NEW PROCUREMENT ORGANIZATION

Thanks to our full order book, our platform strategy and the close cooperation between the MEYER companies and departments, it has recently been possible to conclude long-term contracts

covering multiple sites with suppliers. These allow substantial savings to be made and provide long-term security for all parties involved. To support this process, we have made an organi-sational change and appointed Klaus Lübbers as Chief Procurement Officer of the MEYER Group.

Klaus Lübbers has worked for MEYER WERFT since 2004 and was most recently responsible for the Purchasing/Materials Management division at MEYER WERFT. In addition to closer cooperation with the partner companies, the shipyards’ purchasing and logistics departments will also harmonise and optimise their processes, thus enabling an ERP system to be used across all sites in the future. This will bring about further improvements in our collabo-ration with partner companies.

A clear sign of the closer integration of the shipyards is the awarding of a multi-site “Partner des Jahres” (Partner of the Year) title for the first time. Having awarded the “Partner des Jahres” title in Papenburg for the last ten years and in Warnemünde for the last two years, we will now name our suppliers of the year in Turku.

Cooperation across multiple sites is enabling us to develop and build a plat-form with our customer Carnival for the first time. In addition to the contracts for AIDA and Costa, the contracts for P&O and Carnival have now also been signed. We will build a minimum of seven ships for Carnival and also manu-facture seven standardised engine rooms in Warnemünde. This will generate synergies in materials procurement, engineering and production, both for our partner companies and also for the shipyards.

In addition to the Carnival contracts, we have also reached an agreement with our long-standing partner RCI for the new ICON-class ships.

“We are looking forward to working our way through our order book jointly with our long-term partners. Together, we have managed to cope with even the tough-est challenges, such as the fire on board S. 694 in Papenburg. Our strategic partner companies in the shipbuilding sector value the continuity, security and long-term nature of their collaboration with the MEYER Group. These values are also the key to our mutual success in the long term,” said Klaus Lübbers.

With effect from 1 Januar 2017, Klaus Lübbers was appointed as a Chief Procurement Officer of the MEYER Group.

A new production hall will be built at NEPTUN WERFT in 2017 which will be specially designed to accommodate the construction of floating engine room units for cruise ships originating in Papenburg and Turku.

The MEYER Group will build 21 cruise ships by 2024, for which NEPTUN WERFT is constructing these turnkey, fully equipped engine room units. The shipyard is taking over as prime

contractor in the construction of the floating engine room units (FERU) and is positioning itself for the future.

The hall will be 140 metres long (with an option to extend) and 60 metres wide with a crane hook height of 45 metres, making it larger in size than the existing production halls at the Warnemünde site. It is expected to be ready for operation in 2018. Total investment is in the double-digit million range.

NEPTUN WERFT will refine its production processes to achieve series benefits when building the engine room units. “We need to increase our productivity by at least 25% in order to meet our target of delivering four engine room units a year. Overall, the construction of these four units equates to the building of 12 river cruise ships a year,” said managing director Raimon Strunck. A team of NEPTUN WERFT employees and external experts started planning the new hall at the beginning of the year. The first milestone was reached in September this year with the submission of documentation required for planning permission, meaning authorisation for the construction of hall 8a will be forthcoming at the beginning of 2017.

The areas between the new hall and the quayside and also the quayside itself will be adapted in line with requirements during construction work on the new hall. This will involve increasing the load bearing capacity and the quality of the surface finish on transportation routes. An adjustment to the lowering device is also planned so that the large units can be lowered into the water safely.

EXTENSION TO HALL 6

Hall 6 will be extended by 25 metres. In a kind of recess this extension will later on provide space for the ‘nose’ of the ship (foreship) which will slide in via a rail system. The excavation works are cur-rently under way in the dock. Thanks to this exten-sion it will be possible to move the ship backwards inside of hall 6.

Therefore, the floating components (1st and 2nd building sections) need to leave the construction dock before the current ship

is undocked. The floating components are then returned to the dock where they are connected with other blocks (3rd building section) to form a complete ship.

With the aim of creating even more efficient processes, the existing construction strategy will change starting with the Quantum 4 new build. A large floating component (140 m) is manu-factured behind a complete ship. This is the first building section. After the first building section is completed, it is moved to the fitting-out quay.

