Christmas Presentations Mark your calendar and plan to join us for our children’s Christmas presentations. The Elemen-

tary children are working diligently to learn their lines and songs for the Nativity Pageant to be

presented on Wednesday, December 12 at 6:15 p.m. The Joyful Noise choir children will pre-

sent their Christmas Celebration program on Sunday, December 16 at 4:30 p.m. Both programs

will be in the sanctuary and everyone is welcome.

Christmas Ornament Painting On Sunday, December 2, we’ll be painting pottery ornaments in room 202 and room 303

immediately following the 11:00 service. These ornaments can be hand-painted by your

child and then they are glazed and fired by professionals. This year we have some new

designs including a star, snowman, snowflake, and wreath. The ornaments make great

Christmas presents for grandparents or other family members. Ornaments are $11 each

and come with a ribbon for hanging. No need to make a reservation, we’ll have all the

supplies ready for you, and the ornaments will be ready for pick up on December 16. Christmas Fun Day for Early Childhood Children On Saturday, December 15, the nursery will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

for Christmas Fun Day! We enjoy having the children come and spend the day with

us, and we hope all of their parents have some time to enjoy the Christmas season.

We have lots of activities planned for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. We are

providing lunch and plan to eat around noon. We’ll make ornaments, bake cookies,

play on the playground, and watch a Christmas movie. It is fine for the children to

come for the whole day or for any part of the day. To register, send an email to

[email protected] with the time they will be arriving on the 15th.

Eli’s Place Halloween Costume

Parade and Storybook Party The Eli’s Place children

had fun parading around

the Fellowship Hall in

their Halloween cos-

tumes to spooky Hallow-

een music. After the

parade, the children

visited different Hallow-

een story stations where

a parent volunteer read

a book to them and

handed out treats to

share.

Fall Festival We had beautiful weather and a great

turn out for our Fall Festival at the

Wesley Gardens Retreat Center. The

Ninja Warrior inflatable was the most

popular with children of all ages fling-

ing themselves from one big ball to the

next. Ghost rockets, pumpkin fishing,

and the slime station were the most

popular activities and everyone en-

joyed Ms. Suzanna’s taco bar and

s’mores with Mr. James.

behind-the-scenes, and training is provided. If you would like to learn more, please

Festival of Lessons and Carols Please join us as we celebrate the coming and

birth of our Lord at the Festival of Lessons and

Carols on Sunday, December 9 at 11:00 a.m. This

is an annual Wesley tradition that extends back

over 30 years. Children and adults will read Scrip-

tures from the King James Version of the Bible

and sing Nativity hymns accompanied by the pipe

organ and a small orchestral ensemble. The con-

gregation will join in enthusiastic singing of be-

loved carols.

In many ways, December arrives with Christmas

already here. Christmas carols are on every radio

station, Christmas movies on television, Christmas

decorations all around, and Christmas sales in every

store. Even churches are singing Christmas carols as

soon as Thanksgiving is over. The victim of this prem-

ature Christmas is the season of Advent. Ironically it

is the season of waiting, preparation, and expectation.

In a world where we have come to expect everything

now, waiting is no longer a virtue to be cultivated but

rather a flaw to be corrected.

Maybe no season of the Christian year is a more

important rebellion against the culture than Advent.

It calls us impatient people to be patient. Just think

how patience would change the world we live in. What if we were more patient with each other, more

patient with change, more patient with ourselves, more patient with college kids playing football for crying

out loud? Advent calls us to live with faith and hope, and Lord only knows we could use some more faith and

hope. But we don’t want faith and hope, we want surety. Faith and Hope call us to relinquish control, to

trust in someone we can’t see. Advent turns our eyes towards Jesus who promised he would come again, and

surely we need to keep our eyes on Jesus. Remember the words of that little gospel chorus, “Turn your eyes

upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his

glory in grace.”

Christmas is wonderful, but it is even better when we’ve had Advent. A little patience, anticipation, faith

and hope, make Christmas a true celebration not an afterthought. So make sure you carve out time to

worship at Wesley during the season of Advent, otherwise you may be tired of Christmas before it actually

gets here.

Epiphany Art Display of Angels Join us for an Epiphany Art Display of Angels on Sundays December 30, 2018, and January 6, 2019,

in Oliver Hall. If you have an angel(s) you would like to display, please give them to Carolyn Hale

Cubbedge. Also be sure to stop by Oliver Hall during the month of December to view the Parlor

Christmas Tree.

It’s been a fun couple of months in the Wesley Youth

ministry! We’ve enjoyed volunteering at the Fall Festival,

Human Foosball at Youth Group, and a great night of

Zombies vs. Humans. We are looking forward to Decem-

ber and our youth Christmas party, which is December 9. The Youth Choir led us in worship on October 28, singing

“I’m Trying to be Like Jesus,” with the Joyful Noise Choir.

The Youth Choir also sang with the Chancel Choir and

Orchestra in our special service on November 11. Praise

God for our musically gifted youth and their ability to lead

worship!

Youth Christmas Party All 6th-12th graders are encouraged to join us for the Youth Group’s annual Christmas Party on December 9,

from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Wesley Monumental. Ski Retreat We’re planning for another awesome ski trip this winter! The Ski Retreat will be February 7-10, 2019. Cost

will be $350 per person, which includes lodging, lift ticket, and ski rentals for two days of skiing.

Summer Mission Trip We will be going to Chattanooga, TN and ministering to the community with Youthworks next summer. The

dates of the trip are July 14-19, 2019. This mission trip is open to all 6th-12th graders. It will be an awesome

opportunity to serve God together!

On October 14, several youth helped serve guests

during the Progressive Dinner which was held in

celebration of Wesley’s 150th Anniversary. Here are a few of the upcoming events

that you should know about:

Children’s Music Earlier this year Dr. Les Wilkes asked all the children in

choir to write why choir is important to them. Above is

one child’s response. Thank you for encouraging and sup-
