SummerTime returns June 1st!
Holy Nativity SummerTime is a
wonderful time of worship, food,
and fellowship. What started
three years ago on a whim has
become part of the Holy Nativity
"tradition!" We gather Wednes-
days at 6pm for Evening Prayer
worship from throughout the
Anglican Communion, enjoy a
themed "pot luck" dinner to-
gether after worship, then finish the evening with fellowship
for adults and “supervised playtime” for the kids.
Summer doesn't take a break with Holy Nativity
SummerTime. It just moves forward 30 minutes. So mark
your calendars now, June 1st through the last Wednesday
before school starts, and plan on joining us for SummerTime
at 6pm.
Watch weekly bulletins and newsletters for the food theme
and what to bring. Hint for first week: our traditional Sum-
merTime kick-off meal of spaghetti and all the trim-
mings. Bring meat sauce (yes, Ragu counts!) and
"Episcopal beverages." Noodles, bread, and salad pro-
vided.
Hard to believe, but another SummerTime is upon us! See
you June 1st at 6pm.
By the way, bring a friend so they can experience the Holy
Nativity hospitality!
ACOLYTE
FESTIVAL
IN AUGUST!
Acolytes and parents are
asked to “Save The Date”
August 19th and 20th for the
first-in-a-long-time Acolyte
Festival at Christ Church
Cathedral (our diocesan
cathedral) in Mobile. We’ll
spend the night Friday night
at Camp Beckwith and have some pre-festival fun
for acolytes and parents!
On Saturday, we will begin the day with
registration at 8:30 am, Eucharist at 10:00 am
with the dedication of acolytes, lunch, and
afternoon workshops. Learn why we do what we
do, learn how to use a thurible, learn about the
Cathedral, compete in a trivia contest led by
Bishop Russell, learn how to set the Table, and
much more.
Please go to the Youth and Young Adults
Ministry diocesan webpage to register for both
the Festival and Beckwith: register.cgcyouth.org
We’ll have a parents meeting to go over the
details of the weekend several Sundays prior to
the festival weekend.

Adult Christian Education: Father Tom
Here we are finished up another education year and spring term, adjourned for summer and looking forward to
an exciting autumn 2016. I'm not throwing in the towel for the summer though. Adult Sunday School will con-
tinue as last year, every Sunday morning 9:15 to about 10:15, in Mary Stuart Poole Library (down the yellow
brick road to the double doors). Topic, subject, will vary time to time depending on what folks want to discuss,
but I plan to be there every Sunday for whoever wants to come, one or many. No registration or commitment,
just come, wander in.
Tuesday morning Bible Seminar, on the other hand, final session May 31 and we'll see what seems to develop
for the fall term. Been on this track since 2009 and folks may like to do something different, or even have a
sabbatical. Stay tuned.
As clergy-person overseeing all adult Christian education, I encourage anyone who has not experienced EfM
to consider it. Education for Ministry is a lay program of theological education locally sponsored by the
School of Theology, University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee. Linda and I took EfM 25 or 30 years ago,
and I learned more about the Bible, theology, church history in EfM than I ever did in seminary. It meets lo-
cally once a week through the school year, conveniently Wednesday evenings after our parish Eucharist, and is
the basis for solid grounding in the life of Christ. Highly recommended.

Did you enjoy having the children lead the 10:30 worship service on Mother’s Day? I think they did a great
job and they really seemed to be comfortable and to enjoy it. I am so thankful that Holy Nativity offers our
children opportunities for church participation and for developing confidence, poise, and good manners in a
nurturing, non-threatening environment.
Our Big News in Children’s Ministry is that we want to resume using the Godly Play curriculum at HNEC.
Florencia Pereira, Liz Ward, and Anna Eberhard have attended the first of three training sessions and they
loved the program. We want to introduce (or remind) you of this Montessori “I Wonder” approach to teaching
and learning, especially as applied to deeper spiritual concepts. Please SAVE THE DATE Wednesday, July
27, to gather in Battin Hall after SummerTime Evening Prayer to hear about this program… and we want to
hear your thoughts and responses. Everyone is invited, but I certainly want our parents, both mothers and fa-
thers, to attend. Aren’t we glad that we allow our children to wonder?

Happening #53 February 3-5, 2017
Hosted
by Holy Nativity
Happening is a spiritual formation weekend presented BY teenagers
FOR teenagers with the help of clergy and lay adult leadership. Hap-
pening seeks to bring young people to a fuller personal knowledge of
and relationship with Jesus, and to a deeper level of commitment and
apostleship. During the Happening weekend, there are activities de-
signed for fun and Christian community building among participants in-
cluding: talks given by teenage staff and clergy, games, music, prayer,
and unique worship experiences. Holy Nativity will be transformed
over the weekend into a sacred space just for this event. It is an honor
for us to host this event next year and your help is needed. On the next
page, you’ll find a list of parish responsibilities. Please prayerfully con-
sider how you can help whether you have teenagers or not. If you’d like
to volunteer, please call the Church office.
