The most Extreme Classroom on the Planet MISSION In 2018 three explorers will attempt to summit Mount Everest, the highest mountain on earth with the peak 8848 metres above sea level. Their reason is to create the biggest and most extreme classroom on the planet – involving ONE MILLION STUDENTS worldwide. Through EDUCATION the team will create unique and inspiring online lesson plans and an interactive route map allowing students to follow the explorers throughout the journey whilst at the same time connecting all schools together. An ENVIRONMENTAL Global Experiment will collect clean air data from around the world on one map of the earth. This will highlight areas with poor air quality and the data collected can then be used to influence political views on climate change. Visual Skype COMMUNICATION will link the explorers in real time from the mountain directly into the classrooms worldwide. Daily interactive social media updates will allow students to converse with each other and exchange ideas with the explorers. Finally, the One Million Voices DOCUMENTARY featuring students will be shown on route through the valleys, monasteries, schools and villages that line the route to Everest in the highest cinema on earth as part of a major 8848 documentaries.

MISSION In 2018 three explorers will attempt to summit Mount Everest, the highest mountain on earth with the peak 8848 metres above sea level.

Finally, the One Million Voices DOCUMENTARY featuring students will be

shown on route through the valleys, monasteries, schools and villages that line the route to Everest in the highest cinema on earth as part of a major

8848 documentaries.

EDUCATION

At the very core of the expedition is the Global Education Programme. We truly believe as explorers we have a responsibility and a commitment to inspire young minds to think differently about the planet. Our partners SKYPE / MICROSOFT IN THE CLASSROOM and LONELY PLANET have come together to create an interactive learning platform which contains online lesson plans to unite the students and schools together. Each school will register on the dedicated 8848 expedition platform supported by MICROSOFT EDUCATION; there they will submit their own message on what climate change means to them. These valuable statements from students worldwide will be projected in temporary cinema pop-up’s through the valleys of the Himalayas and onto Everest itself as part of the documentary ONE MILLION VOICES.

ENVIRONMENTAL

The explorers and students worldwide will take part in one global lesson to measure the clean air within their home, their school, and their own countries. This data will then be displayed by DRAYSON TECHNOLOGIES on an online map of the world. By inviting one million students to participate in this global initiative, we will deliver the first independent study on clean air from all corners of the planet. This will be a significant step towards educating people of influence who can drive environmental change to protect our planet for future generations.

2 FILMS

ONE MILLION VOICES will be a short documentary film involving the schools, the explorers and

supporting celebrities. It is designed to not only give people a voice but to also outline the reasons why we are embarking on this extreme expedition. The film will be shown in a make shift cinema and played in the capital city of Kathmandu – along the lush green lower valleys of the Khumbu region leading into schools, monasteries and villages that line the route to Everest.

_____________________._____________________

The 8848 major full length documentary will be filmed by the explorers throughout the journey as an

honest approach to give a true insight into a modern day expedition team preparing for one of the toughest challenges on earth. We understand the importance of combining educational, environmental and communication projects, connecting 8848 schools worldwide, capturing ONE MILLION VOICES and sharing their messages through the cinema experience on Everest – the largest classroom on the planet. Our film crew will document the spirt of the journey.

COMMUNICATION

The expedition team aim to use Mount Everest and the approach through the Khumbu region as a Live Classroom - connecting directly from the very extremes via Skype into classrooms around the world. Linking LIVE from the monasteries, LIVE from remote Nepalese schools and LIVE from the final ascent of Mount Everest. Immersing students in the culture of the Himalayas and allowing them to experience alongside the expedition team the day to day challenges. We are partnering with Inmarsat to provide the latest in communication equipment and expertise to enhance the extreme learning experience.

GLOBAL MAPPING

A 3D web view of Mount Everest will be embedded within the 8848 platform allowing students to plot the route and track the team in real time. Each school will receive a Jigsaw online map of the world created by LONELY PLANET together with fact sheets to help students to explore and add their own ideas within the 8848 expedition. A ‘Geoform’ will be distributed to schools, allowing them to sign up/plot their school on a map – as they learn more about the planet, exploration and cultural difference, highlighting the areas within the Himalayas as the team make their way through the valleys to Everest Base Camp to prepare for the ascent. EVERYONE has a place within this incredible expedition.
