustainable and efficient solution – with a strong partner.

Latest technology in the heart of Europe

BT Global Services operates more than 40 Data Centres for Managed Hosting and Cloud Services and several hundred Telehousing Sites on a global scale. In Frankfurt-Sossenheim a new Data Centre has gone live to best meet your requirements for highest availability, energy efficient, scalable computing and storage capacities as well as innovative IT services. This way, we can offer a future-proof environment for your IT. Another advantage: BT’s global IP Network provides you with access to the new Data Centre from more than 190 countries – and thus to data centre services and broadband connections from one source.

Greater Security and Business Continuity at all levels

You can rely on the latest security concepts: The resilience of the state-of-the-art BT Data Centre in Frankfurt-Sossenheim complies with Tier III+ category requirements. In combination with a redundant connection to other BT Data Centre Sites in Germany and abroad, we can also meet the highest availability requirements demanded of a Tier IV solution.

Uncompromising physical security measures and digital security solutions protect the new BT Data Centre against any threats. An uninterrupted power supply is assured by two separate feed lines from the public power grid and by two separated networks with full power capacity inside the building. Each of these networks is redun-dantly secured against power fluctuations or outages in the public grid by an emergency power supply which consists of a battery-backed Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) system and diesel generators.

Comprehensive fire prevention, early fire detection systems, fire alarm systems and fire-fighting gas systems provide protection against fire-related outages. For higher levels of redundancy, customer solutions are installed in two fire protection zones.

“ The new Data Centre will enable us to meet the ever-increasing demands for data centre services whilst also offering customers a future-proof environment for the effi cient and secure operation of their servers and data.”

BT invests energy in racks …

Designed for next generation blade server and storage systems, the new Data Centre provides circa 5,000 square meters of high density rackspace with future-proof rack sizes. All racks have already been connected through structured pre-cabling that uses standard copper and glass fibre cables.

By using shared storage systems we can ensure extremely fast delivery of Data Centre Services to you.

… and not in cooling units

The innovative equipment in the Data Centre provides for an optimal, up-to-date combination of sustainability and cost-efficiency. And on the basis of a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.3, also sets standards in terms of energy efficiency. This is achieved by, among other methods, the use of passive cooling up to an outside temperature of 22 degrees C, the use of rainwater for re-cooling and the use of waste heat from IT systems for heating the office space. The use of high efficiency cooling and UPS systems and the consistent use of modern cold aisle containment are further core components of the intelligent climate approach. The use of shared blade server systems with high levels of virtualisation and shared storage concepts also contribute to the energy efficiency of the new BT Data Centre.

Thus, the new Data Centre is expected to generate 60 % fewer CO2 emissions than traditional data centres. And furthermore the Data Centre can be reached easily and in an environmentally sound manner by using public transportation services.

“ As an operator of high-precision data correction services, we require the highest levels of quality and availability from our IT and have therefore relied on IT services from BT for many years. It is great that our technology partner has invested in such an innovative and secure data centre.”
