PARENT ACADEMY, THURSDAY 17th Nov. @09:15 Parent Academy is a great way for parents of children in Years 3,4,5,6 to find out more about what your child is learning at school and how you can help them!

I am pleased to inform you that we have 3 parent governors who have successfully been elected to the Governing Body. We received expressions of interest from 4 parents / grandparent. Unfortunately, grandparents do not qualify to become Parent Governors. As we had 3 vacancies, the remaining 3 candidates have automatically been selected.. My congratulations to our new Parent Governors. They are:

Ms Sheba Khanom, parent of Ibrahim Islam (Y4) Ms Rugina Begum, parent of Samuel Ahmed (Y1)and Rabiah Ahmed (Y5) Mr Ridouan Bakalla, parent of Adam (Y5), Sufian (Y4) and Rania (Y1)

Please find overleaf their reasons for wanting to become parent governors. I look forward to working with your representatives in improving the school further. There was much excitement yesterday as Next Jump staff came into school to launch a new Year 5 programme that will be led by them. Over the year, the Y5 children will be working on a number of modules which include business, engineering, coding and wellness. The children received their Next Jump T-shirts and were very excited about the taster session. Please do ask your child what they learnt. Huge thanks to Next Jump for their support! May I remind you that whilst we encourage children to do their homework, read every night and participate in the online Night Zookeeper programme, we would not want children to be engaged in these activities beyond their bed-time. It has come to our attention that some children are on Night Zookeeper as late as 10 pm. Children must be in bed at the appropriate hour. Please refer to our Netley expectations booklet for tips on supporting children to learn.

NEXT JUMP WORK WITH YEAR 5

We welcomed Next Jump to Netley on Thursday this week! Next Jump were working with Year 5 to kick-off their ‘Adopt a School’ initiative with Netley. The children showed Next Jump around the campus and really enjoyed working with them for the first time. We look forward to their next visit and many more to come.

‘WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE?’ ASSEMBLY

This week in our ‘Who do you want to be?’ assembly we were joined by two of the builders that have been working on the EYFS playground, Eddie and Ben. They talked to the children about what it was like to be craftsmen and how they decided that’s what they wanted to do. Eddie and Ben explained how important it is to work hard towards what you want to achieve. The children at Netley are very grateful for Eddie and Ben for coming to talk to them, and for all the hard work they and their colleagues have done.

MR. MORRIS IN SHANGHAI

You will have noticed there’s been no Mr Morris in Netley this week, and there’s a very good reason for that—Mr Morris is currently in Shanghai! In addition, documenting his trip on the website, Mr Morris has also been tweeting and posting updates of his trip via the website Padlet. Take a look at Padlet and ask Mr Morris a question!

OUR PARENT GOVERNORS

Rujina Begum—

“I have been a Parent Governor for the past four years and I would like to continue supporting the school to reach its goals, and help improve the school community and education.”

Ridouan Bakalla—

“I would like to be a Parent Governor because I’m interested in improving Netley Primary School’s education, behaviour, attendance and get parents involved.”

Sheba Khanom—

“I would love to be elected as a Parent Governor because my child attends this school and I also have been working hard for ten years. I feel proud to be a parent of Netley. I have seen the school travel through bad times and good times and I believe I can help Netley be the best it can be.”

YEAR 4 In order to compliment their work on ar-chitecture and planning year 4 went on a trip to look at the London skyline. We managed to see lots of London's famous new buildings as well as more historical ones. We did scaled designs of the Walkie-talkie and the Shard. When we got back to school we were full of ideas for our own building projects.

EYFS During this week the children in RJD have enjoyed thinking about fireworks and learning this song.

YEAR 2 This week we have been practising hard for our assembly next week! We are all really looking forward to performing the final production! In Maths this week we have been doing more practising of adding tens and ones and we can even do it using coins! So, next time you're out shopping ask us to count your change!

YEAR 5 We have made some amazing progress in dance this week! We've started to include some floor work whilst starting to find a real passion for our performance! On Thursday, we got to meet Next Jump and introduce them to our school!

YEAR 1 On Tuesday afternoon we made fresh fruit salad. As active citizens we are worried about the number of children who are off school sick. We want to encourage all the children and adults to eat healthy food so we will soon be publishing our recipes for a deli-cious fruit salad. We have also been learning about the bossy verbs used to write instructions.

WOODLANDS We have been enjoying taking part and exploring our new classroom environments during integration. Here Yaqub is helped by two friends in the nursery classroom to fill his bowl with dried pasta and glitter. Good fun was had all round!

YEAR 6 We went on our Netley Nature Walk this week! We found lots of inquisitive squirrels and spotted all of the trees on our tree hunt. We are now clear on the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees. We brought some leaves and seeds back to the classroom to add to our scrapbook. We are really looking forward to going again when it is winter!

YEAR 3 We had a wonderful time at Hampstead Heath this week! We investigated different types of rocks and soils . We have also been working very hard on learning to add numbers up to 1000 using our place value knowledge and the number line method. In English we are busy publishing our non-chronological reports about the Nepal earthquake in 2015, look out for these in our up coming school exhibition!
