They were to have complete trust in Jesus. They were to have no fear of those who would threaten their lives. They were to stand strong before the divisions that might come. God, who loved them so much that he counted the hairs on their heads, would not abandon them. Matthew’s purpose in emphasizing this care in times of trial comes out the situation of his community. God’s Word for this Week First Reading: Jeremiah 20: 10-13 Second Reading: Romans 5:12-15 Gospel: Matthew 10:26-33

Scripture Focus

Today’s Gospel deals with persecution and how the disciples were to respond. Many people had rejected the Good News announced by Jesus, and they were rejecting his followers and throwing them out of the synagogues. Through the Gospel, he reminds them that Jesus will be with them through the Spirit as he promised.

Life Focus

1. Describe a time in your life when you were afraid and God seemed far away. What helped you to overcome your fear?

2. When you have allowed someone or something to control you or prevent you from speaking the truth? How did you feel about it afterward?

3. We ask our children to “say no to drugs” and encourage them not to give into peer pressure. Describe a time when you were swayed by what your peers would say about you.

4. Relate a time when you found it difficult to heed God’s command “…do not be afraid of anything.”

5. Describe a time when you were “anxious” about an event and it turned out that there was nothing to be concerned about. Diocese of Cleveland St. Barnabas Church, Northfield Ohio

Sister Catherine Singbush C.S.J. Sister Catherine is recuperating from a minor stroke a few months ago. She is slowing coming around. She will be leaving Sudbury to live at Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse in North Bay. To contact her: 2025 Main St. W. North, Bay, ON P1B 2X6

BISHOP MARCEL DAMPHOUSSE, MSGR BRIAN AND THE CHRIST THE KING 100TH ANNIVERSSARY COMMITTEE Thank everyone who attended and participated in the Corpus Christi procession on June 18. Braving the rain with prayer and song your outward display of love and reverence for Our Lord and for Eucharist demonstrated to the people of Greater Sudbury what it truly means to be Catholic today. This 'homecoming' of local parishes to their 'mother church', Christ the King, and the return of Christ the King to it's roots at St. Anne Des Pins brought extra meaning to a year of centennial recognition. Special thanks to those who shared their talents assisting with the barbecue, the celebration and the procession.

Prayer Greeting The people of ALL NATIONS CHURCH have sent notice that they remembered our community in prayer. Such and ecumenical gesture is a sign of the work of the Holy Spirit. Let us remember them in our prayers too. (I sent the following letting to them on our behalf.) Dear friends in Christ at All Nations, I gratefully received your note of prayer support for our community. What a wonderful expression of communion that we have with each other in the Lord Jesus. Our communion is not yet perfect or full but still what a joy to know you serve in a spirit of oneness with us. A notice of prayer communion was placed in our Sunday newsletter. Peace in the Lord We love and serve On behalf of the community of St. Patrick Catholic Community
