HOMER This charming little town is known for its halibut fishing and for

having quite an artistic flair. In the heart of Homer, find boutiques that offer locally

SITKA When in Sitka, you must look for sea otters. The area’s most unique

creature is a huge part of the history of this region. Sea otters were near

extinction at the hands of Russian fur hunters in the early-1800s, as fur was the

first important commodity exported from Alaska, before gold or oil. This gentle

creature was nearly extinct during the sea otter trade, and even today they’re rare.
