What is Happiness?
• Happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, love, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy.
• A variety of philosophical, religious, psychological and biological approaches have striven to define happiness and identify its sources.
Fundamental Of Happiness • Research has identified a number of attributes that correlate with
happiness: – relationships and social interaction,– extraversion, – marital status, – employment,– health, – Democratic– freedom, – optimism, – religious involvement– income and – proximity to other happy people.
Effect of Unhappiness to Health
• Bronchial asthma – an illness in which a pro nounced secretion of
bronchial fluids causes a swelling of the smooth-muscle tissue of the large air passage ways (bronchi).
• Tension headaches. – Produced by sympathetic-mediated contractions of
muscles of the forehead, eyes, neck, and jaw. – Tension usually builds as the parasympathetic inhibi
tion of muscular contraction gives way to sympathetic drive, increasing the state of muscular contraction.

• Migraine headaches. – Unlike a tension headache, which is produced by
nervous tension in the facial muscles, a migraine headache is a vascula

Effect of Unhappiness to Health
• Irritable bowel syndrome. – lBS is characterized by re peated
bouts of abdominal pain or tenderness, cramps, diarrhoea, nausea, constipation, and exces sive flatulence.
– It is often considered a result of ex cessive sympathetic neural stimulation to one or more areas of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.
