What is happening with the MVs?

Melaka trip for Batch 32 Saturday Trainees, Sat 12/1/19 By Chen Poh Leng 22 of us inclusive of 3 trainers headed down south last Saturday. Batches 30 (Sep 2017), 32 & one person from 33 attended. Shaukani was our guide. Much of the morning was spent in the History Museum before we went up the hill for the church ruins. After that we descended the hill and took a nice pic in front of Porta De Santiago. After lunch, we walked to Harmony Street and visited a number of places of worship. As usual, some were distracted with items sold at the shops along the way. The trip ended with a bit of free and easy time where some spent more time at the places of worship and some enjoyed the refreshing and delicious cendol and shopping. We departed Melaka with good memories and are thankful for an incident free smooth outing.

Melaka trip for Batch 33 Tuesday Trainees, Tue 15/1/19 16 trainees from Batch 33, 1 Japanese trainee and trainer Rama Manickavasagan made a trip to Melaka on Tuesday 15 January. They were guided by Shaukani.

Graduation of Batch 30, Sat 19/1/19 By Chen Poh Leng 18 people registered for Batch 30 and they started

training in September 2017. 8 made it to the

finishing line! Congratulations to the graduates!

Only 5 could attend their graduation – Angela, Siti,

Nancy, Adib and Janet (not in the photo).

43 people came for lunch. Delicious nasi dagang

with ikan tongkol and cucumber salad and rose

syrup drinks was sponsored by JMM. MVs brought

along food such as a pie, sushi rolls, cakes,

cookies, mandarin oranges, persimmons etc....

Awards Presentation, Sat 19/1/19 To add to the joyous occasion of graduation, President Karen Loh presented JMM Awards to Jegatheesan Velupillay and Yee Chun Wah as a testament to their excellence of character, leadership qualities and commitment to the Museum Volunteer group. Eric Lim was also recognised for his outstanding service as a Museum Volunteer - unfortunately he could not attend.

Two interesting historical movies are coming soon to our cinemas.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi The story of Rani Lakshmibai, one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and her resistance to the British Raj. Release date: 25/1/19

The Gandhi Murder The Gandhi Murder is a conspiracy theory period movie based on true events, that led to the eventual assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. The movie demonstrates a violent India, at the backdrop of a non- violent Gandhi, and hard-line fanatic mind-sets beginning to grow roots in an India divided on the basis of religion. The feature is a story of three police officers in different parts of India, who, well aware of the intelligence that Gandhi's life in under threat, must take key decisions that would eventually either save the Mahatma, or the country. Release date: 31/1/19
