The music video we are planning to make is a mixture of performance and conceptual footage. The concept for the video is based on the film ‘They Live’ (1988) by John Carpenter and performance shots by ‘Quad Damage’ local heavy metal band. For conceptual shots we are planning to follow the plot of the movie in which we were inspired by the film’s social commentary on consumerism really spoke to us and we thought it would be fitting for our music video. What we are planning to create for our conceptual side of the music video is a take on an average person’s life but shown as a mindless consumer. How we are planning to do this is by dressing up a number of people as zombies to portray this idea with statements printed on their t-shirts such as ‘obey, designer, this costs a lot of money’ etc. to show how our capitalist society is run. Being that one of the band members is in our group gave us a major advantage as we knew exactly who were we targeting but we also did some research on who would listen to heavy metal/dubstep through looking at different forums and blogs like http://www.dubstepforum.com and http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/forum we found this style of music is predominantly listened by the young generations roughly varying from ages 12-25. We also wanted to look at the social classes of this music following and saw a pattern of mostly lower middle class. What we need: Camera & Memory card Tripod Macintosh with Final Cut Pro and After Effects Musical equipment e.g. Microphone, guitar, bass guitar, drums, amplifier, speakers Make-up Paper Stapler Printer Sunglasses Marker Cardboard box Filming locations:
