Welcome, New Members! We are thankful the following joined Wesley on
October 21, 2018. The next New Member Class will
take place Sundays, December 9 and 16 with the
class joining on Sunday, December 16. Please call
the church office, 912-232-0191 to sign up.
Our Annual Christmas Offering This year our annual Christmas Offering will support the Tiny House Project and Mission on the Move
Children’s Home in Tapachula, Mexico. Checks may be made out to Wesley Monumental, earmarked
“Christmas Offering.”
Tiny Houses for Homeless Veterans—Wesley is committed to two houses and a clinic space with construc-
tion in 2019.
Mission on the Move Children’s Home in Tapachula, Mexico—Wesley will provide a Christmas present for
every child in the orphanage.
Children in Area Hospitals Please bring new or gently used stuffed animals and dolls for children in the Savannah
hospitals. Also needed are volunteers to deliver these items on Christmas morning. Boxes are
located just inside all church doors; please bring items by December 18.
Urban Hope If you want to adopt an Urban Hope child to select gifts from that child's wish list, please stop by the Fellow-
ship Hall tree and take home an ornament. Please give your mailing address, so the child can write you a
thank-you note. Questions? Nelle, 912-234-9245. Refugee Family Assistance Kroger Gift Cards are our current need—not clothes. Please see Nelle to contribute or share ideas to help. Family Promise Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped with Family Promise to serve homeless parents and children
from November 25 through December 2. Please give ideas to Nelle. Upcoming Missions Meetings Upcoming meetings will be Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from noon—1:00 p.m. and Wednesday, January 9,
2019 from 6:00 p.m.—7:00 p.m. in the Oliver Hall library, room 205.
Marilyn & Wayne Black
Marilyn is a retired kindergar-
ten teacher, and Wayne is a
retired police officer who en-
joys boating and fishing. They
joined with their daughter,
Carey, and her family, and
their great joy is their grand-
children, Gavin, Fable, and Piper. They came to
Wesley with their family.
Shepherds: Barbara and Johnny Phelps
Rachel & Dr. Michael Hasselle
& children, Lucy Mac, Walker,
& Holden
Rachel and Michael both grew up
in Nelle's home church in Memphis,
and all five Hasselles and Nelle
were baptized as infants in that
church. As a child, Michael even
survived being in the first Sunday
school class Nelle taught! Michael
practices medicine with a special-
ty in oncology, and Rachel is an attorney. Lucy Mac
(kindergarten) and Walker (pre-K) attend Hancock
Day School, and Holden, age one, attends Isle of
Hope UMC Preschool.
Shepherds: Emily and Corey Jones
Children's Shepherds: Julianna and Tyler Jones
Carey & Joseph
Scwartzburt & children,
Gavin, Fable, & Piper
Amazingly, Carey worked as a
nanny for the Stubbs children
prior to her having her own
family. She is a graphic design-
er who just created Eli's Place
t-shirt designs. They came to the church through
Eli's Place, where Gavin attended, and now Fable is a
student. Gavin is in Pre-K at Heard Elementary, and
Fable is age 2. Piper was born in August. Joseph
works at SCAD in Career Services and likes kayaking,
reading, and writing.
Shepherds: Emily and Dr. Joe T Stubbs
Children's Shepherds: Eliza and Greta Stubbs
Melissa & Jim Vaughn
Melissa is a swim teacher at
the Chatham County
Aquatic Center who likes
tennis and gardening, and
Jim is an environmental
engineer who enjoys golf.
Jim also just completed the
half-marathon in Savan-
nah. They chose Wesley for its strong preaching and
traditional worship.

Christmas Presentations Mark your calendar and plan to join us for our children’s Christmas presentations. The Elemen-
tary children are working diligently to learn their lines and songs for the Nativity Pageant to be
presented on Wednesday, December 12 at 6:15 p.m. The Joyful Noise choir children will pre-
sent their Christmas Celebration program on Sunday, December 16 at 4:30 p.m. Both programs
will be in the sanctuary and everyone is welcome.
Christmas Ornament Painting On Sunday, December 2, we’ll be painting pottery ornaments in room 202 and room 303
immediately following the 11:00 service. These ornaments can be hand-painted by your
child and then they are glazed and fired by professionals. This year we have some new
designs including a star, snowman, snowflake, and wreath. The ornaments make great
Christmas presents for grandparents or other family members. Ornaments are $11 each
and come with a ribbon for hanging. No need to make a reservation, we’ll have all the
supplies ready for you, and the ornaments will be ready for pick up on December 16. Christmas Fun Day for Early Childhood Children On Saturday, December 15, the nursery will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
for Christmas Fun Day! We enjoy having the children come and spend the day with
us, and we hope all of their parents have some time to enjoy the Christmas season.
We have lots of activities planned for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. We are
providing lunch and plan to eat around noon. We’ll make ornaments, bake cookies,
play on the playground, and watch a Christmas movie. It is fine for the children to
come for the whole day or for any part of the day. To register, send an email to
[email protected] with the time they will be arriving on the 15th.
Eli’s Place Halloween Costume
Parade and Storybook Party The Eli’s Place children
had fun parading around
the Fellowship Hall in
their Halloween cos-
tumes to spooky Hallow-
een music. After the
parade, the children
visited different Hallow-
een story stations where
a parent volunteer read
a book to them and
handed out treats to
share.
Fall Festival We had beautiful weather and a great
turn out for our Fall Festival at the
Wesley Gardens Retreat Center. The
Ninja Warrior inflatable was the most
popular with children of all ages fling-
ing themselves from one big ball to the
next. Ghost rockets, pumpkin fishing,
and the slime station were the most
popular activities and everyone en-
joyed Ms. Suzanna’s taco bar and
s’mores with Mr. James.

