Did you decorate and have your classmates sign your “senior cords” in your final year of high school? Did you proudly wear your letter sweater or varsity jacket? Did you celebrate when your favorite basketball team won the “County Keg” from their cross- county rival? Remember all of this and more at the Carnegie Museum! The Changing Face of Education will also be on display in this exhibit. Did you practice your spelling on a chalkboard or a keyboard? Did you solve math problems with a pencil and paper, a slide rule, or a calculator? Did you learn to type on a manual typewriter, an electric model, or a computer? Join us as we explore how much has changed in education … and how much has stayed the same. Schools & Schooling in Montgomery County will be on display throughout 2017. Schools & Schooling in Montgomery County includes a look back at all of the schools that existed in our county, as well as an exploration of how education has changed over the years. Did you decorate and have your classmates sign your “senior cords” in your final year of high school? Did you proudly wear your letter sweater or varsity jacket? Did you celebrate when your favorite basketball team won the “County Keg” from their cross-county rival? Remember all of this and more at the Carnegie Museum!

The Changing Face of Education will also be on display in this exhibit. Did you practice your spelling on a chalkboard or a keyboard? Did you solve math problems with a pencil and paper, a slide rule, or a calculator? Did you learn to type on a manual typewriter, an electric model, or a computer? Join us as we explore how much has changed in education … and how much has stayed the same.

Schools & Schooling in Montgomery County will be on display throughout 2017. We will have yearbooks, class pictures, and artifacts from the school buildings on display, but are always interested in more. Do you have an item from your school days that you’d like to loan or donate? Let us know!

At 7:00 p.m., immediately following the opening reception will be the Annual Meeting of the Membership of the Friends of the Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County. presented at the Annual Meeting.

2016 Annual Report The Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County had another busy, successful year in 2016. We welcomed a record-breaking 6,407 visitors, our highest annual attendance so far, and hosted many exciting programs, exhibits, and events.

Our popular Pi Days (expanded to include a Saturday each for math and physics) and Brain Day events in conjunction with Wabash College once again drew good crowds to the museum, as did the downtown Crawfordsville Art Walk. Our exciting Robotics Day, featuring demonstrations from Crawfordsville and North Montgomery high school and middle school robotics teams, along with the Montgomery County Robotics Challenge for upper elementary students, were both rousing successes, while our second annual Maker Day program (held in conjunction with the Lew Wallace Study & Museum) brought numerous families to the museum for hands-on demonstrations. Adding on to our science programming, we explored bio-engineering in Building with Biology and hosted a poster session with Wabash College students taking Adventures in Physics, while our popular summer programming kept kids busy with Museum Camp, Spanish Camp, and our eighth annual Summer at the Museum. Finally, we wrapped up the year with double the holiday fun by adding Elf Christmas to our highly popular Photos with Santa event.

Several exhibits were also on display during 2016. While our annual exhibit Celebrating Centennials was showcased all year long, it was joined by the Southmont Schools Art Show in the spring, the national traveling exhibit Roll, Drop, Bounce in the summer, and the Crawfordsville Schools Art Extravaganza in the fall. And if this wasn’t enough to see, Indiana Historical Society helped us celebrate Indiana’s bicentennial by displaying three of their traveling exhibits in the first part of the year— From Pencils to Pixels: Hoosier Cartoons & Comics; The Hoosier Centennial: A Look Back at the 1916 Celebration; and The Great War: From Ration Lines to the Front Line.

In addition to all of this, the Carnegie Museum also welcomed many elementary school field trips, scout groups, local organizations, and community group meetings, as well as visitors from all over the United States and the world. It was a great year for us, and we can’t wait to do it all again in 2017!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you to all of the Friends of the Carnegie Museum, all of our supporters, and all of the volunteers who make the Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County the success that it is!

Thank you to the following companies for their in-kind contributions to our programs: Arni’s Restaurant, County Market, Crawfordsville/Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, Johnny Provolone’s Pizza, Kroger (East), Kroger (South), Penguin Random House, and Wal-Mart.

Thank you to all of our financial supporters, the donors and lenders of artifacts, our community partners, and our visitors. The Carnegie Museum is a public, community-based museum, and you make our success possible.

ASTC Passport Program!

The Carnegie Museum will once again be a participant in the Association of Science & Technology Centers (ASTC) Passport Program in 2017. As part of this program, our members are able to gain free admission to more than 300 participating science centers and museums around the world (outside a 90-mile radius around Crawfordsville and your residence). You can download a list of participating programs at the ASTC website: astc.org/passport/

Remember to take your membership card with you when you visit these centers; proof of membership and personal identification is required to take advantage of the program.

Thank you for being a Friend!

The Carnegie Museum has asked Crawfordsville Middle School’s after-school club ATEAM to help create

part of the “Schools & Schooling in Montgomery County” exhibit. The ATEAM will be focusing on school

lunches and conveyance methods as they explore “The Changing Face of Education”.

Will you share your memories about your school lunches and how you got to school? The ATEAM will be

collecting this information as part of a memory book for patrons to browse through when visiting. Please feel

free to add more paper if you wish! Thank you so much for your help.