This is different from the existing construction method in that the complete ship is moved for-ward within hall 6 in the direction of the dock gate. The second building section is therefore produced in front of the ship.

This floating component forms a complete fore-ship incl. bow. Together with the first building section and the third building section it forms the newbuild.

Under the current strategy, two floating components (each 120 m long) are produced in hall 6 behind the ship which is being delivered.

INVESTMENTS REQUIRED FOR IMPLEMENTING THE NEW BUILDING STRATEGY

NEW CONSTRUCTION STRATEGYFROM TWO FLOATING COMPONENTS TO ONE

LENGTHENING OF HALL 4

Hall 4 will be lengthened by 100 m so that a pro-duction line for blocks can be set up there. Two blocks will be produced per week, each in a total of five cycles. Ground strengthening measures are currently under way. This estension will make the hall the same length as hall 5.

At the beginning of 2016, the Corporate Purchasing Department for the MEYER Group was established at MEYER NEPTUN GmbH in Luxembourg and work began on negotiating framework agreements

for commodities that are used at multiple locations within the MEYER Group. Contracts were successfully concluded for a number of commodities, thus enabling significant cost savings to be achieved.

The key success factors for these results were and are as follows:

· Standardisation of materials· Capacity for long-term planning with the current order book· Pooling of volumes· A motivated team that works closely together

Contracts for cables, steel sheets, steel profiles, insulating materials and pipe systems were concluded, to name but a few. These results and the cooperation with our partners show us that we are on the right track with our Corporate Purchasing Department, and we will continue to focus on long-term and strategic partnerships in the field of commodities. In doing so, we would like to make a major value contribution to our cruise ships, together with our partners.

We aim to extend cooperation within the MEYER Group beyond commodity procurement. Following the organisational change made to the overall organisation with the appointment of Klaus

Lübbers as Chief Procurement Officer, there will also be organisational changes for the Corporate Purchasing Department with the aim of boosting cooperation across multiple locations and achieving shared goals. The functional areas of material group management, supplier management and value analysis will be organisationally assigned to the MEYER Group’s Corporate Purchasing Department as of 1 January. Activities will still be carried out locally at the shipyards and subsidiaries. With this move, we ensure that these crucial functions are administered across the board in the purchasing departments and make a contribution towards performance in procurement and order processing.

The objective in relation to different supplies and services is to

· develop procurement strategies · select and integrate the right suppliers according to this strategy· and evaluate suppliers and develop them, if necessary

in order to ensure we have the right partners on board to handle the current order book as competently as possible and are able to cope with future challenges.

However, this fire demonstrated how good the cooperation is between our partners and the ship-yard. Despite the major damage, ALL the partner companies concerned helped S.694 get back on track quickly and made every effort to ensure S.694 could be delivered on 27 April as planned.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to all of our partners who helped us with this mammoth task and without whose dedication and hard work it would not have been possible to deal with the aftermath of the fire in this way.

Together with several fire brigades and rescue teams from surrounding communities, MEYER WERFT’s in-house fire service managed

to bring the fire under control quickly. Fortunately no one was injured. However, significant material damage was caused after the flames spread to a number of decks: for example, 200 cabin units and abt. 32 tonnes of steel had to be replaced.

After the cause had been established and the damaged areas were again declared safe, the clean-up work got under way. The already tight schedule for delivery was disrupted due to the blaze.

MAJOR FIRE AT MEYER WERFTA devastating fire broke out on board S.694 “Norwegian Joy” on 8 October 2016. The blaze was caused by incorrect welding work on a balcony.

A well trained fire brigade and a close collaboration with external partners ensures safety and security.

Access to the shipyard in Papenburg at gate 3.

Only the main contractor with MEYER WERFT may register its company’s employees and those of its subcontractors for work at the shipyard. This is done using a digital form which

must be emailed to the shipyard’s employee registration depart-ment 48 hours before work begins.

This form is also used for deregistration and for extending individual employee ID cards. A checklist will be provided for individual employees to ensure a smooth deregistration process.

The new registration form and further information can be found on the MEYER WERFT website at www.meyerwerft.de/suppliers.

To make the registration and deregistration process easier for our partner companies in future and to reduce possible waiting times at gate 3 of the shipyard, this process has been optimised with effect from 1 March 2017.

advantages for suppliers and for the MEYER Group (product group negotiations, bundling of quantities by suppliers, process cost reductions, direct transmission of orders, etc.). With the continuous inclusion of more product groups, it has been possible to achieve significant increases in the number of orders processed via the platform. At present 5,000 orders per year are executed via the e-procurement system, allowing substantial

savings to be made in terms of process costs. To further accelerate this very positive trend, we are planning to introduce the procurement solution at other associated companies of the MEYER Group and also for additional product groups. Intensive discussions about the expansion have already taken place. The aim is for as many C-parts procurement transactions as possible to be made via our e-procurement system.

Growth in number of orders via Internet-based catalogue procurement.

The e-procurement solution by JCatalog, which was introduced in 2013, is our tool for optimising the procurement of C-parts

(e.g. tools and office materials). This Internet-based solution enables users to select items in a product catalogue determined beforehand by the technical and procurement departments and to place orders directly with suppliers. The stream-lined procurement process delivers significant

In 2015, this was the German Red Cross project “Integration through education” which supports adolescent and adult refugees. Our first dona-

tion campaign was a resounding success, and so, in 2016, we again appealed to our partners to give donations instead of gifts. Our chosen charity on this occasion was Helping Hands e.V. from the Emsland district of Lower Saxony, an organisation that regularly transports essential goods to Romania to help people in need.

The donation campaign once again proved to be a great success. Hansi Brake, the chairman of Helping Hands e.V., was overwhelmed by the amount donated to the organisation by MEYER WERFT’s partners. He expressed his sincere thanks to the shipyard for this support. We are delighted to pass on his thanks to all our partners and, of course, add our own thank you to everyone involved.

GIVE A DONATION INSTEAD OF A GIFT

For many years, it was a tradition for suppliers to give us little gifts at Christmas. However, in 2015, we decided for the first time to ask our partner companies to support a charitable organisation instead of giving presents.

MEYER TURKU delivered the Megastar LNG (liquefied natural gas) ferry to Tallink on 24 January 2017.

Megastar entered service on 29 January and is the most advanced ferry operator in the Baltic Sea. Not only is the vessel

powered by environmentally-friendly LNG, it also has a distinctive hull shape which produces sub-stantial fuel savings during the ship’s operation.

Thanks to Megastar, the route between Finland and Estonia is now the most modern in the region. At Tallink, we have researched what our customers want from a next-generation ferry.

The shipping company worked with MEYER TURKU on a fresh and functional design for the ship, and the new ferry is the product of great team work.

Megastar is 212 metres long, accommodates 2,800 passengers and travels at a speed of 27 knots. On board are seven different restaurants and cafés, several pubs and bars, a children’s play area and 2,800 square metres of shops spread over two decks.

With two car decks and wider vehicle access, the higher standard of the ship also benefits passengers travelling by car.

Along with its new design, the luxury liner offers passengers maximum comfort and a range of special features. Around 75%

of the cabins are outside cabins, most of which have their own balcony. Dream Cruises and the 1,700-strong crew also provide passengers with an exceptionally high level of service.

With a gross tonnage of 151,300, the new ships for Dream Cruises will accommodate around 4,500 passengers in 1,674 cabins. The ships are 335 metres long, 39.7 meters wide and can reach speeds of more than 23 knots. The new ship has been designed for the rapidly expanding Chinese cruise market.

Following the handover in Bremerhaven, the Genting Dream will set sail for stunning destinations in the Asia-Pacific region, where she will offer cruises of two, five and seven nights. Sailing from Hong Kong, the ship will cruise through spectacular regions in Vietnam and China.

The Genting Dream (yard number S.711) is a lead ship development that makes first-time use of innovative components funded with innovation state aid from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the Federal State of Lower Saxony.

Lately the yard delivered the Norwegian Joy to Norwegian Cruise Line, the second ship from Papenburg tailored to the Chinese market.

MEYER WERFT handed over the new cruise ship Genting Dream to Asian

cruise operator Dream Cruises in Bremerhaven on 12 October 2016.