Volunteers Needed
Additional Communion Stewards are needed to help prepare communion for our
monthly Communion Sunday services. This is a great way to serve our church from
behind-the-scenes, and training is provided. If you would like to learn more, please
contact Amelia Wells (Communion Team Leader) at 912-665-2902 or amelia.
Festival of Lessons and Carols Please join us as we celebrate the coming and
birth of our Lord at the Festival of Lessons and
Carols on Sunday, December 9 at 11:00 a.m. This
is an annual Wesley tradition that extends back
over 30 years. Children and adults will read Scrip-
tures from the King James Version of the Bible
and sing Nativity hymns accompanied by the pipe
organ and a small orchestral ensemble. The con-
gregation will join in enthusiastic singing of be-
loved carols.
In many ways, December arrives with Christmas
already here. Christmas carols are on every radio
station, Christmas movies on television, Christmas
decorations all around, and Christmas sales in every
store. Even churches are singing Christmas carols as
soon as Thanksgiving is over. The victim of this prem-
ature Christmas is the season of Advent. Ironically it
is the season of waiting, preparation, and expectation.
In a world where we have come to expect everything
now, waiting is no longer a virtue to be cultivated but
rather a flaw to be corrected.
Maybe no season of the Christian year is a more
important rebellion against the culture than Advent.
It calls us impatient people to be patient. Just think
how patience would change the world we live in. What if we were more patient with each other, more
patient with change, more patient with ourselves, more patient with college kids playing football for crying
out loud? Advent calls us to live with faith and hope, and Lord only knows we could use some more faith and
hope. But we don’t want faith and hope, we want surety. Faith and Hope call us to relinquish control, to
trust in someone we can’t see. Advent turns our eyes towards Jesus who promised he would come again, and
surely we need to keep our eyes on Jesus. Remember the words of that little gospel chorus, “Turn your eyes
upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his
glory in grace.”
Christmas is wonderful, but it is even better when we’ve had Advent. A little patience, anticipation, faith
and hope, make Christmas a true celebration not an afterthought. So make sure you carve out time to
worship at Wesley during the season of Advent, otherwise you may be tired of Christmas before it actually
gets here.

Epiphany Art Display of Angels Join us for an Epiphany Art Display of Angels on Sundays December 30, 2018, and January 6, 2019,
in Oliver Hall. If you have an angel(s) you would like to display, please give them to Carolyn Hale
Cubbedge. Also be sure to stop by Oliver Hall during the month of December to view the Parlor
Christmas Tree.

It’s been a fun couple of months in the Wesley Youth
ministry! We’ve enjoyed volunteering at the Fall Festival,
Human Foosball at Youth Group, and a great night of
Zombies vs. Humans. We are looking forward to Decem-
ber and our youth Christmas party, which is December 9. The Youth Choir led us in worship on October 28, singing
“I’m Trying to be Like Jesus,” with the Joyful Noise Choir.
The Youth Choir also sang with the Chancel Choir and
Orchestra in our special service on November 11. Praise
God for our musically gifted youth and their ability to lead
worship!
Youth Christmas Party All 6th-12th graders are encouraged to join us for the Youth Group’s annual Christmas Party on December 9,
from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Wesley Monumental. Ski Retreat We’re planning for another awesome ski trip this winter! The Ski Retreat will be February 7-10, 2019. Cost
will be $350 per person, which includes lodging, lift ticket, and ski rentals for two days of skiing.
Summer Mission Trip We will be going to Chattanooga, TN and ministering to the community with Youthworks next summer. The
dates of the trip are July 14-19, 2019. This mission trip is open to all 6th-12th graders. It will be an awesome
opportunity to serve God together!

On October 14, several youth helped serve guests
during the Progressive Dinner which was held in
celebration of Wesley’s 150th Anniversary. Here are a few of the upcoming events
that you should know about:
Children’s Music Earlier this year Dr. Les Wilkes asked all the children in
choir to write why choir is important to them. Above is
one child’s response. Thank you for encouraging and sup-
porting Wesley’s music ministry to all ages.
